The Great Buck Howard
I haven’t seen this film yet, but am looking forward to it. John Malkovich plays a famous mentalist who, judging from the trailer on the site, is based on The Amazing Kreskin. Kreskin, known to some in the UK but a huge name in Canada and the US, is a favourite mentalist of mine. Probably no mentalist has managed to create such an original and engaging persona, let alone a likeable one; he is so extraordinary to watch, and his choices so rich, bold and clever. If you enjoy the movie, or even if you don’t, there’s a great DVD set of his 1970’s Canadian series available on Amazon.Â

I remember Kreskin’s series way back in the early 70’s. I think I used to be able to just squeeze in watching it at lunchtime before running back to school.
I’ve only heard of Kreskin through stories of Penn Jillette. Penn really hates this guy because he must have, at some point, suggested that his powers were somehow real. Penn bought into this as a child and convinced his parents to spend money on some ‘home psychic kit’ Kreskin was selling. He later discovered, of course, that it was all just magic tricks and, as I say, doesn’t have a kind word to say about him.

kreskin was here in bernardsville a few years ago. he levitated a table at the haunted libary. i have a video of it. phun times. so now he’s Being John Malkovich, eh?
Saw it on a recent trip to LA, very enjoyable, rather funny, but doesn’t say much. Some great presentational techniques for mentalism and some beautifully simple but wonderful tricks. Good cast, well written, enjoyable but I wish it just said more or went further with the story.
Well, I like John Malkovich in most of his roles so far, so that’s another reason to watch the movie. Don’t have a clue who the mentalist Kreskin was/is, therefor he can’t be my favorite .. if I had had a favorite mentalist…. Your description sounds nice though .. ff kijken of het de lading dekt …
Lots of flying bunnies here … attempting to produce eggs .. Ofcourse I’d have hidden a few around here for the egg hunters but hey … I still did not succeed in getting them up here … a trick I need to work on …
Oh i´m already anticipating a movie one day like this based on a wicked psychological illusionist from the Uk…

Kreskin broke Penn Jillette’s heart (Penn of Penn and Teller), and, according to Teller in a recent show program, Penn still hates Kreskin.
I think Penn’s beef with Kreskin is that he wasn’t an honest liar…too much like Uri.
Obviously Derren and Penn have very different views of Kreskin.
(I’d love to read more about this from Derren’s perspective.)
I agree with Darren that the characther is soooooooooooo Kreskin. Malkovich really has him down!
Apparently, the movie is based on the experiences of writer-director Sean McGinly was a road manager for Kreskin.
Penn…does he really *hate* Kreskin, or was he just kidding??? Kreskin does not claim to be psychic or magic. I remember him as a kid on CTV, and he never said he was psychic.

I have the kreskin dvds, and love them to bits.Several of the shows, are from a series he made for tyne tees television. you can tell them, by the thick geordie accents. thats not accents as spoken by stupid newcastle residents by the way, but a dialect. which has absolutly nothing to do with Dr who.
( the rising cards/ tossed out deck clone of Kreskin’s really works by the way.. ive done it a couple of times, with huge sucess)
