Glasgow
Glasgow is famous for its great audiences, and this week’s were every bit as lively and demonstrative as any of us could have hoped for. This was made even more astonishing given the temperature level in the King’s Theatre. Those high up in the gallery, and, it must be said, those on stage under the lights, had to contend with almost unbearable heat: the weather outside and the lack of air-conditioning (which they say is on its way: fingers crossed for next year) in this beautiful theatre made for a sweltering experience for many. At least on stage I was focussed on performing the show: those fanning themselves upstairs could only sit and sweat. So a double thank you to all those who came, and triple thankings if you sat upstairs. For me, my dressing room was no respite either. Ugh. I entered it at each interval and after each show, absolutely sodden, to get changed in a similar temperature. The very lovely staff found me a couple of fans (the air-cooling kind, not devotees of the show) which did help a bit.
On top of this, I was suffering from that run-down, coldy, coughy, fatigue which teachers get at the end of terms and performers on tour get when they know they have a break coming up. It’s as if the body senses it can stop holding everything together for a bit and let go. So during the days I was like a zombie: slumped in my hotel room, staring at the wall, trying to sleep, devoid of energy, eating brains. Although there were moments during the day when I doubted if I could manage the show, there is something (camply referred to as Doctor Theatre) hugely restoring about performing, and in fact I looked forward to the show in the way one might look forward to the company of a friend when one feels low. It’s pure adrenalin: once on stage with a show to do, the mind is distracted and the body given new fuel: aside from a shortness of breath and a concomitant light-headeness, I did fine and the shows were all good ones.
I did, however, have to refrain from coming out to sign. Apologies to any of you who were hoping to see me. And again, if someone comes to the stage door and says I’m unable to come out and sign, please don’t waste your time waiting around.
I am now home, to rest and paint a little and then head off to Italy if the airlines allow it. Speak to you in two weeks or so, when it’s back up to Carlisle. And hopefully this time the weather will be cold and miserable.
Have a wonderful holiday dear lovely friend….. and please take great care! Worry about you X
See you soon….. XXXXXXXXXX
Enjoy your break, hopefully it will be just the ticket to get you feeling well and back to your usual self. Italy is a wonderful place! xx
Have a lovely time in Italy!

Rhian 🙂 xx
Well, the tour is ending soonish, and everybody is looking forward to the last of your Investigates trilogy next week. Plus we’re all looking forward to eventually seeing Enigma on our telly boxes. And we’re itching to find out about your next TV series. So have a great time with your painting, because it seems you’ve been busy!!
I look forward to meeting you one day (maybe next year). Remember that it’s not your fault that you’re so awesome (well, it is your fault, but hey..), but enjoy whatever you do – we all love your work and your goatee.
Is there a Derren Brown Investigates this monday?
Msg from Abeo: Next one is 31st
Enjoy the painting/rest. Very much looking forward to seeing you (again) in Carlisle’s theatre/sports-hall
Top job on the latest tv shows. You identify so well that it always seems to be society’s vunrable that is targeted by these charlatans
Well done on last nights show in Glasgow!!! It was very hot (I was upstairs) and u did great. It was my 21st birthday and I got the tickets as a surprise- I thought the show was fantastic. (I have seen it three times now and loved it every time)
enjoy ur time off. Hope u get to Italy. 😀
I was one of those with my fan in the sweltering heat upstairs with my make -up melting down my face and hair turning frizzy in the heat, I must have been quite a sight!! …But I have to say that my partner and I enjoyed every minute of the show, it was intruiging, inspiring and thought provoking. For someone like myself who studies psychology, your shows are just fascinating! Thank you so much for bringing your talent to Glasgow and fighting through the pain barrier of your cold :o) …Hope to see you again!!!
Jemma
Have a great time Derren, leave the iPhone, iPad and Macbook at home!
All the best,
R
I hope that your Italian vacation is purely for rest and relaxation, rather than working on ‘Derren Brown Investigates’. I trust that the weather and surroundings will be suitably inspirational for the next leg of the tour and the workload for the remainder of the year, too!
I really hope you enjoy your holiday to Italy Derren, (so lucky….what I’d give to go to Italy, esp Rome, someday!) You, Coops and every member of the Enigma crew thoroughly deserve a break & a rest….you’ve all worked so hard bringing us this fantastic show.
I hope you’re feeling better soon as well and come back from your break refreshed & ready for the final dates of the tour.
Hope you all take care….

