I was under the impression that most of the members of the Flat Earth Society were only actually in it for the intellectual challenge of being able to try and form a coherent argument in defence of something that is absurd and obviously wrong. Sure there will be a few members who do fervently believe that the earth isn’t a sphere, but most of them are just there for the fun of the debate.

Ships disappear over the horizon (and the earth appears curved from space) because light bends in a gravitational field (as Einstein proved). All observable phenomenon are, in fact, completely consistent with a flat (yet round like a pizza pie) earth (north pole in the center, south pole is the circumference).
