Jack: is that an 'in joke', reflecting misinformation from the internet? Or a genuinely held opinion?

It is a fascinating belief, anyway. I have not heard that one before.

The number of conspirators involved would be mind-boggling.
Polar explorers, aviators, Google Earth employees, Pentagon employees, geologists, astronauts, etc...
If there is a hole and the Earth is hollow, all of the seismic resonance imaging of the Earth would have to be doctored. Therefore, all the seismologists are in on the lie, too.
What a whopper.

What a wonderful picture! It's one of my dreams to see the Northern Lights live, from Iceland on a boat.

I've been involved in the production of some great animations about the solar system, including one which explains the plasma and corona levels, and shows how solar flares erupt.

If you want to take a look, it's in 'Structure of the Sun' in 'Alien Worlds' on iTunes U http://bit.ly/cCBOnd - you'll need to have iTunes installed to watch it http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

It is really from the reflection of the inner sun which is actually residual molten material from the Earth's formation. (The Earth is hollow)

At times, when conditions are right, the light reflects out of the polar opening into the atmosphere.
