Belfast
Belfast was just wonderful, thank you any of you who came along and packed out the Waterfront Hall with astonishing noise and energy. The response from the house was astonishing, and seeing everyone leaping to their feet in such a huge open hall was really fantastic. Thank you.
We visited the Giant’s Causeway, which, though I’m sure it’s just obligatory school trip territory to the locals, was a lovely afternoon trip. I realised the image I had carried around in my head of the Causeway since primary school was quite, quite different from the real thing. We had lunch at the Bushmills Inn (the whole of Bushmills smells of its famous malt) and headed back for the show.
The shows were very good, but on the third night my voice suddenly became worryingly absent. Two late nights with friends, a change in weather and a long run of shows had taken their toll, and I had to perform the last night with a more controlled tone than normal. This is a huge worry when this happens: keeping the voice strong is always the priority. If it goes, we have to pull shows, which is terrible.
Therefore I was not able to go out for signing on the last night, and unfortunately this will have to be the case for the next few nights until my voice is back to normal. It’s straight back to the hotel and into bed, rest as much as possible and then not speaking during the day. Steam, water, honey and lemon fill my wordless days until the shows. So a thousand apologies to anyone hoping to catch me after the shows: I am whisked away quickly, so please don’t waste your time waiting at the stage door for now thinking I’m still in there.
Hopefully things will be back to normal after a few days. I’ve also had to cancel meetings and interviews until this period passes.
Dublin tonight was huge fun: we were only the third show to appear in the brand new Grand Canal Theatre. Its a fantastic place. From the stage you can here each of the 2160 people as if they were sat right around you. The Dublin audience is different from those of Belfast: rowdier, funnier and very present. They were huge fun and a well-placed shout from one audience member had me and the backstage crew cracking up. So thank you for tonight, Dubliners. Looking forward to the next two.
Apologies again for not being able to come out and sign afterwards. Will let you know how that goes.
Meanwhile I must try to enjoy Dublin in silence…
x
Awww poor sausage!! Just look after yourself….that’s the priority xxxxx
see you in Glasgow ๐
Hope your voice clears up and you feel better soon…
take care..
xx
I blame the Icelandic ash…weird how the voice goes just as the volcano erupts…..Glad you enjoyed us Dubs – we know how to have some craic. Get to the Guinness storehouse tomorrow – they say Guinness is good for your health!
Hope you’re feeling better soon Derren xxxxx
As a huge fan of yours derren, I was unbelievabley disappointed that by the time I got the money together the tickets had sold out, after seeing your other two (outstanding) shows I really wanted to go aswell. So Derren I ask you… Please return the little Shitter which we call Belfast so I may experience one of your shows live… I’m greatly dissapointed to have misses out on enigma…
GET WELL SOON LOVELY FRIEND!!
Lots of Love as always. Elizabeth XXXXXXXXXX
Great show tonight – thoroughly enjoyed it. Please though pass on my apologies to Coops and the backstage crew for ambushing them (from a respectful distance) to see if you were coming out to say hello – I hadn’t at that point seen the sign on the other door.
Hope the voice is soon back to rights.
Bob.
If I went and never got your sig. I would NEVER watch you on TV again.. HAHA OJ. Of course we all would even if we cared so much to say we never would. Anyways keep having a blast and mend that throat.
Aww fantastic show, still in disbelief that I ended up on stage. Thanks for coming out to see us on your first night in Belfast. Hope you recovered from your wee fall… could say “bet you didnt see that coming”… but no, that would be mean ๐ Seriously the show was so so well put together and your energy was fantastic. Great night!
Aww Derren, all us fans view your coming out to say ‘hello’ at the stage door as a privilege not a right. You’re always so giving with your time to those of us who do wait after that it’s nice to give a bit of that time back to you for once (if that makes sense).
Just look after yourself & that lovely voice of yours.
Take care

I was at the first night of the show in Belfast…and wow, it was absolutely amazing. I was the first person up on stage ๐ basically a dream come true xD
I was in complete awe for basically the entire show…had my mouth open more than closed!
It was such a good night, and I’m so glad I got to meet you afterwards ๐
Thankyou so much for being so frickin amazing, and if you asked anyone that i’ve been talking to in the past few days they’ll tell you i’ve not shut up about getting to go up on stage with DERREN BROWN!!!! ๐
P.S. You’re my hero.
P.P.S. Will you marry me?
Sounds like much fun is being had!! Glad you are enjoying the shows.
Hope you get better soon! bet everyones enjoyin the peace and quiet though ey ๐
xx
Thank you for an amazing evening in Belfast on Monday night. I keep remembering things from the show and laughing at inopportune moments.
