@roz: What is worse Roz is that in many ways schadenfreude is self perpetuating in that those people who do it have come to accept that it is perfectly acceptable because so many people do it and facing the fact that it is a failing of character would be difficult for someone who already has feelings of inadequacy.

It’s become a Herd mentality not unlike happy slapping.

Obviously some levels of schadenfreude can be funny so long as everyone involved acknowledges it as been so. For example I stubbed my toe tonight and the wife and my son found that funny and so did I – eventually. Also you kind of know that toe stubbing will get everyone at some point or another so my time will come when I get to laugh first.

With regards to happiness – Happiness like time is something I try to hold on to it when ever I can, but eventually it always slips through my fingers. How else though could I appreciate it when I have it.

Sometimes I am happy and sometimes I am not and a lot of the time I am simply in pursuit of it.

Variety is the spice of life. Things cannot get better without change and everything does not always change for the better.

Happines is a bright light in the darkness and we must have the darkness to appreciate the light.
