It makes a lot of sense if you start by ignoring a lot of stereotypes - e.g. that picture you always see with the crouching ape slowly becoming more upright and simultaneously more "human"; and the stereotype whereby we descended "from apes" where those apes look like they do today - we didn't descend from today's apes! Chimpanzees have been evolving every bit as busily as we have, and in so doing they seem to have come up with the hunching thing, as have many other apes. Also the species homo erectus was around ten times as long as we have been, and looked and walked exactly like "modern" humans, except the brain case ends where we instinctively still draw it. If you want to find the missing link, it's us!

I found this Talk a while back on TED.com

Evidence suggests that we were Bipedal.

The question asked is why?

I think this women may be onto somthing, she has some very hard evidence i find hard to argue you with.

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/elaine_morgan_says_we_evolved_from_aquatic_apes.html

Her name is Elaine Morgan and she is a marine biologist i think.
