Doctors in China examined a patient complaining of headaches and a bad taste in his mouth – and found a 4ins blade buried in his face.
They say it had been in Li Fu’s face for four years without his knowledge, since he was stabbed in a robbery while working as a cab driver. Doctor Xu Wen, vice-director of stomatology at Yu Xi City People’s Hospital, said: “We were amazed to see such a long blade in his face.
“And it’s even more amazing to think that the blade had been there for more than four years and the patient was still living without too many problems.” He is now recovering after surgeons removed the blade, which had penetrated his tongue root, muscles and brain, in a complicated four hour operation.
Li, 37, of Yuanjiang County, Yunnan Province, was stabbed in September, 2006, after he resisted a knifepoint robbery. He was treated at a local hospital where doctors cleaned his wound and gave him disinfectant shots.
“The wound healed up gradually and I didn’t have any other symptoms, so I didn’t think of having further checkups,” said Li.
Police later caught the criminal and found the broken knife handle – but they never found the blade until Li was x-rayed at a county hospital. Doctors there referred him to Yu Xi City People’s Hospital which agreed to waive some of the £5,000 fees for the complex operation.

I have to say that’s sort of gross but then sort of cool! I doubt anyone else in the world will be able to tell people they had a knife buried in their face!

The X-ray shows the blade clearly protruding out of the side of his head. It’s bot healed over and occuluded – thus there’s no way he would not know it was there – that’s if this story is true anyway. I’m calling “bollocks” to the whole thing.
I think he should have had the entire treatment free instead of £5000 waived off the bill. It a result of negligence from previous incident not followed up properly causing migraine and bad taste. The Doctor are responsible.
To simon… If you look at the picture properly the blade that is protruding from the man’s face is infact the clade after it was removed and is being held by the surgeon, you want to look a little lower down in the jaw area there is a big shadow in the man’s face, that’s the blade in his face and it doesn’t protrude so would have healed and the victim wouldn’t have known it was there, derren doesn’t post fake stories!

The x-ray shows no such thing, Simon. The actual blade is being held in front of the x-ray. If you look carefully at the x-ray image you can see the outline of the blade starting at the jaw and tapering to a point just behind the top corner of the eye.
Did he not find it wierd that he could slice steak with his tongue?

Simon, do you mean the actual removed blade that’s held in front of the X-ray? Because on the X-ray, the blade is roughly in between the right (left for us) molars and the left eye socket. It’s not protruding at all.
It is amazing that the man still alive.
