Mentalism is said to defy the laws of physics.... At this moment in time physicists the world over are trying to work out how to send messages back to the past and if successful, possibly change the past. I think Derren should give it a go, I have an idea he could work on if interested?

So just to simplify, can I possibly change something that happened 12 weeks ago? Desperate to know.....

The best explanation of time travel, in terms of actual execution and of consequences, is a novel called "Sequence" by Adrian Dawson. It seems like a simple crime novel until you start to see the links. Clearly lots of research but all explained without too much mind-messing.

I found a link to it here...

http://www.amazon.com/Sequence-ebook/dp/B003DA4BBS

It made me believe it's a possibility!

Love your work Derren!

Hi, Berber Anna - I can't agree with your first point, as it is pure supposition of someone's self control. Also the mere appearance of someone traveling back in time is enough to change that reality, as according to the chaos theory the most minute action could result in major effects.
Your second point is much more believable, but only if that were the only method. There are lots of wormholes in my garden... perhaps I should check them out.
PS. Rob - thank you for thanking me for thanking you ;-)

Mike: The fact that no time travelers have appeared, does not signify that time travel will never be invented. For one, they may not wish to broadcast this fact, for fear of making our version of time differ too much from their own (even in the multiverse variant of time travel, as far as I can trust sci-fi ;) it'd be easier to travel between related realities).

Secondly, and this has been actually discussed by physicists and nathematicians, if the time travel occurs through an artificially generated wormhole (which is more of a 'tunnel through time' than it is a 'time machine'), you would never be able to travel back beyond the time of the wormhole's creation. No wormhole has been created yet, so no time travelers can visit our time using that method.

Mike - Thank you for thanking me. I also like to think outside of the box.
I believe that some of the greatest leaps of uderstanding came this way.
However sometimes we have to accept the knowledge of those who know more than me and you (I don't claim any real understanding of physics, just an interest).
I love Ben Goldacre for his insistence on the importance of evidence. I listen to physicists and epidemiologists and any other expert who has the hard data and has analysed it correctly.
My guesswork and supposition do not meet the standards for hard science, but they are damn good fun.
I try to keep the guesswork seperate from the science.
Although all science starts with an educated guess...
Keep on questioning and accept nothing without the evidence. Good for you.
