“People in most parts of the world do not think about their blood group much, unless they have an operation or an accident and need a transfusion. But in Japan, whether someone is A, B, O or AB is a topic of everyday conversation. There is a widespread belief that blood type determines personality, with implications for life, work and love.
It is Saturday night and a speed dating session is under way in a small building in the backstreets of Tokyo. Men and women are sitting nervously at tables hoping to find that special someone. The room is brightly painted in red and white, the staff upbeat and enthusiastic, but the conversations are rather stilted. The couples have just a few minutes to try to sound each other out before a bell rings and they have to move on to the next lonely single. It is a scene repeated in cities across the world but this speed dating session in Japan has a twist.
It is for women who want to meet men with blood group A or AB.”

The same is true in Korea. A Korean friend of mine was able to give me a detailed analysis of my character based simply on my blood group. She told me that I like being with other people but am also comfortable with my own company. I am also a very flexible person but I have a stubborn streak as well. All that, just from my blood group.
How romantic!
Anyway… it certainly reduces probability of serological conflict between mother and child.
The only way I can see this being useful is in the event of an emergency blood transfusion for a loved one, and even then I would guess most A&E wards have a supply they can use in emergencies.
i had no idea the “twilight” series was so popular in japan!
Old news. This has been happening in Japan since the 1970′s.
A journalist called Masahiko Nomi released many books about the relevance of our blood types on our lives & compatibility with others, based on the idea started by Takeji Furukawa.
It has long since been proved to be nonsense, but despite this many people over there still using it as a means of picking a suitable partner.
It’s sad to think of all the potential happy matches that have been missed simply because two people didn’t have the right combination, & quite scary to think that despite most people these days agreeing that there is nothing in it, it is something that even a potential employer would consider an important factor in hiring someone.
It’s a bit disappointing to know that they still believe that rubbish. : (
Interesting theory. I never considered your blood group could say what sort of personality you are etc. If I knew what blood group I was it’d be interesting to read what that says about me & if they were correct or not.

Well, it may come in handy to have a full body of the same blood type as your partner.
I seem to have all characteristics of all bloodtypes but I am A 1 positive. Lucky me, now they don’t chase me constantly for my blood … nor do I have to worry about the fact that there wont be blood for me … seems more important than blood type dating.
Vampires knew for ages though that the differences were pretty obvious … A1 positive was the champagne among blood .. or that very old whiskey .. The other types were considered more lower vampire class drinks. It’s not me who makes that up. Look it up in history books.
Now .. cheers!
Doesn’t such a belief have an obvious and demonstrable flaw in it? In a similar way to astrology. Since if blood group or star-sign dictated character, then the process of conversing should permit evaluation of that temperament. Consequently, it is the interviewer who would tell the interviewee their blood group or birth-sign. Rather than the other way ‘round.