Have a good time in Italy, get the batteries recharged. Say hi to the pope from me (you know the type of hi).
What a shame you felt so unwell. It must have been made so much worse because of the tremendous heat. I don’t know why you’re thanking us for tolerating the conditions during the show when it should be us thanking you for performing in it. Have a lovely and well-earned break and holiday. Relax, have lots of cool refreshing drinks, eat lots of lovely food, chill out and come back to us refreshed and ready to hit the road again.
lots of love and see you in Edinburgh on 8 June

Hope you feel a it better after your rest 🙂
NOOO not cold and miserable!! I live near Carlisle (but couldn’t get tickets… sold out… GCSE exams and all…) how about ‘pleasantly mild with no rain’ 🙂
Thanks for signing the book in Edinburgh and taking piccy with me 🙂
And hope you like the one I drew for you 🙂
Demi

say you’ll still update Twitter!!!! 🙁 *!please please please!* 😀
Just want to say thanks for a brilliant show on Saturday! Hope your feeling better soon.
The show was amazin I was in the gallery sweating but I let that aside to still enjoy the show to the full I am only 13 but still understood it all perfectly I hope you will come back to Glasgow.
Thank you for friday night. A virgin to your live shows I loved every second. Pressume you have control of the volcanic ash so have a relaxing break. (Please give Coops a well deserved pat on the back for such handy work as I missed the opportunity. Cheers.)
It was a pleasure working with you in Glasgow this week. It’s not often we get to work with uniquely talented and unassuming people like yourself. I am also glad I found your Blog as otherwise I would not have seen your painting of Rufus. It is incredibly beautiful and, I think, absolutely him. He is a truly fascinating and ridiculously talented creature.
Lovely to have met you and we all look forward to the next time. Fingers crossed for a change in the weather!
Ax
ohhh Italy, my favourite country. Enjoy! I’m not jealous at all… noooooo… 😛
Very well deserved. Have a nice holiday
Thank you for a great evening in Glasgow on Thursday!!!
Hope you have a great time on holiday, you and the crew work so hard and deserve the break!
Get well soon

Derren, thank you for your lovely words and fantastic show. We were in the gallery and it was worth every rising degree in temperature! We went on the Thu night and the mood was electric. I went with my sisters (their first time) and I got as much joy from their flabergasted faces as I did from the show itself. As always, it was a multi-sensory, exhilirating, orgasmic adventure, and for that we thank you.
Long live the DB experience,
Adriana from Glasgow
aww bless poor Derren I’m so sad to hear you’re not well darling, I hope you get to have a good rest & relax a little & get better quickly (((hugs)))
can’t wait to see you in Salford
take care darling
love & hugs
chantelle 😀
I had a great night in Glasgow on Friday night, the show was amazing ***SPOILER REMOVED***
Thank You
James
Interesting side effects. Too much of a good thing? You sound un-balanced.
Maybe that’s beneficial? Then you could become like me; un-hinged (in a good way).
Derren,
After your vacation, please come to NYC…
Derren i was at your show on thursday in glasgow and i must say i was dazzled and amazed and loved every monet of the show ! despite the heat of the kings theatre you carried on with the show so i thank you so much for that ! hope to see you again next year ! take a well deserved rest in italy and i think everyone who has been to your show would 110% agree with that you work so hard and it is much appreciated ! and cant wait to see more of your work/shows they are fantastic you are an inspiration !
Corey From Glasgow .
Please feel better soon! xo
I just came back from Italy. If you’re in Florence head for La Specola a museum of zoology and hman anatomy, it’s absolutely fascinating.
Dear Derren,
Thanks for letting us know that you’ve arrived safely back home.
In spite of your health condition and the awkward circumstances
you’ve achieved a remarkable success at the King’s Theatre.
Yes,indeed you are the King of Entertainer !
That was breath taking, amazing and delightful ingenious entertainment.
We’ve been given the privilege of having you in Glasgow.
I hope you’ll recharge and healing your magic powers in Italy.
Look forward to seeing you again in Edinburgh.
Patience must prevail I suppose.
Best regards and lots of love, xxx
Did you partake in any of the culture of Glasgow Derren?
A glass of Bucky at Nice and Sleazy’s or a gentle jog through Ibrox or Parkhead?
I’ve been away for too long now but I suppose it’s the same ol’ Glasgow – especially if your show came out on a Saturday night right on Elmbank Street.
I hope you enjoy your rest and come up with some more god ideas.

