Having lived in central Florida for the last 20 years (oh my gods, and I'm still sane...aren't I?) it doesn't surprise me in the least that there's a city ordinance against feeding the homeless. Florida strikes again with another moronic response to pressure from the people who have money and influence.

It seems that some of the "HAVES" think that the "HAVE NOTs" should not be given food in public areas. Someone had or wanted to have, for lack of a better description, a soup kitchen to help feed the homeless in the area and all of a sudden city ordinance started popping up that would make it impossible and illegal. Then they started handed out food in the city park, POP, new ordinance.

It's a pity the city can't do something to help those who need it and not just rich tourists!

“with Mayor Buddy Dyer describing the activists charged with the misdemeanor offense as “food terrorists.”
God knows what he’d have to say about manna from heaven.

Annonymous doing something genuinely noble as opposed to their usual pointless anarchistic rebellion?
I don't believe it.

In addition to the article about Westminster council (published on LabourList so some level of bias should be assumed). The article was published on 7 April and was, at the time, probably an accurate response.

Since then Westminster council have published the following
http://www.westminster.gov.uk/press-releases/2011-05/westminster-pledges-to-reach-solution-over-soup-ru/

Most would agree that it was a deplorable proposal in the first place and their published article only says that they're reconsidering but it does indicate that they're listening to public response.

So anyone with a vested interest please do write to them and get involved to improve things as it seems they're willing to listen.

Well, for once it seems hackers are doing something worthwhile with their time. Hope they choose very carefully what they do to minimise damage on people not related....

Anonymous are not hackers (or even crackers) they collectively don't have brainpower to illuminate an SMD LED, they are a bunch of politicly active script kiddies who like to run other peoples DDOS software. I hope Buddy finds himself out of a job soon enough but if “Anonymous” wants to be taken seriously they need to stop hiding behind masks and proxy servers and stand up for what they allegedly believe in person. They like to think of themselves as political heroes and activists but are in reality little more than cyber bullies who get off on causing disruption and simply use the political side as justification. True political heroes use non-violent protest and DDOS and cracking is just digital violence.

That's outrageous! I work in Westminster council's area, and a lot of homeless people benefit from pret's free food. Also, sometimes, rather than give change i'll give a piece of fruit or a sandwich or a cup of tea. It seems ridiculous that I could go to jail for that! Not allowing homeless people in that area won't mean they cease to exist! A classic case of Nimbyism.
