Leicester again
Great second night at the De Montfort Hall. We stayed at a terrific boutique hotel ‘Maiyango’, which was just lovely, and has a great restaurant attached. Worth seeking out. And pop into Alfred Lenton’s next door: an odd gem of a downtrodden second hand bookstore that has been there for 40 years. Also wonderful is The Case, a superb restaurant where we had a truly excellent lunch, and wished the lovely Fran the Happiest of Birthdays. She’s in the picture at the back, all birthdayed up.
Hardly any time to explore, but what a beautiful city. And another terrific audience last night, so thank you everyone. Voice was better too.
Now heading to Ipswich, fattened on a splendid lobster lunch. We’ve just headed off and I definitely need a wee.
x
What a lovely, happy photo…..made me smile just looking at it. ๐
And dare I say that, busy though your weekend was Derren, you sound much less stressed and far happier after those days off than you did the other week. Great to hear.
Wishing you all the best for Ipswich and look after that voice!
Take care
LC x
Disappointed to see that you couldn’t “convince” somebody else to pick up the bill!
You should have taken your own advice in the Enigma programme – always go before! Incidentally, if you like second hand book shops, be sure to visit the TWO Halewood & Sons if you’re around in Preston before/after Blackpool: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?um=1&hl=en&gl=uk&q=halewood%20%26%20sons%20preston&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=il
I’m coming tomorrowww :):) Enjoy Ipswich! x

I want to go see the books in Alfred Lentons please ……… just gotta have books, give them to me now
Hi Derren have you managed to get your iPhone app out yet? We would be really interested in helping you get it out there.
Ipswich, YAY! you will have the pleasure of meeting the wonderful me there on saturday! hehe x
Hi, I live in Leicester, saw you last time but missed you this time. Great City . Love it. I follow you on Twitter as “Filmessayist.” I am currently doing a PHD on how moving image enacts the process of thought around topics, and for some time have really wanted to talk to you about it. Very interested in your work. Decided if I don’t ask I won’t get. I am of course a filmmaker. Interested. I could meet you in a place of your choosing for a chat. Will send you further info if required.
Please come back to Leicester soon, We will all miss you terribley ๐
Try and enjoy Ipswich! I used to live there – horrid place!!! Try The Wharf shop in the town centre and the buddhist shop opposite! Its the only thing i miss about Ipswich!! xx
Thank you for an amazing evening’s entertainment last night. Was almost too excited to sleep when I got home!
Also glad you enjoyed a quick mooch around Leicester. I’ve only been ‘living’ here since starting University in September, but I’ve grown quite fond of the place. Hopefully you’ll re-visit on your next tour?
Great show last night, I’ve been looking forward to it for some time, particularly as I missed Nottingham last year. ‘Tricks’ were brilliant and the comic banter through out the show added to the enjoyment of the show.
I have enjoyed the shows on TV for a few years but I have always been a little cynical on how the you were able to do the things you do even though you do say that you do not uses stooges etc, however after my daughter took part in last nights show I now truly believe that you have a great skill, and long may it last for your audiences continued enjoyment.
Already looking forward to your next tour, many thanks to you and all the backstage support.
Loving the shirt.
I’m going to see you in 4 days!!!!!! I cannot wait! ๐
oh so glad you had a wonderful time in Leicester that’s great, Hope you enjoy your stay & your show in Ipswich ๐
I will be seeing you again next weekend in Bradford ๐ i sincerely look forward to it
Take care see you again soon sweetie
love & hugs
Chantelle (((hugs)))
Absolutely wonderful show last night. The energy in the room was electric and to have a capacity Leicester audience rise to their feet as one for a thundering standing ovation was quite something to see and be a part of. Everything about the show was superb. You and Andy truly outdid yourselves.
It was nice to meet you again at the stage door and have you sign my copy of “Absolute Magic”. One really nice touch was that even though there were a lot of people to see and you had limited time, you’d signed my other half’s programme and then called him back when you remembered that he’d been one of the people onstage helping with the TF routine so that you could add a message of thanks. That was a really sweet thing to do and meant a lot to us.
Anyone that missed this show check DHM 26/06/10.
