Lovelies.
After the unwelcoming place near Buxton, it’s a joy to have stayed in the Malmaison on the Liverpool docks (‘malmaison’ = ‘bad house’, still don’t get that) where the staff could not be any more accommodating and delightful. I am assured by a friend who knows someone who knows someone that my particular room was once occupied by Amy Winehouse, which is very exciting. Have searched the room for any trace, but housekeeping have presumably done an excellent job in the meantime. Oh dear, we couldn’t be any less rock and roll as a touring troupe.
Liverpool has been immense fun. It’s a tricky room to play: the beautiful Empire auditorium is set far away from the stage, and sucks up most of the sound of the audience, so it takes a bit of acclimatising to realise that the audience are actually enjoying it. The tiny Buxton Opera House threw back much more noise at me. Having said that, the roar at the end of both shows here was quite something, and, if I may be so fat-headed, the spontaneous 2000-strong standing ovations looked just amazing from my perspective on the stage. So thank you Liverpool, you were spectacular. Some really touching gifts and letters from people, and a warmth and loveliness at stage door which are hard to come by anywhere else in the country. (Having said that, the first night did bring one pissed guy up on stage in the first half, but for the brief time I kept him up there he was pretty funny).
I’ve noted that people are very kindly tweeting in the interval – please do your best not to give anything away that you’ve seen in the first half though, if you don’t mind. It’s lovely to meet so many of my Twitter followers after the show. On that subject, I hope you won’t mind me saying that it’s very hard to avoid offending a handful of Twitter followers to whom I can’t give the individual attention and dialogue they seem to need. It does take the fun out of using Twitter. I’d love to continue using it, as I do enjoy it most of the time, and I hope those few will take a deep breath and use Twitter in the casual spirit it’s best enjoyed in. Thank you all for the enthusiastic tweets after the shows – they make lovely reading and are very much appreciated. In particular I’m very grateful that you’re all good enough not to tweet any spoilers: the show is so much better when you don’t know what’s coming.
Tomorrow we’re off to Bristol, which feels like my spiritual home. To play the Hippodrome, where I queued so many nights as a student, alone, to watch touring opera companies… it’s such a delight. I shall be touring old haunts tomorrow and enjoying myself immensely.
I await my gorgeous crew for soup and booze, and then it’s an early start. I’ve just had a pizza that I should have probably avoided. And my ludicrously fancy suite has a bathtub in the front room – imagine that! To think that Amy probably sat in it, enjoying a glass of wine and watching telly.
Getting very tired. Ner-night, trust you’re all splendid.
x

I couldn’t believe the size of the queue at the door tonight! Had an excellent evening with friends who had not seen the show before so can now chat happily away with them without spoiling it!! have managed to keep tight lipped since last may!!
Have a great time in Bristol!
Sarah x
Sounds like you had fun
Can’t wait to see your next tour (if you have one)
And do you know when Enigma will be on Television?
Derren, you star!
thanks for an amazing night. been wanting to come and see you since, well, forever, but only just got round to it….i do apologise
anyway, the show was fantastic, enjoyed every minute of it and have already been hunting out tickets for when you’re back in Liverpool! (however, ebay is a touch on the expensive side so if you wish to donate a free ticket id be everso grateful! ha!)
so kind of you to stay and meet us fans after; the queue was huge, you must have been there for hours! was lovely to meet you, and was touched that you genuinely wanted to know if the show from the upper circle was good n even more touched by the look of shock/concern when told id recently had surgery! you are a love! believe me, nothing was stopping me from being there tonight! love ya xx
PS. If i were you, id make the most of that bath….and post pics on the blog
love ya!

Derren,
Thank you so much for putting on an amazing performance. It was an honour and a privilege to share a stage with you after I caught the Frisbee! I still can’t believe my luck.
The show itself was just immense and mind-boggling, but pure amazing mouth-opening stuff! It’s definitely hands-down your best yet. The ending left me literally speechless, it was THAT good.
Thanks again for putting up with my mindless nonsense chatter at the stage door afterwards also.
You’re such an inspiration and I couldn’t be more happy to have met you at last.

