After more than 50 years of service, the ministry has shut down its UFO investigation unit, saying it could no longer justify the cost of running the service.
The ministry said it had found no evidence of a threat to Britain or proof of the existence of extra-terrestrials, despite the public sending thousands of reportings of UFOs to a ministry hotline and email address.
It said it held no opinion on the existence or otherwise of alien life, but added it had “no specific capability for identifying the nature of such sightings.”

Just when they stop investigating there will be 3 big ones come along one after the other, just like busses. You mark my words!
Well that’s the snow for you….sorry was this not a snow story? Lol I’m sure if aliens did exist they wouldn’t continue to abduct the stupidist people on the planet and get them to pass messages on. If they can achive intersteller flight they can work out who best to make contact with.
is this because of the rumoured official announcement that alien life exists and that there are 56 different species already on earth ?
add us to the mix and it’s 57 just like heinz.
no need to have an the unit now if they have all been identified.
Or maybe they have found them so now there is no more need to further investigate.
it was probably a waste of cash.
does anyone believe that they (the british government) are going to actually inform us as to what is really going on out there. all we ever get is the usual weather ballon (sure they must have got sick of saying this by now) or meteors etc, etc, etc.
heres a good documentary i viewed a while ago about british ufos:

enjoy and be open minded people
Didn’t this happen to Mulder all the time?
That’s it; when I move out, I’m going to a country with a better government than ours, Why shut that down? Why not shut down some of the nationalized TV channels? They’re useless.
Of course aliens exist…have you guys not been watching Dr Who recently they’ve been turning up all the time over in Cardiff! (and no i do not mean the locals!!)
obviously the task has just been taken up by a third party group hired by the government similar to that wacky torchwood. Or Dawkins had a word with them and proved beyond reasonable doubt we are alone.
@ JunkDuster So ‘Men in Black’ was true!
Did seem like a bit of a waste of money. Yeah, I’m sure there must be intelligent life out there somewhere – it’s a big universe – but if they’re not living in this solar system, then they’re thousands of light years away. So unless they’re a species that is capable of living for a thousand years, they’re not going to be able to reach earth in a space ship in order to abduct random people (which, as an intelligent being able to fly thousands of light years in less than one life time, you have to admit, you wouldn’t do.)
has no one ever considered that IF aliens did exist and come to our planet, that they would be taking our natural resources, and that if the government had got some evidence of them we couldn’t do anything anyway so people need to stop worrying. and besides if the aliens came by space ship i’m sure they would have been breeding the entire time, and growing their food etc. and just think now they can put all that money towards advancing science, or they will just blow it all on the next big scandal.
so there shutting down the uiu after 50ty years…well really though what have they to show for the last 50ty years a bunch of phone recordings and a lot of emails hell one uiu guy could have done all that at home in the eveing after his real job lol…i belive without a reasonable doubt dawkins is all alone
I dont know if there is aliens out there or not but i do think..an alien would need to land his ufo outside the uiu building and need to greet them by sayin hi i am alien
hopefully now with all that saved money theyll bring out some more nationalized TV channels
Makes sense, UFOs NEVER land in the UK anyway. According to every UFO movie I have ever seen they always crash/land/make contact with the US…. so we are safe here!