Thanks for your thoughts on Belfast Derren. We really enjoyed having you here. Wish you could visit more often. I was at your last show at waterfront. You were great, crackly voice and all. Lol. You’ll always get a standing ovation here. X
I was at the Belfast show on Tuesday. It was AMAZING!!! One of my friends was on stage near the end, which was hilarious. Afterwards my friend and I waited until about 11:45 at the stage door until our taxi came and were a bit sad that we never got to meet you. I found out the next day that you came out a few minutes later and I was devastated. So on Wednesday night, I went to the Waterfront after your show and joined the crowd that was waiting. I felt nervous and awkward and then I got your tweet to my phone and before I knew it I was reading it out to a crowd of 20+ people without any nerves, even though I have terrible “stage fright” and can’t even do a speech in front of a class of friends. So thank you Derren, I think you’ve somehow contributed in curing my stage fright!!
Also, i can’t believe you stayed at the bushmills inn ๐ i used to go there every holiday with my family.
Bugger, I just typed a big comment to you and the site crashed! GRrrr! Anyhooo, it was a great show, ***SPOILER REMOVED***. Glad to see your voice is doing well, you seemed in great form even if you were working with some messers! Do come again and I am sick to the stomach to see how talented you are as an artist as well…..not fair having all that talent. See you on twitter. Nice one! Check out Johnny Foxes up the Dublin mountains, Mulligans bar off Tara street (proper old bar),
I had meant to say “Afterwards my friend and I waited until about 11:45 at the stage door when our taxi came and were a bit sad that we never got to meet you.” Not “until our taxi came”.
Also get better soon!! Keep your voice rested, I would hate for others to miss out on that amazing show!!
Hi Derren
I didn’t know you usually come out and sign and it is lovely of you to mention it to save those who did know but now I know I’m sad that I’ll be missing you. Could you sign silently? No pressure.
Sleep well and hope your voice recovers.
ScienceGallery (@sciencegallery) on Pearse Street is fun though I haven’t been yet to their current exhibition: Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef
BaldBarista on Aungier St in Avalon House best for coffee and Merrion Square or Iveagh gardens are quieter green oasis. IMMA in Kilmainham a very pleasant place to spend some time too.
I think I have never been more proud to be Irish on what was a truly fun filled evening! Thank you a thousand times over for one of the best nights out, and enjoy Dublin. I’ll be up till 4 in the morning trying to run everything through my brain……..you are truly the master!
Me thinks it’s time for that victorian rememdy of when perambulating without having to converse for one reason or another with the local popluace is to take some chalk and slate in order to communicate e.g. when requiring to speak with the ner ‘do ‘ wells or better still if you man servent can hold siad items for you rather than await around the corner in the handsome cab after your gentleman business has been completed.
Just wanted to say I thought the show tonight was absolutely fantastic, been a fan for years on tv and books but first time at live show -LOVED IT! the honey & lemon must be working, enjoy the next 2 nights.
Very enjoyable show tonight in Dublin – thanks for all the laughs and mystery.
Enjoy your time here!
….and yes…those were fun filled holidays…ahem…
And hope you feel better soon.
You should try strepsils they work really well…even though they taste mingy.
And sorry for so many comments i would have put them all in one but between thinking what i actually wanted to say and writing it out i forgot what i wanted to say……
I was at the Belfast show on the 12th (my 24th birthday) and thought it was fantastic, my only regret was I had to leave pretty quickly and didn’t get a chance to meet you afterwards. I loved the show, the jokes, your stewie impression, even the quirky music during the interval and generally soaked up the experience. I hope you come back to Belfast in the first run of your next tour because it just flew past too quickly.
Oh and you do a great northern irish accent! – a lot of people think they can do it and get it badly wrong, but yours was spot on – I hope it didn’t contribute to your voice going with our harsh tones.
Hope the voice gets better. Was hopin’ to catch you after Friday’s show but obviously the voice is a priority! Also – watch out for the big ash cloud if you’re flying back to England, all flights from Ireland cancelled! Looking forward to Friday night’s show here in Dublin!
Hi derren, i was at the show tonight – u were bloody fantastic! all i kept wondering all night was how do u remember everyones name when they are on stage! Remarkable!
BOB! Easily the funniest heckle I’ve encountered in all my years of going to gigs. Gloriously stupid/clever and perfectly timed.
The show tonight was possibly the best thing I’ve ever seen. Thanks Derren. And Andy.
ah come on now, u didnt really enjoy the causeway did ye? surely thats just something u have to say, as an irishman i think its a lot of bollox lol, be as handy looking at a pic of it in the pub. I’ve always wondered what tourists really think of it if they didnt have to be polite. guess ill never know
Hope you get better soon mate! Loved the Belfast show…utterly mesmerized!
Must. Pay. More. Attention!
