20. That was amazing, I would never have believed that anyone could be programmed like that had I nnot seen it with my own eyes! I was fascinated that no one in the audience ran or tryed to help Stephen, we need a programme on that Derren and I would love to be part of it.

    Hypnosis is one of the subjects that are captivating, however this first program wasn’t that interesting (obviously in my personal opinion).

28. Just watched this and omg.. Scared the sh!t out of me .. It wasn’t so much the shooting but the fact that he had no recollection of his actions .
    Don’t for one min believe derren is the only person in the world that is capable of doing this !

    Anything is possible .. Self preservation did not exist in this guys head….scary
    On the flip side though …derren you can have whatever you what and get other people to do it for you and they would have no recollection of doing it…. Excellent

30. Oh wow Derren, thoroughly enjoyable hour of TV which I want to get back again & again.
    I loved watching the whole process of getting Chris through to achieving the actual assassination, really found it fascinating. And if I’m honest, a tad scary.

    Am annoyed with myself at being invited to the Stephen Fry ‘talk’ to which I didn’t attend. Maybe if I’d known what the whole thing was I may have made sure I’d been part of it! Haha….ah well, no matter…..

    Thank you once again for putting together a wonderfully enjoyable show and if anything has whetted my appetite even more for the ones to come. 🙂

31. Great show Derren I was seriously impressed. I thought it would be possible and you clearly proved that. It does raise a number of questions though, including how compliant does the subject have to be for this type of hypnosis to work and how much compliance makes the subject responsible for their actions.

    What worries me most about this experiment though is what impact will this have on the person who did it. We all like to feel confident that we are in control that fundementally were are good and to have that proven otherwise in such a shocking way could leave a very long last effect. I hope not, but if this has never been done before then surely only time well tell, which does not sound much of a certainty to me – was this experiment bordering on the irresponsible?

39. Brilliant as usual – doubt it’s a stooge as mentioned above. Really interested in why Sirhan Sirhan was mentioned as this open up a can of worms surely. Because of that, I think it’s real. Of course it’s primarily entertainment, but why I love derren et als work is that there is always an important message, point or philosophical note. Will be a sad day when he hangs his hat.
40. @ andy: I think it was more the handkerchief in the woman’s hair that he reacted to rather than the dress. There was also no ringtone (or instructions) in the final scene.
41. Already tweeted: As a Psychologist, watching Chris’s reaction 2 seeing himself ‘kill’ SF felt v uncomfortable, u r at least 1 foot in a v unethical place. You are either very good @ reconciling your inner turmoil about this or paid enough to not care, you have no idea what the long term impact might be & I wonder how/if this is even considered?
42. Wow! A year ago, after the ‘Hero at 30,000 feet’ I asked for a replication of the RFK assassination… And if I remember correctly, another to do with EMDR healing. A whole year later, I’m getting a text from a friend about the show. Bravo, maestro, bravo. I feel like I’m in ‘The Twilight Zone’.

    The internet has been incredible, from the posting of the classic mind-blowing Philip K. Dick like short story ‘The Yellow Pill’ (1958) by the distinguished Ellen Datlow on the reprint section of Sci-Fiction, and not to a replica of one of the three major assassinations of the ’60s.

43. I smell a rat. You’d think at least one person at that talk would have said “Oh, by the way, funny thing happened at the theatre tonight. Stephen Fry got shot three times in the chest, and then Derren Brown showed up.” Why hadn’t we heard about it before tonight?

    Also, if (and this is a very big if) such programming were possible, why aren’t more people doing it? If it’s within Channel 4’s resources, it’s surely within the power of any government, multinational corporation, and mafia syndicate on the face of the earth. And why aren’t more accused murderers using it as a defence?

    Then again, maybe I just killed someone while writing this post. Who’s to know? Either way, very good telly. Well done!
44. Derren mentioned MK Ultra. That was the exotic one, but I am more scared by Monarch Programming, That is based on trauma as the key to splitting off a conscious alternative sort of person. Even Mengele was implicated in that (Google “How tall was Mengele?” These spy types studied magicians and hypnotists and worse people for the tricks they revealed. Yet all this talk on assassins is for all the necessity of it wed in the past and Monarch Programming (a loose term for a big subject) seems to have left all of this in the stone age if you believe what you can read by googling “sneeze” and NSA…which is how I found this bit of the future.

46. I’m honestly a bit sceptical about this. Derren is clearly not a man without imagination. Surely if he possesses the sort of power of suggestion he states, as well as a high level of imagination, he’s wasting his amazing talents proving how amazing he is. At a guess there is some deception going on, possibly based on the audience and participant having a different idea of the intention of the questions at the end.
47. We really enjoyed the programme Derren. The whole “was it all real or was it fake” debate will now erupt and many hours of theories and discussions will take place….I just love it. That really is ‘the very best thing’ about your work Derren, everyone has a different view of what they saw (or didn’t see) and they are convinced they’re right. Some of my friends have already phoned to ask if I thought it was real or not, some believe some don’t lol Bless you for keeping us entertained xx

49. Great telly, but I have to remain sceptical.
    There are still some fundamental questions about the validity of hypnosis, and as others have said if Channel 4 can do this why haven’t governments?
    But if I were bothered by plot holes I’d have stopped watching Derren a while back. He’s a showman who makes great TV. Keep it up DB.
50. He didn’t seem very happy about it at the end but he did agree to take part in the show and everyone knows that this show can have a wicked twist.. well everyone who’s watched the previous ones and i dont see why you would volunteer if you hadn’t done your research!
