Derren Brown Special: Hero at 30,000 Feet
Derren Brown, the acclaimed psychological illusionist, returns to Channel 4 for an amazing 70 minute special on Wednesday 8th September at 10pm.
Hero at 30,000 Feet takes an ‘average Joe’ on an extraordinary psychological journey which will culminate with him facing a life-changing decision of whether to take control of a Boeing 737 packed with passengers, which he believes is about to fall out of the sky.
Viewers will also witness the extraordinary personal challenges the subject has already been through with Derren in the run up to this event, as he becomes empowered by life-skills that transform his unconfident character.
Derren Brown says: “I hope it’s a show that people take something from. We easily let life pass us by, and ultimately this is about engaging with life and understanding that it is the choices we make right now that define us, not what we’ve done in the past.
“One unwitting volunteer gets to have a deep understanding of this, and for him to experience real and lasting change, I have to push him to the extreme.”
A master showman, Derren describes Hero at 30,000 Feet as his ‘favourite and most ambitious TV project to date’ and promises to have the nation glued to their seats as the drama unfolds in his latest Channel 4 special.
It follows the success of previous television specials such as Russian Roulette, Séance, The Heist and The Events – a series of four 1 hour specials which included How To Win The Lottery and How To Take Down A Casino.
His latest feat will see Derren using his powers to make positive, lasting change to someone’s life and has involved months of planning and secret filming.
He says: “The show was born from a desire to do something edifying. The experience of doing it has been truly extraordinary: genuinely changing someone’s life in such a good way has left us all on cloud 9 ourselves.”
In modern days yes a plain can land on auto-pilot but autopilot landings are still not always used as many pilots prefer the hands on experience By doing what they have done here they have genrated the worst posible senorio and one that is no longer allowed due to civil avation regulations. hence the use of a simulator in this program. I think this has the potential to make your eyes wide open to the reality of what you can do with your life. I think this will have changed this mans life and he will live a better life for it.

evil genius strikes again. most exciting tv ive seen ever??! i cant believe the stuff you get away with! its brill and full props to channel 4 for giving you a platform.
freaky that you can get someone up out of bed like that and program them…
i loved the Donnie Darko ref down to the script but my god did i sympathise with his reactions during the flight.. i am exaclty like him on planes – alot worse though usually drugged up to the eyeballs with tamazepam and gin 🙂
Fantastic really 🙂
I dont know what else to type, but Derren is just fascinating
x
Darren brown is a marvel the ability to misdirect and perform the pyscological illustions he prefors is finminal
I wish i new how he does it.
Why is this nt on 4od ? I was nightshift last night and missed it, my wife was sayig it was brilliant.
One thing is bugging me about this unfortunately, and its this. when the plane took off it was daylight with a short flight prepared, however after a while and the pilot was taken ill (still in daylight) the hero took over in darkness and landed the plane. anyone else notice this or did Derren hypnotize me as well?
PS I think what this man does generally is mind boggling but I cant quite get last nights show,
@Ravingbonkers I think they did that because in daylight, it would be too obvious that it was a simulation. The graphics on those things aren’t photo-realistic.
If you read Derren’s blog, he mentions there is so much more to the story that couldn’t be fit into the show. You have to remember that some time must have passed between being in the real aeroplane and being transferred to the simulator Ravingbonkers.
Thanks for your replies, I think its the whole daylight to nighttime thing that is not sitting true, anyway Derren is a master of weird science and his shows are way out the league of the normal dribble we are used to watching. Genius
Just watched this and found it really inspiring. Anyone know if any more DB shows are going to be aired any time soon?
Great stuff! love it!
