Maggie: Oh yes indeed, paracetamol can cause serious organ damage. If you take upward of 40-60 tablets at once, that is. Which is why medicine cabinets should always be childproofed, and suicidal people should read up on less painful ways to die.

I've taken up to 1200 mg of paracetamol a day (after surgery on my tonsils, which is rather painful when you're in your twenties, and by doctor's orders obviously), and I was totally fine. I usually get a lot of the minor side effects of meds I'm on (not a reason not to take them, btw, unless the side effects signify allergy), but paracetamol never caused me any trouble at all.

Well done Maggie. Extrapolate your own experience to the entire population - that's nice and scientific.

I've taken paracetamol for years, and never suffered any side effects, so by your logic, it's the safest drug on the market.

And no, you would never come to any harm taking a homeopathic remedy, unless you've got an allergy to water.

Hang, on though, we can't be sure that's safe: http://www.dhmo.org

@Phil said;
"People have the right to weigh the evidence and try other ‘medicines’ if they choose"

Like they have the right to be taught creationism in science class?

They should only allow one brand of natural remedy and call it "Placebo". If you want to to treat yourself with bark and leaves then go to the forest, but when I get a headache, I'm reaching for the paracetamol thank you.

This is bull, we cant trust the profit making big pharma with our health, we have the right to decide for ourselves.

Government is not there to protect the people from themselves. People have the right to weigh the evidence and try other 'medicines' if they choose, Government ought to ensure the existence of a framework for punishing those who exploit people and make false claims, but they have no business doing blanket bans.

If anyone doubts that there are naturally occurring medicines which have tremendous potential, which have been known to western science for decades and yet are still not available due to the inherent lack of a profit model of natural and effective substances..... look at the potential and history of Ibogaine,

The industry needs better regulation to protect consumers from dangerous ingredients and impurities introduced by poor quality control. Also a central library of such remedies with reliable clinical data on those products. Heavy licensing only protects the largest companies who often prioritize profit over quality.