Derren, awesome show. Long time listener, first time caller here. I haven\’t seen you live.. until Liverpool! You were a bus ride away, and a true inspiration. Seriously man, your show was awesome – and to think I”ve been following you on the small screen for so long?
Congratulations on being a good looking, intelligent, and extremely talented mother f*cker. Darwin, I hate you right now.
How do you find the energy man? I feel so drained sometimes I might aswell have M.E.
Kindest Regards,
Simon ‘Needs some office space style help’ MacFadyen
Well said Derren!
Glad you enjoyed Liverpool! It is a wonderfully friendly city!
I also have to agree with you about the Twitter followers that ask too much of you all of the time. I have seen so many people requesting texts from you and it is a few times a day everyday. it angers me so I can understand how you feel about it, I hope now you have said something they will stop.
We all should be glad Derren is on Twitter, I feel it is highly unfair and immature of these torturing individulas that spoil it for Derren, I would hate for him to leave because you all cant stop with the requests etc. Derren works hard and doesnt need to worry about upsettting people that crave his individual attention, you are a fan of his, yes, but he doesnt owe you everything you ask of him.
Derren, in my view you are one of those people who can be “fat-headed”, and that includes Richard Dawkins!
I was at the show on Tuesday. It was the first time I’d ever seen your live show and never expected it to last so long – which I was very happy about (so used to watching the cut down tv versions I suppose). I will definitely be coming to your next tour and will encourage people to come as well as its a completely different experience to watching it on the telly. (though I would like it if you to did more tv – you seem to have cut back quite a bit which is a shame).
Hope the rest of the tour goes well.
Sounds like you enjoyed the hospitality and the people of Liverpool very much, Derren. And I want to wish you a very safe journey when you leave for Bristol today.
With re Twitter, I think most of us on there realise how difficult it is for you to read all the tweets you get, let alone answer them.
Take care,
LC x
Your show was truly AMAZING last night, Derren! I enjoyed every minute of it!
& I can’t believe that I actually got to meet you and give you a hug afterwards! SO LUCKY. Thank you so much! Hope you had a fun time too!
A huge thank you from the North West! See you again in Blackpool in May.
A huge thank you from the North West!
too bad to hear that a certain handful of people are ruining the Twitter-fun
There is a “block-button” though, if some are a bit too obsessive/scary for your liking.
You thoroughly deserved the standing ovation at the end last night. I LOVED the show; it had me completely speechless at times. It went so quickly though!
It sounds like you might have read the card I made, I really hope you liked it, Happy belated birthday.
And, ah, it was great to meet you :’) Thanks for the hug and for signing my book, ‘Zoeyy with a double Y’
Really really fun night, me and my friends really enjoyed it, thank you.
Zoeyy xxx
I was lucky enough to attend the first night in Liverpool and had a fantastic time. Unbelievable show and has been hard to describe to friends and family just how good it was without using details. Utterly brilliant.
Thanks Derren for a wonderful night and for meeting all the fans at the Stage Door after for pictures/signing things. Really appreciated, come back to Liverpool again soon.
Saw the show in liverpool last night, Fantastic especially at the end (didnt see that coming)
are you going to be doing more live shows in the north west cos i would like to give you some of my hard earned cash to see another show (OMG you have messed with my mind and i didnt know)
thanks Derren keep up the good work
An amazing performance by yourself and your crew…..your one amazing guy. Some kind words in your message to us all who attended…you were the star of the evening.
Fantastic show, and it is so good that a lot of people are tweeting about it, Without spoilers.
Please dont give up tweeting, it is interesting getting the blog posts, but its so nice to get the personal observations, from yourself now and then.
Thank you again for a mindbending show and evening of great enjoyment at Torquay.
Irene X
Thanks for a fantastic show last night – us Northerners are an appreciative bunch!! Would love to see the show again to try and work it all out but that would shatter the illusion. Lots of love xx
Derren,..
Glad to hear your having such a great time with your shows,…
Let us know when you plan on coming to America won’t you?
Or even something planned for the Tele (TV) here in the USA. I have my DVR set to record anything “Derren Brown” for many months now, nothing.
Knowing that I would be staying in Amys room would make me think back to see who might be trying to frame me for something.
