Derren Brown Night ch4 – 8 Jan 2011
Thank you all for your lovely comments and emails, they are so nice – the team are answering as many as possible. We’ve had literally hundreds of people who didn’t realise that Derren was also a talented portrait painter. For those of you who want to see his work head on over to the Derren Brown Art Site here.
Tickets for the new live show Svengali are still available here (click the venue name to link to sales point) but they’re going rather fast and many venues are now sold out. Otherwise feel free to leave your comments below and thank you all for watching.
Derren, why do you always go on tour when i’m not in the country?? Any chance of doing a Canadian tour and freaking out all the moose folk?? thanks for being a true inspiration Derren. And a dashing scamp at that!
Really enjoyed the whole lot, especially the documentary – very brave of you to ‘expose yourself’ to the nation! It was particularly lovely to see Matt again, no matter how many times I watch the ending of ‘Hero’ it always makes me well up. Super job Derren π
Great show…specially your old dorm room. Its fun to share in trips down the old memory lane.
Hey Derren
I would like to thank you for your work which is utterly fantastic and entertaining i am hoping to see you live at some point and hope there is alot more to come. I beleive you to be one of the greatest magicians of modern times. I think that your blend of magic, psychology and the power of suggestion (to name a few) are truely what sets you apart and takes you to a whole new level entertainment. I am a massive fan of your work and look forward to seeing you again. John
Loved the documentary, thank you so much Derren for letting so much of you (so to speak). I voted for The Heist so I was very happy that the fans picked it to be shown again.
Fantastic night! Loved the doc. But way too short! Why was the ten minute beard soaping sequence omitted? Assume will be reinstated for DVD – along with the full eggs benedict comedy routine.
Cute parents. Especially nice to see them after reading CoaC. That underground swimming pool was astonishing. (Must be weird being the guy in Derren’s historic original digs at uni. THE ORIGINAL BED. THE ORIGINAL CHAIR. THE STAINS…)
I was hoping Rasputin would do the cute stand-on-one-leg-and-stretch-a-wing thing that parrots do. On the other hand, my partner was hoping he’d poo into the eggs benedict. It takes all sorts.
Here’s to the next DECADE OF DERREN!
(Don’t get any silly ideas about buggering off to the States.)
xx
Hugs
Very entertaining and always interesting, good show old chap π
Thank you for a wonderful evening…just loved the documentary.
It was so good to see Γ’β¬ΛEnigmaΓ’β¬β’ again… brought back some lovely memories….you are the best xx
Amazing! I saw Enigma live and seeing it again just enhanced the experiance
However i happen to be one of these people who sit through the entire thing and work it out (I got Choose the Confetti when i entered the theatre) So i spent all evening trying to work out what message you were sending during the ad-break and i am totally confused….what am i meant to be remembering?!
Oh dear, once again you have left me stunned and amazed!!
Loved the show, something quite sexy about Derren.
Great show, couldn’t believe the outcome of the subliminal message – I was desperate for the loo!
Cannot believe you had me unconciously holding my wee all night, when you said that i could go freely at the end a sudden realisation that i really needed the toilet rushed over me.
Amazing night, congratulation on 10 years.
Thanks
What a wonderful evening of absolute sheer magic. π
The documentary was a real treat. Loved seeing your home etc, & plus I found a lot of it quite moving, especially when delving into your school past. Made me reminisce about my own schooldays along with you.
I was more than happy The Heist won. I voted for a few as I couldn’t decide, so I spread my bets as it were!
And as for Enigma…completely & utterly jaw-droppingly good. I saw the show live a few times, and while I feel that anything you see live does lose an element of atmosphere when viewed on your TV screen, it doesn’t lose any of the sheer wonder of the spectacle itself. And that spectacle was a show we all saw called Enigma.
Congratulations on your decade with Channel 4, Derren. You’re the best.
Hugs, LC x
Were there any tricks being played during the screening tonight or was Derren having a laugh?
was hoping not to get caught in your subliminal messages… i picked the needle…. but you’re right i didnt wee until it was over…. despite two cups of tea and a dr. pepper ….
