“An animal hypnotist claims to be the country’s first ‘rabbit whisperer’, treating pets’ behavioural problems.
Cliff Penrose, 60, uses a special technique to put rabbits into a trance – leaving them flat on their backs with their legs in the air.
He is able to hypnotise then animals by applying pressure and massaging certain parts of the body, including the belly which relaxes them.
Mr Penrose then ‘bows’ to the rabbit by lowering his head so it does not feel threatened before shutting its eyelids leaving it in a trance.
He regularly hypnotises rabbits before they go to the vet so they can be treated and examined more easily.
But he also treats ‘problem’ rabbits with behavioural issues and can make them less aggressive after putting them in a trance.
The grandfather-of-two from St Austell, Cornwall, said the hypnotised rabbits often live longer as a result of being de-stressed.
He said: ‘You can tell when a rabbit is under because his back legs completely relax. The creature is unable to move, in a trance like state, sometimes for up to ten minutes.’”

Wow!!dat is so kwl…am sure its hard enof to put humans in a trance…but animals???dats impressive…
I call BS. He’s not hypnotizing them; he’s exploiting their biology. Anybody who raises rabbits can tell you that if you turn one over on its back, putting its heart above its head, then it will pass out. It’s not relaxing except insofar as having all the blood rush to your head is ever relaxing.
Look at the cute bunny wunny… awwwwwwww
Oh dear – this is a very old trick – my vet used to do it to calm our rabbits – tip them back and then gently air blow up their nose …..
It’s been known for ages that rabbits go into this “trance like state” when turned on their backs – nowt to do with any hypnotherapy powers. Other small mammals and birds (such as chickens and pigeons) also exihibit the same behaviour.
David Blaine did a trick on one of his shows years ago by using this knowledge to bring a seemingly dead pigeon “back to life” in a park.
The chap may have a natural affinity with rabbits but he ain’t no rabbit guru hypnotist person
Some research scientists ‘hypnotise’ rabbits and guinea pigs before smacking the back of the wee beasties head on a desk – I’m sure Grampa Penrose doesn’t dispatch unloved bunnies this way!
If you hold them and gently up their nostrils they’re yours for the night. Seriously.
That should say blow up their nostrils.
That looks like an image from a love scene! And everyone knows what rabbits get up to ; )
OMG, what’s he done to Thumper?!
meh, this is nothing new,
Type it up on you tube and get a hundred hits on people who already knew that putting a bunny on its back induces it into a trance that relaxes them.
Heck, i can do the same thing with chooks too. lie them straight on their backs until they stop fidgeting, then quickly draw a line of chalk on the ground in front on their beaks.
They stay frozen looking at the line for a good 30 minutse.
i own a lot of chooks
I used to breed rabbits had them for years Chase is right !!! when ever you put any rabbit on his back it appears to ‘sleep’ and have no desire to move unless you push it back over
Yeah, and what kind of rabbit language does he use for the post hypnotic suggestions?
That guy looks incredibly like someone I know. I just can’t think of who.
What a huge and cute and fluffy rabbit! Want to cuddle him!!
I know nothing to do with the article…
