There are actually plans to use bacteria to leach platinum off some of the busier roads, as tiny amounts are chucked out from cars, because it’s in the catalytic converter. However, this is equally interesting, if not as large-scale.

Nice story, but was not found on London’s streets. It was in Manhattan, the journalist then tried the “urban mining” idea on London’s streets.
