“Indian doctors are studying a remarkable 83-year-old holy man who claims to have spent the last seven decades without food and water. Military medics hope the experiments on Prahlad Jani can help soldiers develop their survival strategies. The long-haired and bearded yogi is under 24-hour observation by a team of 30 doctors during three weeks of tests at a hospital in the western city of Ahmedabad.

Two cameras have been set up in his room, while a mobile camera films him when he goes outside, guaranteeing round-the-clock observation. His body will be scanned and his brain and heart activity measured with electrodes. “The observation from this study may throw light on human survival without food and water,” said Dr G. Ilavazahagan, who is directing the research. “This may help in working out strategies for survival during natural calamities, extreme stressful conditions and extra-terrestrial explorations like future missions to the Moon and Mars by the human race.”

Since the experiment began on April 22, Jani has neither eaten nor drunk and has not been to the toilet. “The exercise of taking this yogi under the medical scanner is to understand what energy supports his existence,” Dr Ilavazahagan added. “Jani says he meditates to get energy. Our soldiers will not be able to meditate, but we would still like to find out more about the man and his body.”

Jani, who dresses in red and wears a nose ring, grew up in Charod village in the Mehsana district in Gujarat. He claims to have been blessed by a goddess when he was aged eight, which has enabled him to survive without sustenance.”

Isn’t the most likely thing that this guy is NOT some amazing form of unheard of human?
These Drs should be investigating first whether or not he’s cheating with a solid test, before trying to understand “what energy supports his existence”
Where’s the tinge of skepticism Derren?

Mmmm why do i not believe him? Might have something to do with the fact the body not only needs energy but it needs vitamins and minerals to stay health. Then theres the no drinking, you can go days without eating but the body is mainly made of water and needs regular intakes of fluids.
Yea it would be good if the body could last so long without food or water but all scientific evidence says it’s it can’t and is dangerous to try.
It tickled me with the nose ring, almost as if it was a strange thing to wear. Maybe it’s the nose ring that has strange powers and is the source of his ability. As for the godess, it’s good to see he’s had such a strong faith from an early age but I think his imagination got carried away.

i heard something like this before and the person was surviving by TMI (picking his nose know the rest) apparently meditation was used but studies showed that human secretions ie: snot contained just enough fluid to survve…now wether its true or not i dunno!! but it was very interesting theory! i mean im all for cavemen days but days with no food how else did ppl survive? everything is on our body for a reason eh? yukkk lol x

Looks like a NG tube… nasogastric feeding. Have inserted a few of them myself. Look at his left beardage areas – hmmm….
what about a PEG feed? so many ways to conceal nutrition. Even a saline drip would work for a while. Especially if it also contained other electrolytes and minerals.
Good trick- wish they could all be like Derren and say “hey, guys, look what I can do! It is a trick, though, but I am not telling how…”

Peter too says:

Micro organisms do taste better when inhaled while breathing. We overfeed ourselves so wont even notice we’re eating all the time .. This also solves the mystery why we all gain weight whereas we seriously did not cheat on our diet ..

Only some were aware of this food around us .. they were wearing mouth caps for that reason … the true anorexic

It’s a bit like a whale .. but instead of algues in water …

Although the food transfer via the mind .. is another option I almost forgot .. Yogi’s visual pretty well .. a bit too well …

Oh, did people around this person loose weight in a strange way?? It’s the yogi’s parasite mind .. feeding himself on others ..

kevin says:

could be a hoax; however, believe it is possible to process energy differently, i.e., changing the mix of how much we get from food intake and how much from the ocean of electromagnetic energy bubbling around us (sun, earth, air, plants). perhaps when considering that at the quantum level particles of cosmic energy are constantly passing through us, even when indoors, does it require extraordinary imagination to consider the possibility that a kind of processing skill can be acquired? in fact, genetically the case can be made that this skill already exists in our DNA. the most rudimentary organisms that were our predecessors so many eons ago, relied on their optical capacity, if any, to gather “food” from light.

Roz – very interesting link. Says it all, really. I love meditation and am convinced that we have a degree of control over autonomic processes that we cannot usually access. There has to be a limit to my gullibility, though, and this is way over the line.
The arrogance of western science… funny that a bunch of Americans are also practitioners. The western scientific tradition is ‘arrogant’ because the scientific methodology is structured to reveal the truth as far as possible, to eliminate the untruths and not to reinforce a faith viewpoint.
The international scientific community of ‘western science’ is now populated with peeps from all over the world and is not as western anymore…
I would love some of these wonders to be true, but I am not holding my breath… lol

Two great sentences from Wikipedia on this;

“Wiley Brooks is a purported breatharian, and founder of the “Breatharian Institute of America”
“In 1983 he was allegedly observed leaving a Santa Cruz 7-Eleven with a Slurpee, hot dog and Twinkies.”

That made me laugh.

Hmmm… it will be interesting to see what results are published. I hope the doctors monitoring him are not, as Derren would say, going to find evidence to support the answer they would like to see and ignore more inconvenient evidence.

I remember seeing a documentary several years ago about a lady in Australia (I think) who claimed never to eat. When the camera crew followed her around, it was true she didn’t eat any meals, but she grazed on other people’s food! A square of chocolate here, a crisp there… it all added up to give her more than enough to live!

Interestingly nobody mentioned the obvious. His living environment may be set up in a way where he can obtain water and nutrients from the air. Some kind of high humidity with vaporized nutrients, etc. This would still be somewhat amazing, but not nearly the same thing as what is being claimed. You could survive quite well on healthy soups, so just take it a step further and vaporize those soups.

The story of this man surviving without food or water for 70 years is a true miracle and a gift to us from God, so that we may realise that we as human beings are so much more that flesh and blood. We are spiritual beings.

May God Bless you all and the children of Africa and Children
all over the world that are sufferring from starvation and injustice.

Shane says:

It is quite disturbing that the quotes from doctors involved all seem to assume that he is telling the truth from the outset -and that subsequently they need only scan him to discover how he does it. The casual mentions of using these methods for trips to the moon and Mars, for example, were downright frightening.

Human beings can survive in humid conditions for up to ten days without water (Good summary of basic water needs)

Hence the solution to this apparently perplexing, but clearly ridiculous, ‘miracle’ is simple.

1: Place the man in a locked room.

2: Wait 20-30 days

3: Remove corpse.

Mystery solved. I take cash, credit or check.

Raj says:

We in India are used to some fake and some real miracles and when the observation started, I felt its fake but its been 12 days and he hasn’t been to the toilet so that’s strange.

Also, most of the doctors (some act opposite) are hell bent on proving that he is a fake; so that way its weird that he manages to be alive somehow.

Ram says:

C’mon, this is not difficult. Here is what happens.
We know that the guy spends hours meditating each day. We also know that the yogis can leave their bodies. So he leaves his body, waits outside McDonalds and enters the body of a fat boy who orders giant macs and coke. Fully satisfied and sated, he re-enters his body. Job done! That also explains why his own body doesn’t pass waste.

Next problem, come along…. You claim you can walk on water? That’s old hat. Just look at the video on youtube and see two dudes running on water in a lake.
Miracles are not what they used to be…

It is true that this guy hasn’t taken anything from life or people, but what has he given to the world? Please don’t tell me the creme de la creme of weigh loss exercises. His source of power does NOT come from God, so that only leaves one other source… All of the enemy’s tricks are pretty pointless and only serve to deceive. Do I believe that he has gone without sustenance for 70 years? Yes I do, but NOT by the power of God.
