Nope, after scouring the net to settle my curiosity I haven’t found a shred of information on plaiting horses’ hair for the purposes of magic. I have been a pagan all my life and in my experience the only ‘plaits’ used in rituals would be knot magic, traditionally cords, in which each knot represents an intention, or a prayer, much in the same manner as rosary beads, but I have never heard of actual plaiting. However, I am a soppy girl who loves horses and am guilty of hugging and probably plaiting many horses manes while they are stood still in a field, probably bored and peeved at me for not bringing any carrots! I say it’s horse mad girls, or yes, as in the last case, pikies! haha, someone is going to tell me off!

Ha! Ha!….just found plaits in two of our horses manes today!..got stressed out ‘cos of the “pikey- marking horses to steal” rumour…….I’m a “pagan” ish person meself [don't like this word tho']………if any “pagans” want to put plaits in my horses mane THEY ARE WELCOME! [just ask me first!]….bit worried to read that ancient followers of EPONA used to burn horses alive [and that "kings" had to f**k a white mare!.....you can't do that!...anyways we hav'nt any white mares!].Bit strange that the two horses that were plaited were both coloured animals [brown and white-Skewbalds]…..these are the only horses in the herd that would be worth anything to our irish travelling friends [ooooo!....NOT very P.C!]……still sitting in the field with a shotgun!- but i won’t shoot pagans!.Love from Ponypunk.

Well.. that’s interesting. I agree with one of the other commenters, must be hairdressers! If it’s gypsies ‘marking’ horses for when they come back, the horses wouldn’t be there to be seen, surely?

I blame it on global warming, see with the warming it is no longer possible to do crop circles as the crops don’t hold so well and it has had an adverse effect on the horses hair, where as human hair can go frizzy in hot humid conditions horses hairs plait themselves. LOL

I’ve heard of ‘knot magic’, but it usually involves tying a cord or ribbon (usually 9 – 13 inches in length,) in to nine seperate knots. Never heard of pagans using horse hair or a plaiting method. Very unusual.

apparently this is not all that happens to them…altho who knows if it’s all being done by the same people.

The incidents have ranged from sexual abuse and slashings to “odd” behaviour such as the plaiting of horses’ manes.

hmm…what’s danny radcliffe up to these days…

Well, if it is plaiting only that would happen to them … that’s not bad. We’ve had way worse things going on here, very disgusting.

But thy shall not plait someone else’s horse … white magic practisers should know about that .. otherwise they’d been spreading black vibes to the owners and possibly to the horses as well …

Maybe someone who’s still learning to plait horses’ manes and needs volunteers ..
