Every now and again, we are reminded that our worls isn’t necessarily how we perceive it – yet it is only how we perceive it. Our ideas of colours, textures etc are all based on the position of the observer. And if the observer is a powerful electron microscope which can get ‘inside’, then our world is vastly different from our experiences so far. Wonderful video, ta.
A dead butterfly (doubt a live one will stay still for long, of course it would be dead from natural causes) and a magnifying glass on my birthday wish list. That was good!
As I have a morbid phobia of butterflies I really didn’t know whether I could watch this or not, but funnily enough once I’d got over myself wincing at the butterfly itself, the close-up stuff wasn’t too bad. In fact, it was fascinating. Just wish it could have been any other insect with colours & wings…..
Ah, I see the end result all day long on walls and such around me (they make them here), but this is quite nice .. the zooming in .. How they made this picture .. that’s what shold have come with this vid .. would have made it probably even more interesting for quite a few.
Very cool – would be even more impressive if the insect wasn’t misidentified – it’s a MOTH. Admittedly a lovely day flying one but a Urania moth non the less!
@spiderabc1 think you will find the ‘butterfly’ was alive at the very end you see the antenae moving. Amazing video tho, love looking at things like this.
Scanning Electron Microscopy FTW

So when will this be in point and shot cameras?
No….That’s not real….That has to be CGI!!!
Stunning

Flippin ‘eck. That was amazing, just when you think it can’t get any closer!

Reminds me of the Douglas Adams comment about the garden being amazing enough without having to believe there are fairies at the bottom of it.
This is a pretty amazing video: http://www.flixxy.com/water-drop.htm
