WARNING: The following truly bizarre ritual is quite disturbing to watch.
Sanal Edamaruku speaks about a shocking and dangerous ritual in Bihar. A godman tramples on infants to bless them. Parents bring their children for this blessing. The parliament member from this area, a minister and a top priest defend the ritual in the name of religion and tradition. Two days after this TV interview, the godman was arrested and this ritual ended.

I do believe the the warning above the video is a little off. I’m fourteen and have never had a child (thankfully), yet I also find this disturbing. Actually, I think most people will find this horrific.

My first reaction when watching the news lady speak of what they do was “WHAT THE FUCK”.

Being a Pakistani, I have seen how some of the traditions have been passed onto the Pakistani culture too and it is something I detest very much in our culture when I see things that are clearly pure made up superstitious traditions.

Completely outrageous. If this man did this to my baby I swear I would get a knife and stab him. Many times. Maybe if I claim it is within my religious beliefs to stab someone who is harming my child I won’t get prosecuted for it.

Usually I’m all for leaving people to their religious traditions and rituals, but this is pure garbage. More than that, it’s the worst thing that anyone could do; to harm a child in the name of something that is supposed to be sacred and righteous. It’s just an insult to the gods that you believe in – thinking that so-called perfect beings would consider pain to be a blessing! I’ve got no right to say whether or not those gods exist or not, but if they do, and this is what they have deemed to be right, then f*ck them, and send me to hell!
I wonder how many necks, arms, legs, ribs this moron has broken. I find it hard to believe that a sane parent would believe that this would cure their child. I don’t care how sick my children were I wouldn’t take them to some crazy man to stand on. Babies don’t have many bones, most of what seems to be bones is just cartilage. If he stood on the chest of a small adult he would probably kill them.
What is more worrying are the possible pschological effects of having a huge man standing on you !

Alan, the spine is developed and you know that the neck is the most sensitive and weak spot of a human being. And your larynx is also “just cartilage” but trust me you do not want either the muscles or tendons to stretch too much which could lead to suffocation or immense pain because of pressure on the nerves.
That tiny neck is easy to damage just shift a single segment and you can suffocate or trap a nerve.
Psychologically it will not do too much because they are to small but physically this is very dangerous especially on the neck are.

Hinduism has some of the sickest traditions of the world. I wonder sometimes how this Nation maintains a hunky dory facade on the outside and is so evil inside. Female infanticides, Dowry burnings, SATI and the social stratification of Dalits are some of the most inhumane and violent and shocking practices also.
Islam and Pakistan does not allow such sadistic and sick traditions, and neither does Christanity.
