ABC NEWS claims that three Florida high school students are dead after being hypnotized by their school principal in Sarasota County, one in a car accident and two by suicide.
Principal George Kenney is believed to have hypnotized up to 75 people, including students, members of the school staff and their children. Sarasota County School District officials repeatedly warned Kenney to stop the practice, which the principal insists was only done in the interest of helping students to be motivated and focused on school work and sports.

But where is the correlation?? Not at all unusual for there to be suicides and car crashes amongst teenagers. Why is this being linked to the hypnosis by the principal??
I guess they are also dead AFTER eating lunch or AFTER going to school.
That is so sad
Oh look, a good old-fashioned witch hunt. Come on. The guy hypnotises people to help them deal with anxiety. Two of the 75 later kill themselves, a third gets into an accident. The suicides may have had to do with the anxiety these students were feeling, the accident seems unrelated. But because people have some weird misconceptions about hypnosis, there’s now suddenly a direct link between the principal and these deaths?
Hypnosis isn’t scary, from what I’ve experienced with it. It’s not that different from getting absorbed into a book or a film, or being very into your character when rpg-ing or larping. You temporarily hand over control to the hypnotist, but you’re still very much aware of what’s happening. There’s no magical ‘mind control’ going on, and it most certainly won’t kill you.
The Demon Headmaster…literally.
What happens when people fall for mysticism and ignorance instead of information.
We better round up all the Yoga instructors too. I know 3 people who used to take a yoga class – and they’re all dead!
Burn the witch!!
PS: note to self; don’t let weird bearded men help me to “relax”
There’s seriously nothing wrong with hypnotism! You’re just in a sort of trance and you’re still aware of your surroundings. I find these types of stories misleading. The lack of knowledge being used just makes it sort of biased as the writer probably believes that hypnotism is an evil/mind-destroying thing when it’s not!
oFTo <–My angry face right now
Rant over. Hopefully.
Association does not mean causation. Tis what I learnt in psychology. If it were to be true, wouldn’t there more of a correlation like snuggleskunk said???
James,
That’s basically a description of Derren Brown – “weird bearded men” lol
We think western society is so sophisticated, yet it appears that superstition is still very much a part of the fabric of society.
This is ridiculous and will go nowhere.
Florida has more than it’s share of ignorant people, some of which are out for blood. I remember a story of a poor young woman who was concerned because she felt as she described it “almost sexual feelings” while nursing her newborn infant. Being ignorant, she contacted a local resource hotline to try to find out if this was normal — which it is — only to have police barrel in, remove the infant, and take her to family court. It took her six months to get the baby back. Can you imagine the damage done to the poor wee thing, to have been deprived of its prime bonding period? And people, do ANY of you honestly think a woman would allow an infant to suck incessantly on her breasts if nature had NOT provided some recompense, such as good feelings? ‘Nuff said.
What did he told them to do while being hypnotized, Thats just insane.
Jings, Crivvens and Help Ma Boab. :-s I better stop practising self-hypnosis I guess!
First of all, I’d like to respond to Laura who said, “Florida has more than it’s share of ignorant people,” to which I must respond, “AMEN TO THAT!” (pardon the pun) I’ve lived in Florida since I was eight, moved here from London and you aren’t wrong, there does seem to be a higher percentage of strange folks here, maybe it’s something to do with the heat…
The ONE thing that really bothers me is that ABC NEWS is covering this as a straight news story. Just reporting the facts and not taking the extra step to have some kind of professional on to explain just how tenuous a link there is between the hypnosis and the three deaths. Tabloid journalism on ABC NEWS, another reason I stopped watching TV!
Chris Rock: “Whatever happened to ‘crazy’?”
Regardless of whether his intervention had anything to do with their deaths, it is sad that 2 young people took their lives I doubt he is being held responsible as he hasn’t been sacked entirely, he was asked to stop hypnotising students probably to avoid this sort of situation