saw the show on Friday night, it was truly amazing… One question though, if you had the skills of derren brown, how easily would you lose your morals and end up a multi millionaire and be at the head of the biggest super power of the world??? A day? Me too!
We all love you on here Derren, take it easy and get some rest.
BTW, I believe there is an institution in Italy (Rome, i think) that makes some pretty astounding claims. They say that you can ‘live forever’ if you ‘believe’ in a historical figure. Well, i believe the guy existed, but they also claim that he was the offspring of a supernatural liaison between a winged figure who represented The Creator, and a virgin! Wow.
They also say that they can turn bread into flesh and they do this twice daily.
They also say that gay people will burn for an eternity of pain and suffering.
Need I say more?
Put on your investigating hat and check ’em out.
BTW Scott – I like the typo. ‘God ideas’ – he he he.
The show on Friday night was ASTOUNDING, I loved every second, and probably caused some minor damage to my brain trying to figure out how you did some of it. It was enthralling, entertaining and quite simply marvellous 😀
( “FRANK!!!” ) XD
Thank you for an amazing experience and a great night out(the heat and humidity aside),our only respite was as they opened the doors to let the smokers out, popping over to the Griffin for a round of liquid refreshment.I am eagerly anticipating your next wizard weeze.
all the best
Hi Derren was at the show on sat and yes was up in the almost unbearable heat in the gallery. Thanks for a great show and took the mind off the heat.
look forward to seeing you again in the future keep up all the hard work you do.
Enjoy your break and hope you feel more refreshed when you return.
It will be cold wet and windy in Carlisle. It always is! Have a wonderful respite and I hope to have the pleasure of a meet and greet in Carlisle. Take care.
Italy!!! Cool, spaghetti an’a meatballs, haha. I love the “found me a couple of fans” LOL. hope you feel better soon. x
Thanks for a great show at the weekend, I was in the unbelievable heat of the gallery attempting not to faint forwards and land 3 stories down at your feet! I would have to say though – ***SPOILER REMOVED*** Have a good holiday, you obviously work tremendously hard and we appreciate it x
Sorry, didn’t mean to include a spoiler, I’ll rephrase that and try again. I thought that one element of the show was unfair on the participant and went against what you have previously said about other people in your business who exploit people when they are in no position to make choices for themselves, in order that other people can laugh at them. Otherwise, a great show, thank you.
I was at the Friday show in Glasgow and despite the heat being an issue and being deaf in one ear due to a nasty infection, I had A WONDERFUL time! I’ve been waiting to see you live for a VERY long time and you surpassed ALL of my expectations! Thank you so much xXXx
i was at the Saturday show in Glasgow, this was the first time i have been to a show of yours and i loved every bit of it! even though i was in the upper circle roasting alive! Thanks so much for a superb, entertaining night !!! XXXXX
