“Researchers using a diamond paste to polish a slice of meteorite stumbled onto something remarkable: crystals in the rock that are harder than diamonds.
A closer look with an array of instruments revealed two totally new kinds of naturally occurring carbon, which are harder than the diamonds formed inside the Earth.
“The discovery was accidental but we were sure that looking in these meteorites would lead to new findings on the carbon system,” said Tristan Ferroir of the Universite de Lyon in France. ”

just another thing for women to want …. Please destroy it …. My bank balance cannot take any more ….
These crystals may indeed be harder than diamonds, but are they harder than Chuck Norris? I doubt it!
Did I just stumble into sci-fi? I want a phazor!
I don’t know about you guys, but to me, this sounds awfully like the White Point Star diamond that the Time Lords used to find their way to Earth.
The end of time has come!!!!……………………………………………..Just kidding.
Check out “moissanite”, also first discovered in meteorites, is almost as hard and is more brilliant than diamonds.
The bonus is that it’s just a fraction of the cost of a diamond to buy one!
*She’ll never know…*
Yes Jerry,… She will know since we tell women everyday about the “fake diamonds”.
We actually have testers that detect moissanite since they conduct electricity where diamonds do not, except blue diamonds.
Also the “she’ll never know” probably is not the best way to start a trusting relationship.
Phil
Yeah – “Phil THE DIAMOND DEALER”?
Hand in your Man card!
Of course theres nothing wrong wth selling moissanite as long as it’s disclosed. Just took the idea of misleading a loved one a little disturbing as I thought that it should be disclosed to “the one your with” also.
You see, I have to tell ladies almost daily that the “stone” in their ring (that they already own) is not a real diamond like they thought. Most of the time it is from a relationship that did not work out as they share how much of a jerk he was. The comment I hear most often is ” It figures it’s not real, neither was he!” (or something close to that)
And you do not have the authority over me to request that I “Hand in your Man card!” I will continue to wear it on my lapel for all to see!!
That was kinda funny though.
Phil “The Pawnbroker”
So are you “Douglas” or “Phil”, Mr. Open and Honest!?
Faux pas, eh?
I agree with Jerry. The gun to our heads to purchased artificially inflated priced diamonds is not fair, and how did we let it get to this state?
How long do you think this tradition would last if guys started demanding women purchase us an equivalent diamond trinket – watch, ring…?
Statistically, there are about fifty percent of males from messy divorces that wish they had purchased moissanite in the first place.
IT’S THE T H O U G H T THAT COUNTS!
Both,..
Phil Douglas Webb, I forgot that you cannot see my email.
We let it get to this state due to successful adertising by DeBeers. I have not read where there was a gun to the head in any of the ads or even the retailers. Just an effective advertising campaign by them and the non ability of the purchasers of diamonds to link together and “hold out” on purchasing forcing a lower price.
Guess what,… before I got into the Pawn Business I proposed to my girlfriend and did not even have a ring to offer. She said yes and then a few months later we bought a used wedding ring from a pawnshop and this year will make 25 years of marriage. It’s the ones that don’t force you to “buy a certain size diamond or else” that make life easier to live. Run away from those that demand.
