Asking Derren what he really wants for Christmas is a bad idea – the answer was “this”, but sadly we don’t think it’s possible. The book collection at Brown Towers would struggle to make it past half way compared to this impressive collection, and the renovation might clash with the stuffed animal theme.
Sadly the above image isn’t real. It’s a 3D generated image from the fantastic designer Oliver Charles. Olivier graduated from the Architecture School of Paris La Seine. He started to work with 3ds Max 11 years ago.
He switches between his two jobs: architect (with Armel Neouze and Jacques Gelez) and graphic artist and now he teaches 3ds Max at his old school.
To see how this stunning image was created there is a full rundown (for those interested in the nerdy bits) over at CG Society.

cant ya just get him a kindle AND a nook?
There was an entire planet that served as a library in Doctor Who. Top that!
mmmm…dribble…. that\\\’s my future house…..
Erm .. I totally don’t get why this could not be true .. this picture … nor after having sort of read (but totally not getting) that page … Don’t get why they need to work it that complicated … but that’s me … not being busy with that type of stuff at all.
Oh, it could be true but it isn’t and that’s what it is about? Ah …
Derren’s library on this picture is not really where I would want to sit down and read .. He’d probably have some people run up and down to get him the books he needs … or some little robots ..
I’ve always wanted the library that Belle gets presented with in ‘Beauty & The Beast’ or the one Professor Higgins has in the ‘My Fair Lady’ film. LOL
LC x
Lol, I love this picture, Nopke, course it could be true and there’s a few of these types of images floating around..believe myself anything that can be drawn whether by hand or other means or even thought can be made or built by hand somehow, just like this guy’s done, he’d probably build it himself if he could that’s why he’s done it and you couldn’t.., where else would most things we see or yet to see come from- if you get my jist, can’t see what’s so difficult to imagine it being real..maybe you need a certain eye or something, well just my opinion but hey i’m just a simple crafter myself and wannabe 3D’r lol, anyways back to the point, Superb picture there Phillis, nice one! ;-D xxx
I have to say it’s a bit too ugly for me. I am huge lover of old style libraries, the ones that have that leather bound old book smell with wooden units and carved interiors, the ones that look like the have arrived straight out of a Victorian novel….those are true libraries…of course though as Jess xxx already said…that library planet on Dr Who would have been amazing to land on…i could happily live there….well as long as the shadow life sucking creatures didn’t live there.
It’s a good pic but you can tell it’s not real, the books repeat and there is inconsistency in the platforms that you’d stand on to get to them, you’d need ladders for the middle bit and imagine if you fell off…aaaaaaaaarrrrghhghghgh splat.
Also think it’d get awkward towards the edge, you wouldn’t be able to get in there to get the books out.
But it’s very pretty.
