Oooooh, I love anything like this, gambling, casinos, etc! So apart from being fascinated as to watching the incomparable Derren (of course!) I also have an added interest in the subject matter too!

So looking forward to this Friday…..and oh to be the one he calls!! How WILL he do this?? Can’t wait to find out!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

So sad these are coming to end though…. ๐Ÿ™

MKolthof says:

I DO really look forward to this episode, i like casino styled episodes of Derren. But i hope it is a bit better then the last 3 episodes… The first was promising and had an nice explanation, but the other one’s i didn’t had the surprising feeling. Witch i get quite comfortable with in the last few seasons of his show. But this one looks more promising then the others to me, i don’t know why, but i think because it is the final one of the season.

Sorry for my bad english, but i’m a very poor dutch student who cannot finance a good english accommodation. Good luck to myself, thanks.

September 28, 2009 at 6:05 pm
flapjack says:

If memory serves Derren mentioned he’d been banned from playing in practically every casino in the UK in the DVD for “Inside your mind”, so how come he’s been allowed into this one? Is this the one remaining casino that doesn’t know who he is? Or is this more misdirection?
Or did he use his Jedi-like powers of persuasion to get past the management? That’s almost as interesting as the trick itself ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank You Derren – Friday nights have not been quite so dull on tv, your wit and charismatic presense will be greatly missed, guess i will have to entertain myself by playing the WII again.
Don’t fancy bringing something out for that now do you????

Derren! – something so spooky happened! My friend made me a collage drawing thing for my birthday and when i was trying to do the remote drawing on your programme last week I drew something very very similar to what she had drawn me (unfortunately no concentric circles though – hehe! – but i hadn’t read the paper!!) – we thought it was very strange and just wanted to tell you!!!

I’ve really really enjoyed the events and can’t wait for this week’s!! xx

Sue says:

I’m starting to wonder whether the lucky one person will be the person with the prize/ultra-violet writing on their Enigma Poster… and if so, am gutted as I always buy Derrens stuff but couldnt afford the poster this time (hence I could do with the money). Anyhow, end of winge.

Will miss seeing you on a Friday night, but to still have updates and pics here and Twitter is great, keep up the good work Derren, Andy, Coops, Phylis, Iain, Jennie, and co.

September 28, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Grax says:

Mr Brown, you’ve already shown us how to win the lottery, what could be nicer than that?

September 28, 2009 at 10:13 pm

“There is a small but distinct possibility that the fortuitous individual under scrutiny might be your very own good self” = It Could Be You. Off’ve our very own National Lottery.

Anyhoo. I’m rather sad that this is the last of The Events. The last 3 weeks have sparked my imagination, depleted my bank account and made Saturdays in retail a nicer day to work.

Has there been any word from Channel 4 as to whether there’s going to be a DVD comprising of all four episodes and some bits they didn’t show? I’m thinking Children on Buses with Balls in Bags…

September 28, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Kel says:

Really looking forward to this little treat.

September 28, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Katy says:

I think the twist will be that, actually he has done nothing. He’s just made us all believe that every week he’s done these miraculous things, but really we’ve just been staring at blank screens and he’s done them confusing mind tricks on us all to make us believe he’s brought out this new series.

I know your games, Derren.

***for the record- I’m kidding***

… or am I?

September 28, 2009 at 10:51 pm

Aw, last one ๐Ÿ™

But sounds like it’ll be a good-un ๐Ÿ™‚

September 28, 2009 at 11:11 pm

@flapjack: lol

“These are not the Derren your are looking for”

Yup, works for me! He might’ve just been banned from blackjack tables, since with a little skill the game can be swayed slightly in your favour. Currently, casinos don’t think you can sway your odds on a roulette table without a computer… though I suspect that’s all about to change on Friday…

September 28, 2009 at 11:14 pm
JayKay says:

I know I’ll cry when that person gets the call. i love when Derren does nice things for people. It’s a laugh and disconcerting when he’s evil to the Tricks (I’m sure they all walk away with something learned and an amazing memory to keep), but I just love when you know the experience has been a wee bit life-changing for them. I hope he wins tons for them. What a put-pocket that’s going to be!

September 28, 2009 at 11:54 pm

It is indeed a shame that it’s going to be your last one though.
I hardly have the tv on at all anymore, but I have caught most of your Friday shows
(As in; Watched every show just not fully from the start… Sorry :P)

Odd… the way in which you phrase that:
รขโ‚ฌล“There is a small but distinct possibility that the fortuitous individual under scrutiny might be your very own good selfรขโ‚ฌย.

I’m too tired to see if there’s anything to decifer in there currently ๐Ÿ˜€

Where do the little close up pics of Derrens face come from? I see no way to put them in myself ( not that I would want to) and am now wondering if this is Derren doing this at a later time possibly, someone else doing this, admin etc?
Are they auto inserted from keywords?
Any clues as I seem to have missed that part of class.

Derren, don’t give away too much. Your physiological techniques must be paying good dividends. It’ll be a good show. You know it will. Well-done for all your hard work in bringing it together. Do a double blink on the show in recognition of this comment and I’ll be even more amazed. See you on tour later in the year. All the best.

September 29, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Mr Woolf says:

You can also open a new .txt file (notepad) on your computer, highlight a Derren emoticon that you want to use, select ‘copy’ (not ‘copy picture’) then paste into the notepad.

