Thanks Joseph, though if I'm understanding this correctly the new limestone forms and settles in the sea itself. It would be naturally protected from acid rain with a couple of thousand feet of ocean above it maybe? The co2 that we have released was already in the Earth anyway maybe we could slow the rise long enough to give us time to get off our dependancy on fossil fuels.

That would need a LOT of super salad dressing though.

And I could be just talking out of my arse. :-)

Reply to Secretgeek. i like your idea, but when the slightly acidic rain starts to disolve it, the co2 will be freed up and agian polluting the planet, good for a very short scale plan (which out goverment likes for some idiotic reason) but long term, no, sorry.

Just a thought but would this be suitable for massive scale carbon capture? Locking up our emissions in limestone sounds like an interesting idea.

Crab, acc. to this so highly respected and honoured theory .. the whole world will be sinking into sea in a while .. no need to worry about Venice .. worry about your own location. Or simply ignore it and check how long you will need to live here ... They have boats enough in Venice .. they wont drown ..

Some must love venice so these researchers will be loved to for their way of reasoning .. I'd say .. time enough to evacuate and rebuild somewhere else. Bu I dont live there, nor have a special thing with Venice. Do like old building though ..

The sea was here once too, not that long ago .. right where I sit now .. people did something back then to prevend that from happening again .. (well . as long as systems of the sea remain the way they are ..)

Give us soms dressing too,

'Heroic Salad Dressing - The saviour of cities, and now the main attraction at your dinner table!'

Serving suggestion - Place a teaspoon of dressing in to a glass of ice cold water to form decorative, limestone pearls.