Oouuu cozyy…
(anyone wearing a tutu? hmpf) ๐
Enjoy seaside Ipswich!
x
Fab show last night. Thanks Derren, and thanks for signing my programme!!!!
looking very smart casual there derren i must say ๐
Hey Derren, I’m Jonathan.
I’m 14 but have loved you and your shows for at least 2 years.
I saw you in Leicester 2 years ago, and again yesterday. (Of which the first time, you sent me back to my seat for being “too young”, which I now class as talking with you. (: )
May I just say you were absolutely amazing last night.
One hundred percent brilliant, on the top of your game.
My mum (who was chosen) and my friend were both baffled as well.
How you write that sort of a show in 2 years baffles us in itself.
I do hope you read this, just so you know how brilliant your fans think, and know, you are.
I am still singing the song in my head today (without giving too much away).
Just brilliant.
Thank you for making my Tuesday so enjoyable.
Can’t wait for the next tour!
Jon.
Nice to see you out with your mates enjoying yourself. I notice how plain and ordinary you all look together just like normal folk, just good friends enjoying an afternoon lunch together. Was the guy at the back to the right born with a pigรขโฌโขs trotter or was he involved in some kind of freak accident involving a bag of monster munch?
i met derren in burger king!! he is very nice man ๐
What a great night. A fantastic show and my wife and I were lucky enough to be staying in the Maiyango Hotel and met Derren when we checked in and also after the show……how lucky was that?! We wanted to say what a pleasure it was to meet you. Derren was very friendly and charming, making us feel very at ease (goes with the territory I suppose but still!). We didn’t want to hassle him after the show when he was relaxing but he came and chatted to us when we were leaving the bar on our way to bed. And we reiterate what you said about the hotel- it;s one of the best we’ve stayed in anywhere, and we travel a lot. Derren, Sharon says hello and looking forward to the Nottingham show in June!
Hi Derren
remember me? Im the lady u ***SPOILER REMOVED*** . I just wanted to say what a fantastic show it was and that I’m still a little freaked how the things that happened, happened. I was up all night thinking about it, not good beings though I have 4 night shifts to do now. Anyway, just wanted to thank u for letting me be part of ur wonderful show, not that I did much myself. I’ve been coming to your show for years and am tickled pink I got a kiss from you. see u soon.xx
remember…dont force it out, just let it out.
I wonder is it possible that You will visit Poland? :)))
Was the best night I ever had. Even my Dad was in awe of what Derren did, and Dad is normally only in awe of himself ๐ ***SPOILER REMOVED***
Ah-mazing. Utterly brilliant.
Thank you,
Steph x
I love it when people lean really hard into a photo because they think they won’t be in it then the photo comes out and theres loooooads of room. I don’t know why this entertains me so much but it does.
Thank you for this fantastic night in Leicester. Thank you too for the autograph. Unfortunately the picture I took of you with my wife didnt go too well and i only got half of her face in there ๐ ooops !! Wife wasnt too impressed with my camera work.
Already looking forward to your next book and then tour! (and hopefully will improve my camera work by then)
My four favourite parts of the Leicester show…
1. Derren (And before anyone says it, yes, I know that’s corny)
2. The finale (Obviously! ๐ฎ )
3. My dad going up on stage (and Derren taking the piss out of him ๐ ๐ ๐ )
4. *SPOILER REMOVED*
Enigma rules!
looking forward to meeting youon saturday evening!
AWESOME TOP DERREN <3
AWESOME TOP DERREN ! ๐
Hi Derren, just wanted to let you know that I have been to that restaurant a couple of times myself, and we even sat at that very table for my Great Auntie’s 90th birthday a few years ago, lovely food! I’m coming to see you in Birmingham at the beginning of May, although I must admit I have already seen the show last year on it’s first run in London… nonetheless, I’m still extremely excited (I think it’s fair to say I’m a pretty big fan of your work!) x
Derren you look so much younger when your not in a suit! Not that you look old in one! xxx
Absolutely forgot 2 book tickets 2 the show – I am now unconsolable, kicking myself and angry!
However, I am very pleased you all enjoyed the meal at the Case that was cooked by my fiance… very jealous he got to cook for the mighty ang legendary D.B!!!!
Oooo I had lobster on my birthday 2 months ago. It was very yummy ๐
Have fun in Ipswich!
