SCIENCE OF SCAMS &
SCIENCE OF ATTRACTION |
Derren and Kat Akingbade present two popular online series for teenagers – the first (through clever hoax videos released onto the net) explaining the science behind seemingly paranormal phenomena such as the Ouija board and Chi energy, and the second investigating the science behind what attracts us to others, and what makes us attractive to them. ‘Science of Scams’ was nominated for a BAFTA Craft award, a Children’s BAFTA, and a BIMA best Multi-Platform award.

THE EVENTS
|
On live television, Derren predicted the National Lottery. This was the first of four ambitious ‘Events’, each with its own theme. The shows were: How to Predict the Lottery, How to Control the Nation (in which Derren stuck viewers to their seats – including a few people who made the news by remaining stuck all weekend), How to be a Psychic Spy, and How to Take Down a Casino. The series was nominated for Best Entertainment at both the 2010 Broadcast Awards and the 2011 National Television Awards.

TRICK OR TREAT
|
In Derren’s favourite of his television series, members of the public are convinced to sign a Faustian pact and make a blind choice of a Trick or Treat card. The first participant – picking a Trick – is hypnotised by a rigged photo-booth and wakes up 13 hours later in the same booth in the middle of Marrakech. He is unaware that any time had passed, even after he finds his flight tickets home in his pocket. This is Derren at his most devlish: the series was nominated for Best Entertainment at the 2008 Broadcast Awards.

THE SYSTEM
|
Derren offers the nation a foolproof way of predicting the winner of a horse race. Again and again he openly predicts the winner for a single mum from London and she wins fairly each time. Will she put her life savings on one final horse and in return, be let into the secret?