This should show you the needed combination for various emoticons.

Hope this also helps in addition to the advice Francis gave.

I have to say, even before tonight the events have been really good. Some bits i have not been a great fan of, like the stuck to your sofa ones. I think its because i personally know no one who was stuck so its hard for me to belive it. Maybe a gathering round the projectors like they did for the first event would have been more beliveable but hey ho.

Thanks again EVERYONE who worked on the Events. From the runners to Derren, it takes a whole heap of people to make the shows work, so thanks guys and gals!

I am deeply gutted it is his last show tonight too, but hasn’t anyone noticed his show on Tuesday’s at 10.35pm on Channel 4?!?! They are repeats but they still never fail to amaze! First of the series started last Tuesday with Simon Pegg guest starring. I would love to win that money, as I’m sure we all would! I would actually take much more satisfaction in talking to Derren though to be honest!! Bugger the money just give me a call ๐Ÿ˜› Don’t need to wish you luck, I’m sure it will all go swimmingly! I am unsure of the casino as somebody would notice its Derren Brown and he has broadcasted he will win ร‚ยฃ175,000 from a casino so i dont think people would let him in, also i am sure people would want to say hi and talk to him but it seems no one noticed it was him? i doubt it would have been a set up though as he wouldn’t risk somebody elses money and why would he ruin his name by his own choice?

Don’t know how he did lotto, i didnt stick to my chair, i didnt draw circles and he messed up on and got the wrong number but still Derren Brown is god and i am a huge fan, the events was amazing and he doesnt deserve all the stick he would have recieved

Are people really THAT concerned that he did something illegal?! And you never have right?! Never sped or stolen something even if it is small?! It’s entertainment I can’t believe people focused on the fact he did that! Can’t be too serious anyway, he’s done it enough times in the past he’d be in jail by now if it was. Fascinating, witty, VERY| interesting and I must say a very handsome man! Would love to have a drink with you, conversation would be amazing and very educational. Loving the book, and loving the activities (remembered the list and tasks. Strangely remembered more words backwards than forwards before the visual part came in!) Magnificent read, I really do recommend it!

A lot of the things may not have worked because you may not be very suggestive, it doesn’t work for everyone. For anyone who has seen ‘An Evening of Wonders,’ notice on the table moving bit that he picks the 4 people whose pendulums swing the most – that showed him that they were the most suggestive so the table trick would work on them. It’s in his book (BUY IT!), amazing how it all works.

Didn’t Derren say before the events that it was all about misdirection? I haven’t seen any misdirection. Were the events themselves created to misdirect us? I didn’t stick to my sofa, i didn’t draw concentric circles and he didnt get the right number. Are these mistakes on purpose? I’m confused. Anybody agree?

I noticed some strange things in this show. One of them being, while the ‘lucky viewer’ was going towards the truck, Derren specifically said he could not see him (as they only had a phone connection). However, as he went up the stairs to enter the truck, I clearly heard Derren say ‘there you go’. There were some other minor things in this last show I noticed, but I would have to watch the show again to recall them.

Yeah, you are right Gert, i have also noticed several odd occurences.
Going back to his advert, what he is saying doesn’t make much sense. And there are several times where he looks at other things and stops talking to make us look at them. I know this is blatant but i think it symbolises his wish to misdirect us. For instance, when he says “four events of misdirection” he is interupted by a man on a bicycle. But the mean thing i noticed is that he says he will teach us what he did in the events and will show us how we will “get away with it”. I found that odd.

I know this isn’t the end of the events. It is all about misdirection i am sure. The genius has something sneaky up those sleeves.

How it was done.
Assume Ben was live and real and Derren really talked to him in the lorry.
The bits you SAW of Derren in the lorry were prerecorded.
First is the prerecorded into. Then as he walks down the stairs you see the camera picture go all fuzzy. That is where a splice took place.
When you heard him ask for ร‚ยฃ5000 worth of chips etc that was DUBBED OVER. The real part was recorded without Derren’s voice being recorded.
The souds would have been recorded by the main camera of the general sound in the casino, which is too far away for Derrens voice.

A small amount would really have been gambled, e.g. 5 or 10 of one unit.
This would have been done many times until the ball landed either to the left or right of the desired result.
There is a 2 in 37 chance of that happening.

Just want to thank Derren for the “mind control” he exerted in the Lottery & Casino Events. Nothing to do with predicting numbers, just a platform from which to “suggest” to the nation that gambling in general is utterly futile. Those that missed this hidden “suggestion” look back. Derren told you :

1. The chances of winning the jackpot are approx 1 in 14 million, i.e. utterly futile.
2. You are more likely to die in the week you buy your ticket than you are to win it!
3. You have no idea if they are cheating or not
4. The easiest way to cheat would be to use weighted balls which you wouldn’t be able to see

In Casino he gave everyone the bitter sweet taste of every gambler. The excitement of expecting to win,
followed by the crushing brutality of losing.

I got it

Very impressed with the events, casino seemed very fake though, too quiet, no background noise, not many other people about, if it was fake studio, then fake wheel, balls etc. Not sure at all. More thinking it was all set up. Taking Bens money was excellent, if it was real, i think that the fact he failed and i think it was set up casts a bigger shadow of doubt over the rest of the act.

A well executed fail though, squash court was very impressive, many it was a step to far.

Can’t wait to see more though.

A fantistic, intelligent con man.

Well done sir