Aw, don’t give up Twitter, Derren!
You were made for it – your Tweets are always so funny! Not on Twitter myself, but I love reading them.
Still very excited about seeing Enigma – see all my previous comments for full details. My fingers are tired…(19 days – Eeeek!
)
P.s. A bathtub in the front room? Isn’t that a little…inconvenient? Never forget to lock the door…
Amazing show last night. Second time of seeing it! Loved it!
ooohhh im sorry you feel pressure from twitter to reply to people personally…i am guilty of that, asking for a tweet on my birthday, im sorry!!!!! i wont do it again, id hate for you to leave twitter
glad the shoes are still going really well, and also glad the hotel is a lot more welcoming.
x
Every time I read posts like this I realize how much I want to go to your live shows. I hope I can do it some day, but it’s not easy, I’m from Chile and traveling to England is very very expensive
.
Cheers!
Hi Derren, my good lady and I were at the first Liverpool show and had a fantastic time. Didn’t know that the guy that got up on stage was drunk, just thought he was a ‘character!’ anyway, he certainly made it hard for you, so it was even more impressive when you got the answer bang on! The three of us that came to the show from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine went away very pleased, but unable to work out how you did any of it! Although we all cowered in our seats at the mere mention of frisbees, we did wonder if scientists made particularaly bad subjects? good luck with the rest of the tour and it was fantastic to finally see you live!
Derren – the show was great. I was there with half a dozen or more of my fellow Merseyside Skeptics Society types and had a blast trying to figure out the methodolgy behind some of the effect (no spoilers, don’t worry). It’s the first time I’ve seen mentalism, magic, hypnotism etc up close, and I wasn’t disappointed. Had I known you’d stick around near the stage door after, I’d have said a proper hello from all of us, as well as thanking you for plugging the homeopathy overdose/10:23 campaign we ran.
Cheers, and have a great rest-of-the-tour

I was at the show last night, it was bloody marvelous! I’ve seen three of your other live shows over the years, but my boyfriend, who accompanied me last night, was a Live Derren Virgin (as it were). Both of us were utterly blown away in equal measure & couldn’t stop discussing possible explanations night long afterward (although we’re only mere mortals so it was all futile). Brilliant night, thank you so much. x
Derren, saw the show on Tuesday and loved every minute of it. I’m still completely confused at how you did all that stuff.
I’ll definately be looking out for the next tour.
From the lady in the turquoise top who you got on stage!
P.S glad you like Liverpool.
£815??
Hope he didnt get mugged on the way home!
I DEMAND MORE TWITER INTERACTION!!
I don’t actually use Twitter, though. Does that make a difference?
Funniest typo on the blog…
@Dmaco ‘Glad the shoes are still going really well…’
How long are the shows?
Derren, thank you so much for such a marvelous show and for coming to Liverpool. They always say if you walk into a pub on your own, in Liverpool, you’ll come out with 15 ‘bezzie’ mates at closing time!
It was wonderful to meet you on Stage (I was one of your Frisbee catchee’s) although I am sorry that I put a bit of a stone in your shoe with one of my names… I promise the next time I see you (Please come back to Liverpool!!) I’ll stay put in my seat! However, it was an amazing experience and made your show all the more memorable for me being part of it! I still have no idea how you could have done it – any of it! But thank you!
Thanks once again for putting so much time, effort, and thought into your shows, and for making me laugh! Brilliant, handsome, and funny… sigh
You annoyingly spectacular man,
good luck with the rest of the tour. Much love x
Came to watch your show on the Tuesday and was totally blown away. Have been loosely studying numourous books on psychology, NLP and Hypnosis for a short while and love how in such a small period I have learned so much. However I find it astonishing how anyone can reach the level you have accomplished. I went from thinking I knew a little more about how you performed, to thinking I know nothing.
Talked about the show for hours afterwards even the next day on our car journey back to Inverness. You truly are a devilishly clever man that some how manages to entertain and delight whilst pissing me off at the same time. I know everyone wil enjoy the show as much as I did. Oh and your Stewie impression was spot
The show was incredible, I went to see you on Tuesday and was left speechless for the whole of the next day. Caused problems in school! Then my psychology teacher bet me I couldn’t find out what school of Psychology you support – I am just commenting to thank you for your time on Wednesday before the show and to let you know I got the full £50 despite the fact you don’t follow any particular school. Thank you very much, I am now £50 closer to going to Kenya!
