Derren Goes Cruising
Just returned from a wonderful few days aboard P&O’s Aurora, along with Mr Coops and Iain. I’m guessing many of you won’t have ever booked a cruise, or imagine it might be something to do in retirement, but I urge you to reconsider. The atmosphere is immediately, staggeringly friendly, and waking up every morning in a different port is just wonderful. Plus, if you like a bit of solitude, there’s nothing like sitting on your balcony with a great book, overlooking the vast expanse of endless ocean. Just bliss – and that’s without even leaving the ship. I did 3 shows in a beautifully equipped theatre, an interview/Q&A which was much much fun. And met some really lovely passengers, most of them seasoned cruisers.
A big hello, ahoy, and thank you to anyone reading this who was aboard – it was a real pleasure. We’ll be aiming to do it again, and bringing Jennie next time. So if you catch her in the Masquerades discotheque, perhaps you can persuade her to do that dance.
A lovely week. Thank you to all involved for looking after us so well. x
Hi derren, glad to hear you had a great cruise, hope you had a nicer experience then i did when i went on one of those years ago lol, i was crossing to go to germany and it was bad weather all the way, waves were coming up higher than the ship, so what do i decide to do, i go out on deck to the back of the ship to get some air, so i’m out there thinking a drop of rain wont hurt, then the ship hits another wave and whooosh!!! i’m soaked head to foot, needless to say i decided i didn’t want anymore air lol, as long as that didn’t happen to you or the ship didn’t hit an iceberg then i’m guessing you had a lovely time, nice picture by the way, was that the captain?, he’s always your best friend when your on one of those lol.
The Aurora is a beautiful vessel, i have passed her many times down in Southampton, but have yet to sail on her. Looks like you had awesome fun though Derren, good to see your over ya sea sickness.
I love ships, liners actually anything that goes on water is in favour with me. I studied the RMS Titanic for 13 years with a passion and only now have i been able to realise a dream since i’m now working and can afford it,….next November i set sail from New York to Southampton on board the Queen Mary 2, a ship of elegance and of true Cunard workings…i’m getting myself as close as humanly and historically possible to what the Titanic may have been like. Liners are beautiful creations and i’d urge everyone to give a cruise a go….it’s something to experience at least once in your life.
Definately not for me. I got sea sick going across to France (there was quite a bad storm going on at the time though). Not even the thought of a Derren Brown Cruise will get me cruising! Hate boats.
G’day Derren and co,
Looks like you had a great time on the cruise. It’s a pretty unforgettable experience, hey! No hotel experience can ever compare…unless, y’know, you’re in Dubai.
Some of us get Tom Jones tribute acts (I know my cruise did), some of us get Derren Brown. You win some, you lose some.
Aussies are still hanging out for a visit… and the handover of Tim Minchin if you please. If he’s not back in Melbourne for the Comedy Festival next year I will be highly suspiscious that “magic boy” had something to do with it.
– Suspicious? we totally admit we’ve nicked him. And no you can’t have him back. Long gone are the days when England will turn up and nick your country – we just steal all your talent instead now. – Phillis
Such an unlikely thing to do, but it’s always the people that make anything work out well. Always fancied a short cruise round the Nordic countries instead of a sunny jobby.
Hey Derren!
Glad you had a great trip.
By the sounds of it you got to have a bit of well deserved relaxation time also.
The show last night was very impressive too, although anything less just wouldn’t be Derren now would it 😉
Hope you and the guys are all well.
Pax, amor et concordia.

