What do creative people do when they’re bored?
If you’re David Thorne, creator of the hilarious website 27b/6, and you’ve got a long weekend in front of you, you might try to see how many people you can get to RSVP to an imaginary woman‘s birthday party.
After selecting a photo of an “attractive, approachable” young woman, Thorne set up a prank Facebook page inviting her friends to “Kate’s Party,” pretended to accidentally leave it open to public viewing instead of setting it to private, then twittered his 27,000 followers.
Thorne’s followers (slashers?) swung into high gear and began RSVPing for the event, which prompted a “response” from “Kate” — who was allegedly horrified that her apartment was to be set upon by thousands of Aussie boozehounds.
“WTF?????????? WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE? WHY ARE THERE 10000 PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN INVITED??????? THIS IS A PRIVATE PARTY AT OUR APARTMENT,” she/he/someone wrote. When it got to 60,000 attendees, the event was canceled, with 170,000 more awaiting confirmation.

This is the dumbest, unfunniest joke ever!
….see? Another twenty three! This’ll go on all day now…
Man that is hilarious! Only in Australia
hey i got one of those invertations like a month or 2 ago, lol but never bother to do anything about it, but damn that’s fun, and what a way to pass time
HAHAH! /b/ got trolled so bad. For weeks now, /b/’s been trying to get as many people as possible to sign up.
I was a big fan of his stuff until this little stunt. On the day that he announced that it was all a lie I posted about how it had become less funny than it could have been if it had been true. Oddly enough his ‘tweet’ disappeared from twitter but I found a backup copy on another site and posted a link to that. Low and behold David then decided to block me from following him on twitter. This is very bizarre behavior from an alleged prankster. The same links were posted on his facebook page too which resulted in them getting deleted and me removed from the page. All I did was post a link for people to see that he had admitted it was all made up. All of this now makes me question the authenticity of his other pranks. I nearly bought his book that week too but got a different work of fiction.
Trolls trolling trolls. What else is new?
That’s one of those jokes primed to backfire when the local residents file the class action suit, once the 60,000 strong mob trashes the neighbourhood and backs up the roads for miles.
Funny to a point but like the real deal it’ll come back to bite him if he fails to shut down his meme.
Normally, I’m all up for pranks, but to be completely honest, I fail to see the hilarity in it… why would it be fun to invite people to a made up party? Maybe I’ve gotten old, it just doesn’t seem funny to me…
