Derren Brown investigates the history of the Victorian Séance. He does not believe in spiritualism, or the efficacy of séance, but is interested in the fraudulent techniques and clever psychology employed by the Victorian mediums.

Derren employs these techniques as well as many of his own to create the experience of a modern séance.

Séance was nominated for Best Entertainment Performance at the Royal Television Awards in 2004.
