My mother had a card reading and recorded it on a cassette. I was very disturbed to listen to it. There was no suggestion at all I could decipher, like in this video. The reader told my mother exactly, very detailed information about our family, the past present and future, and it was 100% accurate at the time, or proved to be so a few years later. I wouldn’t ever go myself out of principle but I’m afraid the stunts in this series have been rather facile and superficial. Of course there are con artist out there but that dosen’t mean a phenomena dosen’t exist either.

And to reinforce what Anna has said above, the tarot are an interesting way to create self fulfilling prophesy at the very least. On another note, I really hate the exploitive nature of the people that don’t even read the cards the way they have been taught.

Its sick really, that there is an ages old ‘system’ on meanings for certain cards… and true or untrue, there are people that abuse that system regardless. These people are more interested in creating a false image of themselves and a healthy wallet than they are in directing others fairly. I’d be interested to know what those cards actually said. I know that it is a past, present, and future spread… but i wonder if the ‘actual’ set meanings of the cards would have made more ‘direct’ sense to her. If anything it would’ve been fair.

Can i just say, that there are genuine practitioners of the tarot in the world that don’t claim to be psychic. The 72 cards have different set meanings and the readers that ignore the set meanings of the cards are disgusting. Lets suggest for a moment that certain cards are drawn and by coincidence they relate to the past, present and future in a pretty accurate way. Out of 72 individual meanings, if they are read correctly and not lied about, it is at the very least an interesting way to spend ten minutes; and also it could be a viable way to maybe look within yourself for your flaws and try to iron them out in your life.

If used correctly, the tarot cards can neither be proven or disproven, however, no money should be charged for this, it is disgusting and exploitive!

Thanks Anna, I think your explanation is quite reasonable… Maybe I should be more sceptical towards fortune tellers.

Drug Crazed Dropkick: I only know about predictions which were re-told by my mum, obviously she would of kept personal things to her, so I don’t know if they all came true… But three out of them (and quite specific) definitely did…

n: Are you sure you want an explanation? If you hold this belief dear, explanations will probably only seem annoying. But sure, here goes:

As for ‘life ending on the broad road’, that’s very general — it could signify an accident of many types, or you could even interpret it metaphorically to mean dying in more wealth than she had at the time. The fact that her death matched fairly literally is just chance, but even if it hadn’t, it might have matched somewhat. It’s a fairly safe prophesy.

As for studying abroad, that might be a self-fulfilling prophesy. If you liked the idea, and were told that this was GOING to happen, you could’ve subconciously worked to make it happen. Or it could be a lucky guess.

I still believe that some people have psychic abilities. My mum have been told specific things, like her life will end on the broad road and also that I will be ok and study abroad, which I couldn’t even imagine back then (as we were not a wealthy family)… all came truth! My mother died from hyperthermia on the road! someone explain that!

Derren Brown is not the first person to expose people like this, on youtube there is a much more in detail series about psychics in perticular. The test Lee vilinski pointed out earlier was also features on there where he gave the same piece of paper to everyone in the room.

Psychics are frauds and they ruin peoples lives, praying on the eldery and naive. Digusting people, lower than thieves in my opinion, at least pickpocketing takes a little skill…
