Shardcore sez, “For the last two years I’ve been stamping UV skulls on the Queen’s face on all the money that I get out of the ATM. There’s now thousands of pounds worth floating around the UK economy, visible only to bees and humans with a blacklight. Given the events in the world’s economy over the last couple of years, it seems all the more (im)pertinent.”
UK shopkeepers often keep a UV light by the till to check notes to ensure they’re not counterfeit.

Best thing that can be said about this?
“Meh.”
I just love urban art! This is genious!
If Gone In 60 Seconds hasn’t motivated me to get one this has.
When they first started putting metal strips in notes ‘someone’ used to deliberately remove them (quite easy at the time, small tear at top of note and it ‘allegedly’ just slid out; but not ‘seen’ it for ages so it may be harder now). Never saw a shopkeeper notice…they always went by the watermark in those days.
I was a horrible teenager…but far as I know it is illegal to deface money so it obviously wasn’t me doing it
But has he ever got money out of an ATM that contained one he’s already stamped?
I bet the Queen won’t be too pleased with that..
then again.. considering her face touched a LOT of butt cheeks over the time..
I like to write ‘burn me’ and ‘I own you’ or variations of these on every note I own if there is a pen handy
i like to write “i grew hemp!” in a word balloon next to george washington on the U.S. $1 bill.
What an interesting idea
I will keep my sonic screwdriver at hand to look for some of these
I have a UV blacklight thingy in my room. It actually comes in way more useful than you might think. I’ll have to start checking for these.
UV lites are good fer spotting counterfeits too…
Not as cool as the FSM money stamp:

In pasta we trust! RAmen.
Back in the eighties I took to signing every note that passed through my hands just to see how long it took one to come back to me (17 months if you care).
Like _JonBaxter_ I too know ‘someone’ who pulled the metal strip out of ‘her’ notes, don’t even remember why, but it was easy & you’re right – noone ever noticed. Can’t do it on the new ones though, ‘she’ just tried
Does this mean that under UV light the queen now looks like “Ghost Rider” or those aliens from the sci-fi movie “They Live” who can only be detected by wearing special sunglasses? That makes me smile!
Amazing idea!!
Shop keepers never notice anything, do they? They don’t notice when the queen has been turned in to a zombie, they don’t notice when you pull the metal strip off, they don’t even notice when you hand them a bit of blank paper instead of a £20 note…
May start marking my own notes, and see how long one takes to come back to me.
P.s. Hippo Bathday to DB. Let the mid-life crisis begin! (Assuming it hasn’t already
)
Was my 17th two days ago. Got a DVD of the brilliant ‘Crooked House’.
And I forgot to change my name back from ‘Heroic Dressing’. Well done, Jess…
