Trick Of The Mind The Heist The Gathering Messiah Seance
THE HEIST
January 2006

Under the guise of a motivational seminar and a follow-up documentary, The Heist was a one-off special.

Could Derren persuade any of his group of responsible, middle-management businessmen and women to steal £100,000 in an armed robbery? Such was the premise for one of Derren’s most ambitious and challenging specials to date.

The programme demonstrates how little it takes to cross into deviant behaviour, and is a masterclass in persuasion.

MESSIAH
June 2005

Derren Brown takes his debunking mission to America. In a country where his mind control skills are unknown, he sets out once again to demonstrate just how easy it is to dupe people into believing five impossible things (almost) before breakfast. He tries to convince five leading figures that he has powers in their particular field of expertise: Christian evangelism, alien abduction, psychic powers, New Age theories and contacting the dead. Can he succeed in convincing the five ‘experts’ of his powers? And will they go further and openly endorse him as a true practitioner?

THE GATHERING
May 2005

The Gathering was a specially made recording of a live show shot in a mystery location in front of an invited audience of magic experts and celebrity fans. A one-hour fusion of magic, suggestion, psychology and misdirection, it gave the cynics the chance to decide: is Derren a fraud or should he be burnt at the stake? Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Reece Shearsmith and Jean-Christophe Novelli were just some of Derren’s subjects chosen at random. The audience also included Jonathan Ross, Simon Pegg, Al Murray, Sarah Alexander and Rupert Penry-Jones. As Derren said: I’ve always loved performing live and of course it gives people a chance to see that everything’s fair.

SEANCE
May 2004

Derren Brown investigates the history of the Victorian Seance. He does not believe in spiritualism, or the efficacy of seance, but is interested in the fraudulent techniques and clever psychology employed by the Victorian mediums. Derren employs these techniques as well as many of his own to create the experience of a modern seance. Seance was nominated for Best Entertainment Performance at the Royal Television Awards in 2004.
