Pound shops are so trashy- they always say you can tell how scummy the town/city you live in by how many you have lol I think having about 4-5 is classed as scum!

Pound shops are only good for chavs who get their shaMpoo and conditioner from there- when really it is dog shampoo and conditioner, and they sell skin lightening cream- Im like- THATS RACIST!!

Well, Pound /Dollar shops are not all bad. lol. I admit I go there for stationary.I’ve had enough of being ripped off by name brands that think its okay to charge me $5.99 for a bloody pen!

However, Walmart beats everyone on prices, including things like electronics, universal dvd players, digi cameras! Bargains, bargains galore!

March 31, 2009 at 10:49 pm
petrova says:

Well yes for stationary it isnt all bad- the one we have in my city is very “posh”- in relation to the usual poundshop, and has rather ok ranges for things like stationary and stuff like it.

I wish we had a walmart or a target here though :/

and Wal mart sources goods from chine knowing that:

China artificially suppresses wages by anywhere from 47 to 85 percent below what they should be,according to the AFL-CIO’s complaint about China’s labor policies filed with the United States Trade Representative last year. With Wal-Mart as its willing customer, an authoritarian regime ruthlessly warps the market for wages by enforcing a system that controls where people can work and imprisons and tortures people who attempt to organize real unions or strike.

It’s a very right wing unethical empoyer
(and they won’t stock any cds that have swearing in them)

Is your name Petrova Thatcher?

Amanda says:

Walmart owns Asda in the U.K too. I know that they operate unethically but I still can’t resist buying the electronic goods from them. I know, know, I’m a bad person, but the temptation is too great pass by.

However, my uncle has boycotted Walmart for the past 10 years to present day. There are many ethical shoppers out there. I would love to be able to shop eithically, but right now my finances don’t afford me that choice.

I’ve noticed poundshops have an uncanny knack for selling items that cost less than a pound at ordinary supermarkets. Bleach for a pound? I get mine for 59p!
As I always say, if you’re looking for a crock of gold, try the end of a rainbow… if you’re looking for a crock of shite, try Poundland!

ScreamingGreenConure says:

At least things cost a pound in pound stores. It sucks here. You go to the dollar store, you pick up an item labelled $1, you take it to the checkout and they add 15 cents tax. That 90p sale would be $1.04 here. That’s STILL not $1.

April 2, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Diana says:

I feel your pain ScreamingGreenConure. Why can’t they just include the tax on the label, like they do in the U.K? Thats one thing about the states I will never like.

Nopke says:

Ah, an euro shop it would have been here then .. which aren’t here I think .. and then the 90 cent text …

Nope .. no laughter here …

Ehehe … maybe a slightly raised eyebrown I’d have at times when encountering those ..
