Science Of Attraction

The Science of Attraction is the sequel to the BAFTA nominated Science of Scams web series.
Introduced by Derren Brown and presented by Kat Akingbade and Charlie McDonnell the website acts as the hub for a number of entertaining and informative experiments about the psychology, biology and unwitting judgements that explain why we are attracted to each other.
Poets have swooned over it since the invention of the written word; singers started crooning about it even before that time. It is a central theme in our daily lives, from the books we read to the people who make our hearts beat a little faster. It’s what “makes the world go ’round.” For the most part, attraction remains an unsolved mystery. No definitive method exists to calculate or predict to whom we will be attracted. The media constantly tries to tell us how we should look, what is attractive, what products we should buy and what clothes we should wear to be more attractive, there are books on chat up techniques and rules about dating and now science is tackling the subject. Recent experiments involving everything from sweaty T-shirts to facial symmetry have started to piece together some of the clues to this enormously complex phenomenon and in this series we’ll explore the scams and the science behind attraction.
Each video contains experiments that test theories about the science of attraction. Lively, entertaining and insightful these experiments are based on the most recent research that has been carried out on the science of attraction. Do psychological strategies espoused by self-help gurus and dating experts really work? Is it really possible to use body language, NLP and other psychological tricks to make yourself appear more attractive? All of these questions and more are investigated at http://www.scienceofattraction.co.uk. You can also visit their Twitter Account, Facebook Account, and YouTube Page.

hi x i have watched all the current episodes of science of attraction and while it is very good i think its a shame that the wonderful Derren isnt in it much xx
I like the concept and I’ve enjoyed the experiments I’ve watched so far.
But am wondering why all the volunteers have been around the same age? Do people not feel attraction in their 30′s or later? If this series was aimed at the much younger market then it should be stated as such (unless I’ve missed something somewhere) but for me I’m finding this a little ageist in that every person being used is in the same age bracket.
But apart from that, as I said, am very much enjoying these episodes but probably not as much as the ‘Scams’ series.

I’m really enjoying these shows. Not sure that they show anything new (so far) but still very enjoyable. (Also agree that more Derren would vastly improve it)
every program that comes out of derren’s mind is spectacular. one criticism for this one would be that i’m finding the program’s approach to attraction very heteronormative. i understand that some of the experiments require males and females to be separated so that gender specific results are shown, however, experiments such as “dating techniques” could feature at least one same-sex interaction, perhaps to expand the horizon of what the viewer gets from this experience. please understand that i’m neither arguing that a little “gay” needs to be in everything to make it politically correct, nor implying that because derren is gay he is somehow obliged to “represent” – no, i just genuinely wanted to see how same-sex pairings would have interacted in these experiments. thank you, derren!
Well, I don’t need science to to tell me that Derren is very, very attractive : ) That’s a shame Emma, he’s not in it much. I’ll still watch it though because he’s touched it! : ) X
@Emma Powell
I agree
i went to the webite and read the bit tht tells me about derren. does anyone think tht the presenters should write ther own wee bit about what has happened in ther adventures to find the ‘one’?
Didn’t scientist bottle sweat and show by its level of attractiveness, that it was signaling the diverseness, and thus advantageous qualities, of a potential partner’s DNA? And as for love. Is it not possible for someone to love another, without them being aware of it? Or not love another, without that other person being conscious of that? So, by whom is love actually experienced?
Just cool.. Really shows that everyone IS different and that we should be with who we love and seek approval or be put under pressure from our peers. Let’s face it. Everyone wants to be loved but no one knows exactly what love is. Oh and the pick up line about facebook just sounds wrong !!!
I love this series. It’s great to see Derren and kat back (YAYNESS
) and to have Charlie on the team is extra YAYNESS as I think he is great (and I follow him on Youtube……..not stalking him >_>). I think the concept of the series is brilliant because, as an 18 year-old, socially awkward nerdy girl, it’s great to see what guys are attracted to and whether it’s possible for me to change it. I love the fact that we are just attracted by what is naturally occuring. I love it
The series was great. It reminds me a lot of Desmond Morris, but with the Derren Brown experiments throughout.
I enjoy Derren’s program even though we don’t get them in Canada… I am very thankful to youtube for providing me with a slice of them to enjoy… I am always Questioning if they are real but in the end I decide to enjoy… Well Done
i think the show, shows the basics of how attraction works, body language and confidence as well as good posture play a big part as well as the tonality and the words people use, i find the best way to build attraction with someone is build a sense of familiarity, everyone likes someone to be like themselves in some way as well as talk about subjects that allow people to build further in a conversation, like holidays, music, fashion, sport, asking open questions and building rapport, in terms of the programmme, pretty much the concepts are the same wheither someone is gay or straight
I really loved this. It was amazing! Didn’t expect to see the magnificent Charlie McDonnell. Kind of got a little crush on him! But still, watched it all on Youtube., found it intriguing, and really have to go now before my ICT Teacher finds out I’m on here.
I’ll leave you with fangirling: ASDFGHJKL;
Love, Beth. X
