DAWKINS INTERVIEW
Here is a DVD from Richard Dawkins’ site which contains the uncut interview (clip below) that I and others carried out for his recent programme, ‘Enemies of Reason’. The actual show, and others, are available elsewhere from the site.
Sorry it’s been a while: I’ve been pretty unwell these last few days. Run down after too much work. But, huzzah, I get my week’s holiday next week.
Off for sleeps.
x
Richard Dawkins was at one point a respected man – more recently however he is being seen by many as a hypocrite for being as OTT about “god not existing” than many religions going OTT that “God DOES exist”- so he has turned into everything he said he hated.
I’ve only seen your part of the interview, I’ll have to catch the rest of the program at some point.
Get well soon 🙂
Feel better soon Derren xxxxxxxxxx and hugs
Wishing you well soon, enjoy the holidays…at least you can have your ills before your holiday begins.
You must take care of yourself mister!
Enjoy your one whole week of relaxation – it’s well deserved, I’m sure.
Looking forward to the next live DVD, books and hopefully *fingers crossed* I’ll get to see your new show in the summer (I’ll be going to London in the beginning of July)
Haven’t seen the Dawkins program, or your interview – should be interesting.
Get better soon, have a fab holiday and enjoy the X Factor final. x
Hope you feel better soon Derren. Enjoy your holiday.
x
Apparently, rubbing vicks ointment on the soles of your feet is good for minor ailments. Be careful not to slip on the parquet though. Get better soon x
That was a great programme… I’d love to see the whole interview.
Now, off to bed with you… you work far too hard! Have a relaxing holiday xx
Haha, I wish I’d get this much sympathy when I get ill. (:
Anyway get well soon.
Also
I read somewhere that you were writing another book & that it’d be out in time for Christmas? I’m guessing that it’ll now be out later than that? Can anyone point me in the direction of some kind of vaguely relevant information? ty. (:
just wanted getwell to stopfellingbad and say youfeelbetter happy holidays.
Would it be wrong to suggest a psychic healer?!?
Get well soon anyhow…
I really enjoyed Dawkins programme so thanks for the information.
Hope you feel better soon (so much sickness about at the moment);)
Enjoy your holiday.
The Enemies of Reason was an excellent documentary and highly recommended viewing for anyone who missed it. Seeing Derren’s interview on it prompted me to find out more about the man who I thought just did clever stuff on the tv. It is always good to come across people who stand up and articulate views that you share.
The uncut interviews are always interesting to watch. The best one I’ve seen is the one with Dawkins and Alistair McGrath (from The Root of all Evil? I believe). It’s probably on his site somewhere, it’s well worth watching.
Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the link! Sweet dreams.
The Enemies of Reason is a very good programme and I have just started to read – The Blind Watchmaker, Dawkin’s theory of evolution. Get well soon Derren, you are unluckly! I believe you were poorly in April this year. But then, if you do insist on travelling through London on a open top bus in the middle of WINTER. What did you expect would happen?
aww poor Derren so sorry to hear your not well my sweetie, I hope you get better very soon (((hugs)))
ooh you get a week off that’s great I hope you enjoy it lovely ; )
take care
xxx Chantelle ; )
ooh maybe you should stay in bed & get your man to do all the running around looking after you whilst you’re poorly
That’s what I’d do for you if I was your partner (((hugs)))
Sara, The Blind Watchmaker is a fantastic book, the first of his I read also. It’s not his theory of evolution though (of course it contains a great deal about the theory), the book you might have in mind is The Selfish Gene. If you like the subject you might want to read Evolution by Carl Zimmer, and possibly Darwin’s Dangerous Idea by Daniel C.Dennett, both brilliant books about the theory of evolution.
Single Serving Jack: Thank you. I’ve just finished The God Delusion and only just picked up The Blind Watchmaker and had plans to get The Selfish Gene and A Devil’s Chaplain which I think is his essays and other writings. Did you see his programme on Charles Darwin? I will check out Carl Zimmer and Daniel C.Dennett as well, thank you. I hope my small brain can follow the last two suggested or my single brain cell will electrically explode!
seen it, absolutely fascinating
get well soon DB, we need our fave mind-meddling magician back to top form 🙂
Sara: Yes, Dawkin’s series on Darwin was very good. Next year is the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and there is a lot of stuff going on to celebrate:

Oh and yes, do get well soon Derren. How about painting a caricature of Charles Darwin while you recuperate? Or Dawkins? Ok maybe not Dawkins 😉
SSJ – Derren’s already done one of Dawkins, and it’s very good. You’ll find it in the glossy pages in the middle of “Trick of the Mind”.
I’m a regular visitor to RichardDawkins.net, though I can’t post as the server has trouble recognising my e-mail and password!
TGD was a terrific read though. I’m considering trying out one of his other books, though not sure where to start.
A film about Darwin entitled ‘Creation’ will be out sometime during 2009 and stars the excellent Paul Bettany.
awww, finnaly a reason to drool all over you *sighs & shrugs in happiness* …very wet kisses and hugs 2u derrenn…ghehee…
No, seriously…i hope your well soon and enjoy the holidays!
Flapjack – thanks, yes I know about the Dawkins pic, I have a copy – I was just making a bit of a joke.
Regarding Dawkin’s books, The Blind Watchmaker is a good place to start, or Unweaving the Rainbow.
Thanks Jack – I’ve bookmarked your link!
By the way, please can everyone just stop writting about Derren’s Man Flu! Really…Seriously, really? I think he will recover! Of course, this would look bad, if the newspapers say something else tomorrow…but no, NO…I’m sure he’s ok, OK!
Thanks SSJ, didn’t pick up on the irony, bit slow today!
I’ll have to try one of those two books next.
Dawkins discussions .. for the time being I’ll pass on this one today .. not in the mood (I’ve been way too much up all day already about some X-mas package stuff (weird things here and a joke someone pulled on his staff which lead to me emailing the board UMCG etc etc .. enjoyed myself immensely in a way, but I was too tired for that stuff (2 nights in a row of 4 hours sleep is not enough I guess), I mean .. my chances on the flu are limited due to being vaccinated (that’s how clever people do it, brown ..) .. but I start to feel .. a bit weird .. can be the brown bugs here though ..
Hope you will feel better soon. No nurse team necessary? *grinning*
I see here about 31 who can serve all (well .. almost) your needs if wanted .. What? Scared? Why? *innocent wide open eyes* ..
Anyhow, I hope the bed time is not all bad all the time. Some people feel better in some areas when their body is sick (slightly feverish can trigger quite nice feelings at times .. ), but you probably are not one of those lucky ones .. And don’t forget to take your daily vitamins. Now that you are .. 37?
Just a quick hope you feel better Derren! Enjoy your week off – if 51-week-nonstop-tired Derren can produce such genius, I can only imagine what well-rested Derren can do.
Take care.
x
I haven’t seen the Dawkins dvd yet. Just curious, though — would he ever consider interviewing a female? (kind of odd that it’s all men)
ah now I see the reason behind this blog, its an excellent tool when milking sympathy from strangers! still hope your on the mend
Though I hope you realize, illness is god revenge! his son Santa died on a giant hot cross bun for your blaspheming arse

Just watched the interview with Richard Dawkins. I must say that he’s a hero of mine, and the interview was fascinating stuff. Look forward to seeing you in Reading this year – got tickets for your show. Hope you’re better now.