Wow – what a night! I feel totally spoilt to have enjoyed three hours of Derren this evening! No matter how many times I watch your shows, you never cease to amaze me! You are a living legend and utter genius! Congratulations to you and your hardworking team for producing 10 years of exceptionally entertaining masterpieces! I look forward to the Svengali tour and cannot wait to discover what new and extraordinary tricks you have in store! Long may your career continue – you deserve every success.
Really enjoyed the documentary tonight. It was such a shame i was unable to meet you when you revisited the restaurant. We’d love for you to come down and reminice some more and meet some of the old staff. I saw your show in Edinburgh last year, Enigma. Totally mindboggling!.. I think your Art is fantastic, and by the sounds of it so does the rest of the population! Great DB night!, loved every second! Tonight was the first time i watched The Hiest..and WOW! That blew me away! I’d be so open to taking part, but very freeked out! I don’t know how they stayed together in one piece after that was great! π Cant wait to see your next show! say when are you performing back in bristol?
..and remember ….
Great documentary. Anyone know what the uplifting trance music was in the second half? I know the track as Nakthi by SoundLift but this one was done in a classical style I’d not heard before.
Would I be able to steal a certain bird from Derren? If not, maybe some of the many dead things. Haha.
(In short, I like your place – people think I’m mad for my live snake and the beginning of a dead-thing-rug collection).
Hey Derren, well done on the show last night, it was amazing.
After watching Enigma, I’m so desperate to come and see Svengali but all the tickets are pretty much sold out and in places I can’t easily get to! Please Please Please come to London and do some shows!!
Much Love,
Josephine xx

I think you are a fantastic showman and brilliant magician but I can’t tell whether you believe in things like eg. ‘chi energy’ or not. I do and wish you wouldn’t decry it as I don’t think that is good for people. I can’t help thinking that is all part of retaining your mystery and maybe you do believe in it really???? Would love to know but shouldn’t think I ever will….pity…..you could be so good for people with your talents.
Very much enjoyed your documentary last night, a smile came to my face when you showed us inside the restaurant that you once performed in and I was instantly reminded of your latest book. I recently visited my old school and was amazed to see how it had changed.
Loving your work as always Derren,
Matt
I’m thinking of becoming Derren’s official stalker. What a man. haha.
The documentary was super! Thank you for gracing us with your lovely smile π Me and my boyfriend can’t wait to see the Svengali tour! See you in Sheffield!! π x x x
I had the most amazing dream about you last night Derren. I wont go into detail on here but for the record you were an ass, but in a provocatively hot way that I kinda liked, then you left me with some numbers then buggered off. I remain intrigued by it. Thanks, made my week far more interesting. Hope you enjoyed your holiday xxx
Derren, thought behind the mischief was great so thanks for that! Interesting what you said about the lottery explanation show… guess too much publicity can be a bad thing. 30,000 ft was much better!
Hello Derren,
I was visiting a mate in Dublin a few months ago and he had a copy of your book. I read the autobiographical part one morning and as a result ended up reading Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion. So thanks for the recommendation.
Didn’t really know much about you beyond that until I stumbled upon your ‘night’ on C4 last night. Must say I’m always really impressed watching somebody do something they love well and enthusiastically. And boy do you do what you do well. The Heist was amazing and hilarious and Enigma was also terrific. The trick with the curtained off chamber, can’t remember what you called it, Mental Tent? π was astonishing. Great Stewie Griffin impression too!
Regards,
Anthony Wall McManus.
Just WOW! I loved Derren Night and I knew that I would! I am fascinated by everything he does π The documentary was wonderfully lovely just like Derren and I felt that ‘melancholy’ that he felt when he was at his old school π I know what he means by bittersweet- aww beautifully done :’)…
Then of course ‘The Heist’ was fantastic even though I’ve seen it loads of times π and obviously I watched Enigma again and will be buying the box set π Also Derren’s links were hilarious ;D
146 days till I see Svengali in Bournemouth on the last night of his tour! Hope he’s not too tired π I hope I can meet him then as he is such a lovely and charming man- as last night showed so wonderfully :’)…
I’d really love to apply for a show, will details of any new shows be posted on here? π thanks xxxx
You must look back and think i did it! lol ive been watching you since i remember and everytime you still amaze me im trying learn how you do what you do and nlp but its so complicated i dont even know where to start lol, for you to learn all this info and mould it into your own style takes some work your amazing derren ! hope i meet you on your tour!
