First, I am a climber and indoor-climbing instructor and I am very afraid of heights! However, climbing is essential to me. It's the greatest feeling I know, finishing a climb in the great outdoors :-) As for holding the body with one finger only, training training training. Muscles are easy to build, tendons and ligaments takes more time. Hard learned lesson, had to give up climbing for several years due to finger pains after overdoing it a bit. :-( As for his free-solo climbing, well. His choice, isn't it? The question really going through my head though is, 'do I want my friends casting me as someone that "doesn't even feel fear or feel any of the normal human emotions that anybody else feels" or for that matter, as someone who can "just shut [my] brain off and do some of the sickest things that have ever been done"?' I’ve done some climbing without rope, nothing like that though, and I agree that’s how it should be done/ that’s really climbing.
