“Mobile phone footage has captured the moment that several UFO’s were spotted flying above Reading, Berkshire. The video was captured by Lizzie Zuowen Tang and Jo Mingjiao Xue who claim to have seen 21 flying objects between 4.45 and 5.53 in the morning.
Ms Tang said: “Their shapes were like rods which pointed in the direction they were flying, but they were rotating at the same time when flying forward. “They flew very slowly without the noise which planes generate when flying, so at first we thought they were meteors, but then we immediately realised that they were definitely not meteors because their speed was much slower. “We think that they were flying at a very high altitude and we saw two of them generate a very strong light flash for a few seconds when they were flying.”"
Being a skeptical lot we don’t beleive in UFO’s but are open to convincing evidence. This hardly counts as some as it’s so poor but it’s hard to make out what they actually are. Certainly not conventional aircraft of any sort – but maybe our readers have an idea?
Head over the The Telegraph to watch the video

We saw them too!!!…(just one though) was some months ago but were exactly as you describe. We were flabbergasted as it was spinning in different directions very slowly then moving slightly and returning to first position… in other words it was being controlled and not carried. we could see bright flashes eminating from it for a short time. I was on here the next day asking if anyone else had seen it but got no reply.
‘…Cards for sorrow
Cards for pain
‘Cause I’ve seen blue skies
Through the tears in my eyes
And I realize I’m going home…’
…or it’s a plastic bag! Damn jpeg tech, if i had access to the mother-ship i’d resolve this UFO business once and for all. But they banned me…
Hard to tell when the camera’s software is having a hard time encoding the images at such a high digital magnification level. There are artefacts all over the place.
The light/shading on the “tube” appears wrong, given that it is shot against a (dull) rising sun.
It appears to be shaded dark on the top and bottom which is odd. I would expect the top to be brighter from sunlight during mid-day and the bottom to be lit up during sun-rise/early morning *if* the sun was behind the camera. The placing of the sun would put the object into shade, surely.
Kinda like how a Dyson fan might get about…
what is more nuts? The Government having this secret technology, or ETs?
Given that the Farnborough Air Show begins in two weeks, I would expect people to see extra aircraft in the sky nearby. We’ve spotted extra air traffic above where we live in Aldershot for the past few days. Presumably as aircraft are flown in to be exhibited, bought and sold.
UFOs are simply Unidentified Flying Objects. You better believe they exist! Whether you believe they are of alien origin is an entirely different matter, of course
As usual, poor quality .. can’t make anything from this .. I saw an URO the other day … something I could not identify running around in my garden .. no, not naked me going nuts .. and no vids to show off with or to ask another opinion .. (it looked like a big hedgehog without the spikes .. so I’m thinking guineapig then perhaps).
‘Haven’t seen ufo’s myself, but can imagine that if you do see something weird you really will check it for lots of normal things as well .. but the limitations of eye sight or equipment often is the problem .. otherwise lots had been solved already I guess.
It remains a weird thought .. that there probably are others up there .. somewhere .. and at the same time not. They are probably bad news, just as humans ..
Isn’t it amazing that they never turn up near a BBC outside broadcast team? Or Sky, ITV, any film crews, movie sets, sports events, anywhere that somebody has a better camera?
What about all these phones with 8mp cameras? Where were they?
Why is it always such poor footage?
In the future, when every phone shoots HD video, we might get an answer.
Still baffled WTF they are, but I won’t assume that they are extra-terrestrial visitors until I hear the beep beep beep and the immortal words ‘take me to your leader’.
Maybe we should point some of the CCTV cameras at the sky… they are bloody rubbish as well, though. Can’t identify an assailant but they can see your number plate just FINE. (pun intended).
Whatever it is, it’s the same as “UFO spotted in Somerset”, also on the Telegraph website. To me, they look like some sort of inflatable blimpy thing, but they are a bit perplexing.
Skeptisism is fine, and presuming you mean Alien life visiting this planet (when saying UFOs) then it is a difficult concept to believe in.
But… this isn’t a paranormal event, like magic, or ghosts. Science (and we all know you lot are believers in science) is very likely to subscribe to the idea that alien life actually is visiting this planet.
Why?
Because it’s exactly what we would do if our technology had reached that level. An alien species might only need a few hundred, maybe a thousand years head start on us to achieve the kind of space travel that would allow it.
We as a species are looking for alien planets with signs of life! It is our main goal when seeking out other planets in the cosmos. Do you really think that they wouldn’t be, or have… done the same exact thing?
if you look at the “UFO Phenomenon” from a pure statistical standpoint. There are way too many reports each year for it to be purely crackpots and attention seekers. “Normal” people report sightings and contacts. People with allot to loose. And I’m not saying you should believe in little green men, or even that I believe. Just that the statistic’s are out of whack and deserve a second look.
Reading? What the hell would aliens want in Reading???
Alien life? Yes, technically a possibility but so unlikely that I’m inclined to dismiss it. Far more likely are more mundane explanations – a trick of the light, weather balloons, flocks of birds, lenticular clouds, experimental aircraft, escaped box-kites, space debris or meteors burning up… . No reason to suspect that all witnesses were dishonest, drunk or gullible (although some may well have been).
Cool! I believe in aliens and U.F.O’s but it’s a bit funny how they saw this really early in the morning when nobody else would be up…
Birds catching the morning sun
> Reading? What the hell would aliens want in Reading???
