Optical illusions are not the only thing our brains are fooled by. The “reality” we experience is second hand. That is to say, input is converted into electrical signals by our sensors, then sent to the brain for reconverting. That means we are attempting to decode information that has first been encoded and subsequently decoded. To do that effectively our sensors would have to be full bandwidth and passive rather than active. So that all available data was detected and no spurious distortion was introduced. Also, our mental code book would have to perfectly match the cipher used for the encryption process. Regrettably however, when two individuals experience the very same event their resultant interpretations of it tend to differ.

I just love optical illusions. Some I can spot straight away, but others, no matter how hard I try to look at how it really is, I just can't!

Hey DB... the twitter re-tweeter seems to be broken on this page. I am in the states, maybe that's what is causing the problem :) Love the blog, keep up the great work!

Msg from Abeo: Thanks for spotting it, fixed it now :)
