“Before patting yourself on the back for resisting that cookie or kicking yourself for giving in to temptation, look around. A new University of Georgia study has revealed that self-control — or the lack thereof — is contagious.
In a just-published series of studies involving hundreds of volunteers, researchers have found that watching or even thinking about someone with good self-control makes others more likely exert self-control. The researchers found that the opposite holds, too, so that people with bad self-control influence others negatively. The effect is so powerful, in fact, that seeing the name of someone with good or bad self-control flashing on a screen for just 10 milliseconds changed the behavior of volunteers.”

Thank god another scientific fact to hide behind
I have changed my diet patterns heavily the last 6 weeks the irony is even though I only take in 2000 calories nothing changes in my weight or size, except for my apatite for sugar (chocolate hmmm….) and hungry feeling.
Though I must say I feel a lot better –probably auto-suggestion but it keeps me from falling back
And yet, abeo you have written you name at the top and have given us a picture of what appears to be cheesecake
Msg from Abeo:
OMG Abeo!!!!! OREO CHEESECAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
u ate that piece didnt u?! omg i wants…
yeah clearly this research is right… u are a BAD NEGATIVE influence to my self-control
*goes to buy some oreos to make cheesecake*
Msg from Abeo: nomnomnomnomnom
after moving to the land of fat, sugar & salt–not to mention beer–i could absolutely believe it!!!
So does that mean that a guy who cheats, can blame his mates – if they also cheat? :p
Sounds a bit like an excuse to me
Probably works especially for younger people like that. I’ve seen people throwing away all self control when being with someone with self control as well .. quite often … lots of relationships based on that.
The self control – lack of self control inside one person is perhaps even more interesting. Studying it upclose, the why’s etc.
Haha, It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact to take in consideration so that you can make better decisions.
Would it be better just to stop studying human behaviour because it might offer people excuses for bad behaviour?
