What is madness I'd say? What is genius? I wouldn't call artistoteless et all geniuses. Lots they call nowadays geniuses were not really such a genius at all. All can come to their type of thoughts quite easy if they would have been that down and out with their self (body self). In the end it's not genius that copes so well with the world. We all have the genius inside, but most often youlll be more the genius when you are not using that genius inside.
Bi polar can be triggered by everyone. Severe depression on one side of the brain will trigger it more easily. People, young people, that focus that extreme in your childhood on their studies lack something for sure, are depressed, not in balance. When pushing it to the max from their mind after depression gets triggered (their emotional side) it goes in max. overdrive, wont stop.

Being crazy doesn't make you a genius but being a genius does make you crazy.
I've always known this - but then I'm both !

Stop calling it 'bipolar'. It's manic depression - does what it says on the tin :P

It's strange, but true. Look at all the geniuses in history who have had (or shown evidence of,) bipolar disorder; Van Gogh (obviously,) Beethoven, Charles Dickens, Isaac Newton, Florence Nightingale, Edgar Allan Poe...and, more recently, Stephen Fry.

Hmmm but couldn't the fact that they had no mental health issues b4 hint that the problems they had in later life were the result of the stress of being a high achiever rather than mental health issues being a factor that helped them do well in studies?

The NHS have issued a statement about this study... seems there are too many inconsistencies and things in the article that weren't in the study. Typical bad journalism. When are they going to start reporting the REALITIES of BP?

Personally I think studies into lthings like this are a waste of time, we should be looking for better treatment options instead. As the saying amongst the BP community goes, for every Stephen Fry there's a 100 without any kind of talent at all.

Shame though! Many people with BP aren't geniuses and often don't show any creative or academic talent at all. Think many would like to, however!