Last night was brilliant. Loved the documentary. Rasputin clearly stole the show.
+ was so happy that The Heist was shown – my favourite special by far.
Can’t wait for Svengali in April. =]
What was the flash at the end of the Heist about?! I’m scared XD
Thanks so much for showing us what it’s like ‘Behind The Mischief’ (haha.)
It was really intresting and I’m a HUGE fan of Stephen Merchant, so it’s cool to know you’re friends with him
π
Mucxh love,x
Fantastic evening enjoying your brand of entertainment. Thoroughly enjoyed. Have you any further book signing planned?
Hey Derren,
I loved the documentary. The taxidermy was great…how’s the bird going I gave you some years ago? Didn’t spot it anywhere (and I paid close attention) π
Loved the whole evening! Hope to come and see your new show (when it plays in Londen)
XXX Claudia
Amazing,i watched it yesterday on channel for till 12pm.he’s a genius
Hi Derren !
Loved the show it was very fun and interesting.
I hope to see one of your live shows in the future.
I live in Sweden so itΓΒ΄s not so easy to go and see your show but i have been at your Swedish friends show π Henrik Fexeus.
I can see where he got his inspiration from π
TC !
Words cannot explain the work of Derren Brown.
And one night is definately not enough! There needs to be more!
I wish every night was Derren Brown night π
You have many talents, Derren! Keep up the good work!
We really enjoyed the documentary. It was great giving others a chance to see the lovely man we met in June. It was also nice to hear from Iain. Get him on Twitter – as a Creative Writing graduate myself, it would be great to chat with him.
Good luck with the new tour.
All the best,
Ryan.
@Alex Roberts Wow! Someone else noticed! My mum and sister both missed it, I thought I was going mad!
Just watched the Derren Brown night on C4….absolutely amazing…great to see Derren’s home life and that he is as charming and charismatic as he is on stage…Derren, you truly are incredible and I wish you all the best with your work in the future…I still think the best is yet to come!! I’m a huge fan and cannot wait for your next big show!!
Love, Laura π
p.s. when are you coming to Ireland?? Your fans here are feeling terribly rejected..
I loved the show! π Your home, rocks! I would love to have mine like that! woop woop! Can’t wait to see the live tour when your back in Bristol! π
A brilliant evening! I loved the documentary. I really enjoyed seeing your apartment and some of the places from your past. Your parrot Rasputin is a little darling, but it was a bit weird seeing him on the stuffed macaw’s head! It was also great to see Enigma again and needless to say I still don’t know how some of the illusions were done. I’m currently reading Confessions of a Conjuror and I’m looking forward to seeing your Svengali show when it comes out. Hopefully Messiah will be repeated at some point.
Thanks for all your work, Derren, and long may it continue. You are an exceptionally gifted and talented man.
I love Derren Brown and i just wondered does this book teach you to make people sleep? xx
Nice evening of viewing! Also very nice to see the real Derren, both are very funny π
will derren be comin back to do a live show in dublin??? i went to see enigma and it was amazing
I missed the end of the Derren Brown night – can someone please tell me what the subliminal messages were he was talking about at the end and before every show? I saw up to the beginning of Enigma …
Please let me know – can’t find it anywhere online!
really enjoyed the evenings viewings, not many things in life are a surprise but I love not being able to work out just how Derren does it. Its great to also hear (and my daughter was inspired – shes 10) when Derren said that it was the bullies who went on to have boring jobs and its the others who get to do the interesting jobs. Was a treat to see a bit of the personal side to a very private, clever guy too. Am in the process of trying to book tickets for forthcoming tour, really hope to be able to go, pity my daughter is too young to go. Keep up the fun and mystery xxx
Watched the show and the documentary via Youtube here in the USA. Fantastic. ENIGMA was a very clever show and I truly enjoyed learning more about Derren, Andy, Anthony, et al and their collaboration on the TV and stage shows. Bravo!
4od have all Derren’s TV shows available to watch online. Can’t wait to see what else is coming up & hopefully I can get my hands on a ticket for the 2011 tour!
