Last night – Oxford
Firstly and above all, apologies to those of you who wanted to come and say hello after the show. My few days off were beset by some non-porcine plague, in the way that bodies tend to sieze upon any quiet lull after an extended onslaught of sustained activity in order to punish the bearer severely for working so hard. I dragged myself to last night’s first night in Oxford, found I had to do an interview and photo-shoot for the Times, which I thought, like a ‘nana, was due to happen today, and was then amazed that the first half of the show went well and that I found a voice that seemed strong enough, given that I could barely speak a word during the day. In the second act it suffered, which is worrying: a few coughs and a dip in vocal energy may not matter much to that night’s audience, but without getting a chance to rest, the voice can just suddenly go, leaving us having to cancel a show or two as we did the other year.Â
So I had to skip signing, under sensible instruction from my company manager. Standing out in the cold talking and chatting is lethal for a damaged, suffering throat, so I hope any of you who were there can understand. A note was left on the door – if any of you have left anything for me to sign, I’ll see to them today, and you can come and grab them later on today – any time after 7.30 –  from the stage door. I doubt very much that I’ll be signing tonight either, I’m sorry. If you have books or things – even programmes if you turn up early – that you can drop round to stage door before the show, I’ll sign them straight after and leave them there for you to collect. But I’ll be running straight off for Lemsip and beddy-byes right after the show, so forgive me if I don’t get to scribble my moniker on programmes and tickets bought too close to start time.Â
Please – anyone leaving anything – remember to put a note in with your full name on!Â
Now, to cheer us all up, here are some videos of some of the crew at the afore-slagged Novotel in Wolverhampton, when the hour was late and we were all rather tired. Firstly, dancing to ‘Woman in Love’ which playing quietly on the in-ceiling speaker system (so turn up your volumes please), is our own lovely Jennie:
and then, never to be outdone (although he clearly is), is our own ‘handsome’ Iain. One for the ladeez:
I note that Iain’s head looks too big for his body in this film. Rest assured this is his normal appearance, and not a perspectival glitch of the camera’s lens. Hope to be better for Grimsby x
I agree with Liz, Echinacea is brilliant for bosting immune system. As someone who is often plagued with colds, coughs etc, i tried a course for 4 weeks in November and haven’t been ill since. I live in a postage stamp-sized flat and ordinarily get any ailment that my flatemate gets, but since taking Echinacea have managed to fend off any nasty bugs. I fully recommend! x
Hi… Thanks for the best nite ever… after being a fan for years this was my first live show… i flew over from Gibraltar just to see it! it was amazing… and im really sorry to hear you weren’t feeling 100%, but it was still incredible! thank you for not cancelling!!!! that truly was a kind act… and i think you should give urself a magnet for it! kinda sad i didnt get to meet you though… as i had to fly back home today… 🙁 ps. you look incredibly sexy in tails! i really was looking forward to meeting you and maybe getting something signed…. i guess ill have to wait till next tour! 🙁 keep up the amazing shows! you’re out of this world! thanks again!!!!

I think I am in love with Jennie….:-|
No so much Iain……..
Hasn’t Echinacea been proved to be LESS effective then a placebo?
I wish my mock dancing were as graceful as Jennie’s! I always end up looking more like Iain.
Ken- How do you get something to beless effective than a placebo? Say “By the way, this doesn’t work” before giving it to someone? : )
Saw you in Oxford tonight, fourth tour I’ve seen and this was by far the best one. Incredible stuff Derren, I can’t sleep, my head’s still spinning. Thank you for a fantastic evening again!
I now know I will never be cool enough to be Derrens friend 🙁
Sorry to hear you are poorly Derren. Get well soon lovely and take good care of yourself, better still get someone else to take good care of you.

Derren,
Saw you on the 12th at Oxford. I am glad you were able to carry on – you did sound poorly but it did not detract from your performance.
Really enjoyed myself – will definately be seeing you again. Now that might sound a bit sinister, but its not meant in that way. Honest.
Cheers,
Claire
loving the dancing…i sometimes i wish i was a big celebrity lke Derren; only celebs get away with dancing in hotel bars and getting away with it. I have actually been thrown out of a hotel bar for less… however i don’t spend a lot of time hanging about hotel bars!
sorry to hear Derren’s not feeling great…i hope good health returns soon!
please please please be fit for the final show in Glasgow, im rather excited about it! Although, if the worst comes to the worst and it’s cancelled, it’s a good excuse for a little weekend in London to catch a show during the West End run! 🙂
Happy dancing!

Great, just watched it at desk in the office and have a room full of people looking at me like some sort of nutter.
best bit of the hotel guy in Iain’s video waiting patiently for bed numbers without cracking a smile.
Cheers
Rob
Rebecca: There was a double blind test of Echinacea against a placebo and the results showed that the test subjects expressed feeling better MORE often using the placebo than Echinacea. Ergo Echinacea is LESS effective then a placebo. Simples!
Lolz.. You bunch of bloody nutters!!
It’s good to see you lot are having fun and it is’nt all just work.. 🙂

Talk about professional. Yes, Derren was obviously fightling a cold / flu thing last night in Oxford. But what a show! We flew in from Germany, and it was all we had hoped for. Come see it again if we could. Still trying to figure some of it out. Well, most of it, actually. Get well – stay well – keep going. Surprise us, we love it.
Cheers – Thomas
Loved the dancing videos. Jennie and Iain were entertaining and very ‘bendy’ in all the right places. I would like to see Coops dance next time please. I’m pretty sure he’s got some ‘good moves’. See what you mean about the hotel…..very plastic.
Was there last night. It was a FANTASTIC show, well done!
I was one of the few waiting outside the stage door afterwards. It was a pity you couldn’t come out. But I hope get better soon!
Wow. Jennie wasn’t doing that first time. So graceful. Not bad from Iain either! 🙂
Glad to hear you are feeling littel better already. It’s only time that do the trick.
See you in London!
That’s all very amusing and endearing, but thanks to the Iain video I had “More Than Words” in my head all day yesterday. Not worth it, man.
I came home today and had to explain to my roommate precisely why 90% of his video’s views came from this URL. I am not sure if he is amused or not, but he says he looks nothing like Bearded Dancing Guy and also is sitting right there in the living room, so I guess I will be forced to withdraw my accusations of roommate theft.
If you wanted to click on my name, you could irritate him even more. Just saying. No pressure. Just if you wanted to.
OK Iain, your head does not look big in the video!!
Thanx to Iain & Jennie for the photo on Friday night in Grimsby,
Tammy XX
HEY, THEY STOLE MY MOVES!
GROOVY!!!