Can’t believe I missed that you were in the Waterfront again, been to all the others and was impressed but only found out about this today, shit!
I am going to the show on saturday and was really hoping to meet Derren and ask him to sign my copy of tricks of the mind. But i understand this is for the greater good, the show must go on!!! Hope you feel better soon Derren and i am still looking forward to the show.
Saw Derren in the Grand Canal Theatre last night, this was my third time to see Derren in Dublin, the theatre is magnificent, all of the rows have excellant leg room which is brilliant and unrestricted view of the stage no matter where you are sitting, I was in the front row with my brother-in-law Alan and Derren chose him to assist in two parts of the show, the show is excellant, wish I could go again tonight. If it comes your way don’t miss it.
Noel
Myself and my brother was at the show last night in Dublin. Was amazing. Gutted you wernt able to sign authographs after the show but hope you feel better soon. Enjoy Dublin and come back realy really soon.
Your show was great Derren. Crackly voice and all. Glad you enjoyed Belfast. Wish you could come to Belfast more often. You’ll always get a standing ovation here! X
Get well soon Derren, preferably by the time you get to Woking next Saturday ๐ Been looking forward to it for months!
Derren,
The show in Dublin was incredible….absolutely loved all the routines…i’ve recently began conjouring thanks to your books and shows…like yourself i am now obsessed!! Just fantastic to watch a true master at the height of his craft. Thank you for a truly unforgettable evening – please continue to amaze and inspire with all your fantastic work.
Steve
‘From the stage you can hear each of the 2160 people as if they were sat right around you.’
That’s because they are, Derren. ๐
Hope your voice clears up x
Get better soon Derren! Glad you’re enjoying the Emerald Isle! Enjoy the silence aka Depeche Mode.
Get well soon. Glad you are enjoying the Emerald Isle, Derren. Enjoy the silence as Depeche Mode would sing…
Really sorry to read about your voice troubles. It must be a bit of a nightmare when you know you’ve got shows to do and you’re feeling like a poorly bunny. Get plenty of rest, look after yourself and I hope you feel better soon. Alternatively, you could consider doing your shows in sign language (only joking!) x
Hey Derren, hope you are feeling a little better. really looking forward to the show on Sat night. Mabey with all this volcanic ash you might be able to stay a little longer…….give you the chance to enjoy Dublin a bit more!!!!
Show was only fantastic last night, first time I had been in our sparkling new theatre down in Docklands and loved every minute!
enjoy the rest of your time in Dublin- take yourself off to the Jameson showhouse and drink some whiskey for that voice!
xx
First time seeing you live on Tuesday; I’ve been a fan ever since your first ‘Trick of the Mind’ special (quite attention grabbing when compared to Blaine and Paul Zennon’s efforts around that time- not that they’re bad but this was something unique). I’ve always been a fan of magic but I’m one of those irritating people who like to de-construct the mechanics of every trick I see despite not having the skill to perform them myself. Rest assured, however, I am dumbfounded by every last one of your routines; this is both rare and irritating. I know a magician who went on Monday night who told me he can’t even work out how you managed some pieces ***SPOILER REMOVED***.
Anyway; it was an incredibly entertaining evening; thank you.
Never been to a show – but they always sound amazing! Next year I’ll come! Would fifteen year olds be alowwed on stage? Well, I don’t even know if I’m going to a show next year- but heck, I want to go!
Get well soon.
x
I was at the last night of Belfast and you were absolutely brilliant, poorly voice and all. Every tour I think you cannot possibly top the last one, but yet again you proved me wrong, it was outstanding. I was slightly disappointed to miss out on my birthday hug after the show, but your health and wellbeing are of the greatest importance and I think everybody understands that. I hope the voice is picking up and that you will be able to perform with as much gusto as you desire at the rest of your shows.
I think I bruised the palms of my hands from clapping so hard =) Be sure to come back again, we love you in Norn Iron!!
Howdea Derren,
Sorry for the well timed heckle during the show, I hope it didnt put you off. I got the giggles of inspiration just at that moment.
My girlfriend (Noelle) and I, both really enjoyed the show. The entire production was world class. I dont know how you/production team do it. It doesnt really matter. We were entertained.
Kind Rgds,
Colum (AKA BOB)
Get well soon ๐
Come to the Isle of Man!! We all luv u, i don’t kno anyone who doesn’t luv watchin ure shows on TV, especially the one where u stuck people to their seats, that was the most awesome thing EVER! and yea i did get stuck, so much fun.
p.s Your a genius so even with half a voice ure still gonna b awesome.
Hope you’re feeling better soon Derren and thanks for a fab show on Wed night! Hope you enjoyed the causeway, I love it even though I’ve been about 20 times, although it’s a lot more impressive when you’re five and the rocks seem huge as you’re trying to climb them!
