“If you thought you’d previously seen it all, well, you’re wrong. Case in point: David Morales Colón, a 22-year-old Puerto Rican man who was shot to death last Thursday, and whose wake is now making headlines here in the United States mainland. How come? Well, suffice it to say that the funeral directors at Marin Funeral Home in San Juan’s Hato Rey neighborhood have a flair for the unorthodox. For example, in 2008, they embalmed another young shooting victim and displayed his body standing up for the duration of a multi-day wake.
Back to the present: Yesterday and today, callers who stopped to pay their final respects to the late Mr. Colón got a bit of a surprise. Instead of the traditional presentation of the body in a casket, Mr. Colón’s corpse, dressed in casual duds and sunglasses, was instead posed in a very lifelike position atop his Repsol-liveried Honda CBR600 F4. According to Puerto Rico’s Primera Hora newspaper, the motorcycle was given to the victim by his uncle, and upon Mr. Colón’s untimely demise, family members delivered the bike to the funeral home specifically for this unusual wake.”

That’s cool! It really is.
Loving the “Extremely life-like” comment. Tickled the dark humour bone in me.
I’m just hoping that your love of taxidermy doesn’t extend this far.
Sean
I know you like your taxidermy db, but this is one won’t fit in with your interior design!
This was used as a plotline in “My Name is Earl” once… Earl has to arrange someone’s funeral and pays a visit to an funeral director who specialises in embalming people in lifelike poses the way they’d like to be remembered. True to form, John Waters plays the funeral director.
I don’t find a whole lot of things concerning death ‘creepy’ (unless they involve maggots, because ewww), but somehow this does make me feel uneasy. I wonder why. It’s a perfectly valid wish, and it’s really none of my concern how people display their dead relatives… yet still, it looks creepy. Weird.
F’ing brilliant!
Erm, a bit different I suppose……

we put the FUN in funeral!
this kinda funeral is getting very popular lately…prolly some good money in it. one of my friends drove a cab, & we had it at his funeral a few years ago.
‘The best way to deal with death is to laugh at it,’ I suppose…
Oh, Bless ém…each to their own, eh?
Weird, if it is true. Can’t see how they can keep the body like that .. although .. I can, I think. I’m not working with corpses on a daily bases (well .. or ever) so have no experience in that myself.
Find it weird anyhow .. relatives and friends apparently could otherrwise not remember this guy’s most favorite hobby or pose …
How would I want to be presented on my last day in front of an audience … Hm … No, not naked.
In a coffin with inscription … “No, I’m not gonna get out of the closet”.
Some people have no shame.
How can you clamp a dead guy? That’s just plain mean.
Does the guy that shot him get to display this in his house now?
This takes the Taxidermia cake
