“Forget about bongs, mirrors and crack pipes. Kids are getting high using headphones. Certain MP3 music downloads available online supposedly induce a state of ecstasy.
This new practice is called i-Dosing and requires a pair of headphones and something to play music. Proponents of i-Dosing say the ecstatic feeling listeners supposedly feel is caused by the binaural beat effect.
This effect is the result of two slightly different audio waves being heard separately by the left and right ear. The two tones played at slightly different frequencies makes the listener think they are hearing a quick beat.
YouTube is littered with videos that include these audio files, and even more reaction videos of teenagers freaking out after getting an i-Dose.
I was pretty skeptical about the whole idea of getting high with an audio file, so in the name of science and journalism, I decided to give it a try. I didn’t pay to download an i-Dose, because there are plenty of videos on YouTube, and I didn’t want to fill out an expense report for Discovery News asking for a four dollar reimbursement so I could get high.”

well if they can make hypnosis cds to induce calm ,someone was gonna come up with this, i wonder if the government will ban this??
Well at least it’s not affecting their health.
I’ve heard of this before and I still think there could be something to it. I’ve yet to try it out for myself but the mind is a funny thing, I imagine certain sounds and images CAN influence people in different ways.
Then again it could be a placebo effect, but that’s better than going out and using real drugs right?
(Heh, I had a point I forgot to mention, whoops)
Although if it is real, I highly doubt youtube streaming has a high enough audio quality for it to work. It’s like the experiment Derren did with sticking the audience to their chairs, that would only work under certain conditions (so no copy pasting it to youtube!), and even then there was no guarantee it would work.
I have been using Delta Binaural waves to try and help me sleep. It is a very nice feeling very relaxing.

Now this is my sort of drug!
I-Doser is a scam.
I tried it multiple times and used it ‘correctly’ (i.e. dark room, good headphones). They have a Dose-file called ‘Hand of God which, Acoording to their advertising should be really tough shit…it wasn’t. This dose runs about 2 hours and all you get is sleepy and dreamy. And this is not even due to the drug, it’s because everyone who sits on a comfortable sofa in a dim room for 2 freaking hours gets a little drowsy. But that stuff should kick in like heroin. After that experience i pursuaded a friend of mine to try i-doser. i told him that he was getting acoustic marijuana, when in reality, i played the equivalent of a cup of coffee for him…not surprisingly he acted stoned until i told him. we had a good laugh and thats it.
ROFL! reminds me of the time my best friend made “virgin” punch fer a party, but told everybody there was booze in it…eventually they all started acting drunk!
Does this mean that internet cafes will be the drug dens of the future?
You walk down the average high street one day to have a coffee and check your emails, and discover that Starbucks has been invaded by drooling, sunlight deprived teens, and dirty old men, all gawping at laptop screens amidst beaded curtains and seedy red lighting. It would be convenient if you got the munchies though; you could just get up and buy a cake.
Jim Peters is the developer of the cross-platform, open-source binaural beat generator SbaGen. Although the application has been available for free online since 1997, an commercial application called I-Doser, which used SbaGen’s source code without permission, has been in the news lately. I took the opportunity to ask Jim a few questions about binaural beats and his program.

Didn’t get high
Tried it, the best thing that happened was a little adrenaline rush when I accidentally listened to it on full volume through headphones, other than that, nothing.
Worst film I’ve seen this year. Teenagers should use more traditional methods of getting off, if you know what a mean, ‘twould be much more fun for them.
Idoeser is a scam. Just binaural beats.
Tried it, no result whatsoever. Lost a good half hour. I’ll use the radio, as I normally do, since it seems more powerful in achieving these effects
Maybe 27 is too old for this already?
Power of suggestion…. of all people you should know how this can be used to make music do anything from make people stand up to stick them in their seat, if enough suggestion is in place.

Hi Jess – Internet Cafes are the drug dens of the PRESENT:

I can do that without headphones and such … Present youth is soooo limited, brain-wise. Ehehe …
In fact, I can get high on this blog if I’d wish .. or on twitter .. or wherever on the internet … it’s all in the mind .. our natural drug center … if we wish it to be like that .. heaven and hell .. can be found in there .. in our own mind … I hang out on fields in between .. heaen and hell became a bore in the end as well …
I found that if you listen to the cannabis one while smoking a joint, the i-Dose really gets you high!
Pseudo-scientific bullshit, the same goes for hypnosis CDs (and I am a hypnotist! hypnosis is nothing more than a religion itself!).
just listen to some krautrock you don’t need no I-doser i reccomend CAN and Acid mothers temple for a serious trip!