Exactly!! They need to get their SatNav updated
Mine says, “Reading ahead … turn around when possible”
Aldermaston Weapons Establishment is near Reading too. I suppose they could have something to do with testing – nothing fatal though, I’d imagine! Certainly not aliens coming to visit – they didn’t say hello.
what? again??
Hey guys, I am one of the eyewitness of this event. The reason how we captured this phenomenon is that I was sitting beside the huge window in my room on the 8th floor of a building in Reading, and watching a film, so I did not go to bed. When finally I felt very sleepy, I looked at the sky casually and found the sky was becoming brighter and the sun was rising, so I realized that I really needed to go to bed and have a rest. Then I saw the first UFO. I thought it was a meteor, so at first I said to myself: “Wow, a meteor. Let me make a wish.” Then I realized that it was not a meteor. “But what could it be? A plane/aircraft?” So I opened the window trying to hear the noise which a plane will generate when flying.
Because many planes usually fly across the sky above the building I am living in, I am very familiar with the noise they will generate when flying. But I heard nothing! It was so early in the morning and very quiet – in my video there are only the voice of my clock in the room, the voice I pressed the button of my mobile phone and the voice of the birds outside. So I suddenly realized that it was an UFO. It left a bright, long, narrow and compact track behind in the sky when flying. I immediately grabbed my mobile phone trying to take a photo, but only took a photo for its track in the sky. When I was still gapemouthed, two more UFO flew in the same direction into my eyeshot. I took 2 photos for them without any hesitation.
Then I started to hesitate: Shall I wake up people who are living in the next left/right room (I am living in a student hall) to see these UFO? I would prefer to wake up the one in the right room, because the UFOs were flying toward my right side, but the person living in the right room just moved in so I even did not have time to speak to her and know her name! So, I ran out of my room and knocked the door of the left room. “Be quick, open the door please!” Then Jo opened the door – later she told me when she was woken by me, she thought I must be seriously ill and therefore needed her help urgently – and then I said “Look out of the window! Are they UFO or something?” Then she was astonished as well by what she saw (her window was open then, and she did not hear any voice either).
Just when we were astonished we saw more UFO flying one by one, in the same direction which the previous UFOs flew in. Then I said:”Be quick, take photos!” But she had no camera at hand either, so I ran back to my room with bare feet (I had no time to put on my shoes) and used my mobile phone to record the next 7 UFOs.
After that I went to Jo’s room, and when we were exited and I was going to show her what I recorded, we saw more UFOs, then again I recorded them using my mobile phone. Finishing recording – going to let Jo see what I recorded – finding more UFO appearing in the sky – recording them again. This repeated four times (and thus we only managed to record not all of them). Then we decided to call some newspaper company.
The first company we called was BBC. But it took us quite a few minutes to find a valid telephone number from their website to dial. We tried many times and finally our call was answered by a woman, and the first question she asked was:”So what new story do you have?” See, they don’t want news and truth, and they just want new story. Then she interrupted us and transferred us to an answering machine. After we made a few choices according to the answering machine’s instruction, the machine hung up our call suddenly – we even had no time to start to tell them what happened. We got upset so finally decided to try Daily Telegraph. We decided that if Daily Telegraph did not treat this seriously, we would give up.
Generally, although we also encountered some problems when telling Daily Telegraph what happened, they finally got what we recorded, and published a tiny part of them (UFOs’ appearing lasted for more than 1 hour. and even when we made the first call to Daily Telegraph, the 21st/22nd UFO was flying across the sky, but my arms were too tired to record any more video. We recorded using my mobile phone for about half an hour, but Daily Telegraph only published less than 2 minutes of what we recorded.)
Later the same day Daily Telegraph told me they published what we found. I went to their website and found their publishing time was around 16:40. Then I went to Jo’s room to tell her, but before I spoke to her, she asked me: “Did you tell others later that we saw UFO this morning?” I told her no, and because I did not sleep for the whole night, I was too tired to do anything else except having a nap after I went back home at about 15:00. And I asked her why ask. Jo told me that at about 14:00 -15:00 she heard many middle school students passing by the building we are living, and they were loudly talking about the UFOs found in the morning. I guess perhaps the people who saw those UFOs are not only us two.
Looks a hell of a lot like a hand glider to me. in fact, even the way they describe it, metal rods… pointing in the same direction it was flying and it fits the description of being a noiseless aircraft. the video is of a poor quality as is standard for these types of things but in my opinion, that looks like a triangular shape on a horizontal perspective. The only other explanation would be that its a kite of some sort or a remote controlled aircraft. but its hard to judge the distance and tell how far away / how big it actually is from this shot.
Best thing for Lizzie to do would be to release the raw footage on to the net. Obviously put copyright messages onto it so Murdoch Media doesn’t get a free ride but in it’s raw footage, with in-file camera information, people will have a better chance of getting a handle on it.
Kite sounds good. The shading could be a design on it.
Yes, I am sceptical but also open-minded. I believe there *must* be life “out there”. Just the distances involved are way too great to traverse in a timely manner with only conventional propulsion.
Could it have been a bunch of people having fun building some of these things? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Asstv3jtpSs
In the right weather conditions, they can look a fair bit like UFOs.