Thank you so much for the baffling show! Hope you enjoy the rest of your tour xx
Derren, I never expect or require a reply on Twitter. It’s much more exciting to meet you in person.
I shall be making my way over to Bristol sometime tomorrow afternoon and shall try and refrain from shouting “Oi Derren!” should I see you wandering around your old haunts.,… then again, I’m not making any promises.
See you tomorrow and Saturday!
lots of love
Rhian
I’m so glad you’re enjoying yourself!
I am so upset I haven’t been to see one of your shows yet. I will definitely make it! I hope you continue to have fun! x
Lovelies .. hm, that is akward, I read instantly love lies .. not being a native brit .. Oh well, can be true too. Ofcourse, we are lovely. No doubt about that. (we never say that in Holland .. can’t stop seeing that therefor, brits use more words like that than we do .. it must be the neantherthaler genes in us .. an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth ..)
I can’t spoil people’s expectations .. haven’t seen a show, so don’t worry. Not that I would spoil, although if you are pretty enthusiastic about it you could slip something out by accident I can imagine. Hm, must be pretty depressive for some, not being able to talk about it with those who did not go yet.
Twitter .. tweets .. well, we can not all have the same opinion about those issues, can we. Wont get into that.
Casual? Ah ..
You were utterly amazing in liverpool!! im still speechless when i try to tell my friends how good you were!! Cant wait until your next up in liverpool
thanks for a brilliant evening!!! xxx
Hi Derren
Caught your show last night and Im still totally awestruck, You are the most amazing and talented man Ive ever met, You had the whole audience mesmerised, I wish I could have caught one of the frisbee’s ??
I would like to thank you for your patience at the stage door signing all those autograph\’s and for allowing me to hug you.
Safe journey to Bristol and thanx again you are Amazing
Sandie with an ie not a Y, lol thanx for correcting that on my programme
Derren – An amazing show that both my wife and I enjoyed. Please keep tweeting, we love following you. I work in Hypnotherapy and you are a true artist and I love trying unsuccessfully to work out what you are doing. Thanks for all your hard work
Derren, the liverpool show was amazing, it was my first time seeing one of your shows, im only 15 so i havnt been to many shows, but i can already say this will be by far one of the best
It really was immense, i dont know how you do it
YOU RULE !
Great show in Liverpool last night Derren – I enjoyed watching it just as much as when I saw Enigma last year
it was great to meet you and get my DB self portrait (won in a Blog comp) signed. Fab!
Can’t wait to see the show again in Manchester in July
Watched Derren on Tuesday night and it was brilliant. I’ve long been a fan (there’s no one around like he) Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope people don’t spoil (why do so??!!). Respect Derren (but you’re wrong about Shawshank)
: )
Great show. I went on the 2nd Liverpool night and loved every second. Well Done Derren!

I am indeed splendid. Thanks for asking, Mr B. x
Seen you in Liverpool, Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Derren. Me and my boyfriend came to see you in Liverpool on Tuesday. It was a fantastic show – mind boggling. That was the 3rd time we have seen you and all 3 have been amazing. We went on holiday to Las Vegas a couple of years ago and went to see Gerry McCambridge, becuase we enjoyed your show so much. I was actually a part of his show and we told him we were fans of yours – he said to say Hi, so Hi!! On a seperate note, are you free next December to perform at our wedding???
Great show last night Derren, wel all jumped straight up for the standing ovation, seriosly entertaining! Just hope I catch a frisbee next time! Good luck 4 the rest of the tour
Yes please don’t stop tweeting, you and Stephen Fry are the only people i follow.
LOL soup and booze… is that in the same receptacle? ‘Cause i don’t think a bloody mary is supposed to be hot.
A bath in the living room seems far too public although i’m rather liking the imagery… (although not the Amy Winehouse bit)
Cat XXX
I’m sure it’s Rotherham’s turn for a couple of shows! Just swing by on the way to Bristol, we won’t mind…….
