“It’s 50oC and has a humidity of 100%, less than a hundred people have been inside and it’s so deadly that even with respirators and suits of ice you can only survive for 20 minutes before your body starts to fail. It’s the nearest thing to visiting another planet – it’s going deep inside our own.
For ‘How Earth made us’ I have been lucky enough to film everywhere from tiny Pacific islands to the centre of the Sahara desert, yet nowhere could prepare me for filming in The Giant Crystal Cave – Cueva de los Cristales of Mexico.”

He should have been in marks and spencers yesterday. Bet it was hotter.
Stunning! The people look like microbes in a perfect ‘life construction’. There are just some places on this earth that humans are not meant to explore. However, if we did have the equipment to do so what would happen to the perfect ‘life construction’.
completely amazing , beautiful , will make a mental note of this to visit myself,
bye
Absolutely amazing. Although I’m glad people were able to see such beauty, it’s sad that they won’t be able to continue their growth.
A-mazing….!
deadly but beautiful….sounds like my last girlfriend.
….hooray for bad jokes.
So thats where Superman’s fortress of Solitude is?!
That place looks so unreal! Absolutely beautiful though, the natural world is amazing.
It looks pretty dangerous but there is a KFC near me that you can only survive being inside for about 12 minutes before your body starts to shut down.
That place looks amazing, I want to exploorreeee itttt.
That place looks amazing!
Chuck Norris was born there.
I saw a documentary about this, some scientists were trying to analyse the crystals to know more about past earth conditions.. and it was VERY hot..
Wow, I could almost feel the heat just reading the article! Amazing place!

The lighting and angles of the people in the photos look rather unnatural. As mentioned in the comments on the Iron Ammonite, the photos look to have been heavily photoshopped, even if they are for real.
Hey Jonathan, Nature is just Photoshop without the pointing and clicking.
Man, that is not where I would want to be .. at times I already almost passed out in the bath tub .. especially the humidity … groce … and then 50 degrees … How hot does it get in a sauna or one of those other bath houses? Just to get an idea.
The crystals are not my real focus therefor when watching and listening to a few of those clips on the internet. Nor was it that of the researchers in those clips ..
Hot and steamy man … so, it can be too much of that …
It looks cold though.
Hi Fosca, sounds poetic, but I’m not sure what it means :-S It’s certainly true that often a real scene can look like the most amazing photoshop job. When one starts playing with these things one sees the world in LAB colour and dynamic ranges become magnified in our vision (this isn’t a criticism, it’s what naturally comes from studying the colours and contrasts around us).
