Derren Brown wins Best Entertainment and Family Award
“Derren Brown has tonight collected the second Olivier Award of his career, winning for his mind-boggling West End hit Svengali in the Best Entertainment and Family Award category.
The entertainer and master of psychological trickery was first recognised by the most prestigious of theatre awards in 2006 for his second West End outing Something Wicked This Way Comes. Since then the television star has appeared on stage in shows Mind Reader – An Evening Of Wonders and Derren Brown – Enigma before returning with Svengali, arguably his darkest show to date, last summer.
When it was announced earlier this year that the show will return to the West End for a limited run this July, Brown spoke of his love of performing in the theatre, saying: “I enjoy the stage shows more than anything else. Live on stage is the best place for what I do: it’s unpredictable and the audience knows there’s no possibility of judicious editing.â€
Audiences were indeed baffled by the unbelievable tricks and wonders on show in Svengali, but also thoroughly entertained by Brown’s natural showmanship that had the audience not only shaking with fear but with laughter too.
The acclaimed production was co-written by Brown and long-term collaborators Iain Sharkley and Stephen Long, and directed by Polly Findlay.”

Absolutely fantastic news to Derren and all of the team concerned.
Can’t wait to see Svengali again, this time in Wolverhampton next month knowing that I’m watching an award winning show.
Once again, congratulations and keep up the amazing work you are all doing. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
A trully worthy winner of this award, a man whom has the abilty to entise and entrigue you no matter what your beliefs are. He certainly gets my vote as he has captured my soul my mind and heart on so many occasion, he deserves more then just an award he deserves to be kinghted. He is an truly oustanding performer. And any one lucky enough to meet him, be in his presence or be lucky enough to attend his shows should consider themselves very lucky. I adore you to bits Derren your tweets your shows bring so much joy to my life even on days I feel I just can’t smile. You certainly captivated my heart and soul. Well done on this award.
Fantastic show, wonderful man deserves more recognition than an award, UK need to do a walk of fame like Hollywood and the 1st person to be put on it should be Derren well done sir 🙂
Congratulations to everyone and I can’t wait to see the show again this year xx

Congratulations Derren! You deserve it. I’m totally not surprised. Cheers!
Congratulations to Derren and the entire team!
Congratulations dezza. I personally enjoyed Svengali lots when in Liverpool. I think the majority of the audience there didn’t get it though!
To make any man’s life feel great, a word of thanks goes a long way in comforting their soul. You’re a man who I know is in continual receival of thanks and for advice. To receive another prestigious award just proves all those people right. You’ve came a long way from you first graced my TV screen 10yr ago. I couldn’t believe how much you kept growing the shows and awe. It’s become a bit of an obsession but I’m currently doing my best to just appreciate what I’ve seen and hope that one day I find a better understanding of it all, and that I don’t seem like an obsessed twat but rather an admirer of what I’ve seen since the beginning. From the very first advert I saw, I seen the most intelligent man I know to be alive. Very well done D. Hope to afford another ticket for London venue. x
To the team as well.. You all make everything Derren does, fantastic as ever. Well done guy and girls. Make this winter another Derren winter. Best wishes. x
Wow. Congratulations to Derren and his whole team. Well deserved 🙂
Congrats to Derren and crew, particularly co-writer Iain Sharkey. Learning of his story on Behind the Mischief was truly inspiring. That’s one incredible career path to have taken, and I can’t help but to respect it thoroughly.
Well done son. You’ve made a happy man feel very old.
: ) Congratulations to all at Brown Towers and everyone ever involved with Svengali. (Seeing it in a few days)
Brilliant! Big congratulations Derren, you deserve it. Keep up the good work! Can’t wait to see you on tour again or a future TV show. Really happy you got this award!
Congrats Derren!
Huge congratulations – a worthy win. Saw the show in Cardiff, and it was great fun (and totally took me in, gah!!)
He is so amazing, fascinating shows definetly another deserved award! Well done!
Saw the 20/4 in Glasgow, outstanding yet again, audience was blown away. I feel sorry for younger guys trying to build a career as mentalists/psychological illusionists, not a snowball’s chance of a TV career as long as Derren’s around. Congratulations to all involved. What’s next!