I can see Amy Winehouse in a tub with JUST wine and TV…………Ooh,look a squadron of bacon sarnies!
Soup and ale can’t go down rate well……… Enjoy it anyway!
I’m definately sure it’s Rotherhams turn…………..
Went to see 3rd March Liverpool show, was incredible (but i knew it would be) I was well + truly ***SPOILER REMOVED***. My boyfriend (who bumped into the enigmatic Mr Brown the day before + tried to take him for a coffee, lol) thoroughly enjoyed as well. We will be coming again v.v.soon hopefully
xx
Mr Brown,
Didn’t anyone ever tell you that scousers are the most friendly people in the world!! (after they’ve robbed your wallet and the wheel trims off your car!!) Brilliant show, third live tour i’ve seen now and they get better every time…. even my boyfriend who i had to drag along, who has an answer for everything was left speechless( thank you!!) and is now a massive fan! Loved every minute of it. You are a genius.. Good Luck with the rest of the tour. Looking forward to seeing you again in the future…
***SPOILER REMOVED***
10 out of 10 for the scouse accent imitation. Elle xx
Went to Liverpool show 3rd March. Was lucky enough to be picked for a couple of tricks in first half. Had amazing experience and could then totally chill and enjoy awesome second half/finale. Excellent – been a fan for years and introduced loads of pople to being a fan (including daughter Steph who got an autograph after show)!! PS – she wants a job on your crew!
Derren you are quite simply amazing, i went to see you in Liverpool on Wednesday night which i very nearly couldn’t make! and i went as a 100% sceptic and was unwilling to trust anything you did as i just do not understand how you do it, it seems to impossible! but obviously as it was live i couldn’t not believe what you were doing was acccurate and to be honest and not to be rude, when i was sat next to my friend the amount of times i said this is weird, he is weird, this is a massive headf*** was pretty much unreal, but you did a fantastic job and i am so glad you ***SPOILER REMOVED***, i really hope i get to see your show again live, you were simply amazing.. if not baffling
.
Derren….Hello from a fellow Piscean..saw the show in Buxton on Monday night…thank you so much again for making my birthday so memorable!! I have seen your last three live shows( two of them at the Empire) but Enigma was a first for my husband and you completely blew him away-he can’t wait for your next show!
(loved the flat cap).
As for me…meeting you at the stage door was the icing on my (birthday) cake
Happy belated birthday wishes to you.
Jo xx
PS..Love Malmaison hotels too.
My son visited your show at the Empire on Tuesday 2 March. I’d like thank you for absolutely making his night by picking him to go on stage with you.***SPOILER REMOVED***. He’s been on cloud nine ever since. **SPOILER REMOVED***. Unfortunately I was not there but have enjoyed hearing all about it. His girlfriend has filled in the gaps assome parts are a bit hazy to him.
Once again thank you.
Kind regards
Rosemary
Stop posting ***SPOILERS*** people! Poor Abeo must be working flat out!
wwaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!
too excited! saw Enigma in Liverpool last wed (3rd) and was absolutely blown away. however there was the slight problem of recently having surgery which caused a bit of disruption to enjoyment so i convinced myself to hunt down another ticket. and guess what??!!! Hey Derren,
Came to your show on the 2nd at Liverpool and it was just pure brillance, seriously it was ACE. Havn’t stopped talking about it for weeks and trying to figure out how the hell you do it !
I know they always say you shouldnt meet your idols but when i spoke to you for a split second after your show i was taken back by how lovely you were! Spesh since i made a boob out of myself, i was nervous because i didnt know what to say to you, but you caught me off guard and spoke to me first! And yes, i forgot how i spelt my name when you asked me, haha which i apologise for !
Again just incredible, you made my night with your Stewie Griffin impression,, top stuff haha
Can’t wait for more shows, hopefully if i meet you again i’ll remember how to spell!

Hi there
malmaison = bad house or house of sin! The first Malmaison hotel was housed in what had been an old sailors hostel in Leith, Edinburgh… overlooking the docks. Sailors were partial to a little (or a lot of) vice and sin.. hence the name
