Wow. what I wouldn’t give to have a nose about in those boxes, and I would LOVE to read any paperwork lying about. Barbarism doesn’t even come close to describing what must have happened behind those beautiful doors. Th beginnings of the DSM ……….

Freaky Deaky indeedy. I used to work in one when I was a teenager (20 yrs ago) it was called ‘Coldeast’…..not the warmest, friendliest of names. They used to be weird places, people that were healthy got institutionalised and ended up never being able to fit into ‘normal’ society – included single mothers! It all ends up feeling very normal though!

Loved to wander around Cane Hill Asylum when it was standing. RIP CANE HILL 1882 – 2009. Shame they demolished it

I’ve got a bit of an obsession with old buildings – castles, churches, cottages, that sort of thing – and some of the derelict asylums around the country (there seem to be loads of them,) are quite beautiful. There’s one just outside Maidstone where I live. One of my friends is a photographer, and went in to take some pictures. It’s strange, but pictures of derelict buildings, still with furniture lying around and plants creeping in through the windows, always seem really interesting.

Those photo’s are awesome. i’m very interested in old, abandoned buildings and have explored a couple myself, including an old psych hospital; but unfortunately it was no where as near as interesting as this one, and was stripped and had no atmosphere. You couldn’t even imagine people living or working there. I’d love to see someplace like this, somewhere like Severalls or Fairmile.

Ooh quick, call the ‘Most Haunted’ team, bound to be full of ‘restless spirits’.. Am I the only one whose blood starts to boil every time I see a trailer for those dolts? I’ve started cursing at the screen whenever they appear and yet there are more and more TV shows about ‘ghost’ hunters and ‘mediums’ every bloody week. Gaaaah!