So glad you all enjoyed your mini cruise and I think you’ve got a point with the ‘when we retire’ thing, maybe we will give it a go, it sounds lovely.
Just loved this week’s ‘Event’. Sadly, I didn’t draw circles but I was hugely impressed with the newspaper adverts…very clever. The light bulb trick was amazing and the expression on your face when you were waiting for the remote viewing investigator to finish his ‘drawings’ was priceless lol Brilliant finale and now I’m dying to see this week’s event…. sounds intriguing.
I went on my first cruise in December 2008. I’m already fully paid on my next trip in 2010. There was no Derren Brown on board, that would have been awesome! There were, however, $2 bahama mamas. And they let me dress like a pirate ( I thought it appropriate for the Caribbean )… except when ashore. Derren, did you do anything like dolphin encounters or swimming with the rays? Fun stuff
I reckon it was a Pride of Bilbao mini booze cruise really you big chav lol
x
I reckon it was a mini booze cruise on board the pride of bilbao really lol
Was a pleasure to meet you Derren, Iain and Coops. You are some of the nicest people I have met and made my lone holiday that much better. Hope to see you onboard again in the future. All the best, Rina x

A great cruise and the fantastic shows on board were the icing on the cake! ….. we went in twice and was even more confused the second time!!…. will enjoy the book.
I too have just returned from the Aurora cruise and I share everyone elses comments who were on board, Derren Brown was fantastic and such a nice guy too! Was really nice to meet you if you read this it made the holiday for me! Hope to see you at one of your shows next year. xxx
haha sooooo many people have the wrong impression of a cruise, im 22 and just come off my 2nd cruise 3 weeks ago, believe me when i say its life changing!!!!!!!!!!! already booked up for another next year 😀 .i guarentee it will blow you all away.
@magnus.
I agree. Did I hear DB say that the finale was filmed three weeks ago? I could swear I have been invited to go to the Science Museum and take part more recently than that. Anyway, how could they solicit text entries on a recorded show without at least having DB on hand at the end to take them into account? Even assuming that’s just me missing something, how many text entries came in after the reveal – or at least after DB had said that concentric circles looked like a good candidate? The fact that this series is full of holes doesn’t chime with what we know of the man. As a long-term fan, I live in hope that the last one will be more than just busting a casino and winning someone a lot of money (unless it’s me, in which case it’s an excellent idea).
Defiantly gonna book myself a Derren Brown cruise 😀 Just hope I won’t get seasick lol 😛
I’m going on an Egyptian cruise next year, up the River Nile. Sooo excited, can’t wait!!! (And yeah, a lot of people do have the wrong impression that cruises are for old dears recently in retirement. I’m 16.) Glad to hear you had a good time Derren, but if you are planning on going on another cruise, please, PLEASE don’t do THIS again! > http://img59.yfrog.com/i/zn2m.jpg/
Andy Clark – Derren and Karaoke is two words I would never expect to see in the same sentence!!!
Miss M – Nah, you ain’t having Tim Minchin back… I saw him in York last week and he was FABULOUS… I’m afraid I am no longer solely stalking Derren now! *lol*
xx
Unfortunately im back on dry land now too…..
Thanks for a brilliant first cruise… didnt think i would ever go on one… and Mr Coops and Iain, you guys were fab too!

Ahoy there Derren! It was such an honour to meet you on the cruise. Like you, it was our first cruise and we only booked it because of you being on board but we’ll definitely be going again. We really enjoyed your show along with your interview, I especially enjoyed you talking about your love of parrots as we have an african grey ourselves. I really hope you’ll do another of these cruises, we’ll definitely be there if you do! Thanks so much for doing the Stewie impression for us when you signed our books, you’re amazing at it!
Who’s Jennie? Why wasn’t I informed?
– Jennie is part of the Enigma crew, she is also the most beautiful woman in the world and is so lovely small children weep tears of happiness when she smiles. And she looks after Derren’s goatee devices. – Phillis
wow wish i had been there!
that would really make it a hoilday to remember!!
x
We went on a caribean cruise for our honeymoon was fantastic!!!!!!!! cant wait to go on another 1. glad you enjoyed it
Just got home after the cruise. Obviously a large proportion of passengers chose the cruise because of your presence, I know we did. Great show and interview and I too would like to show my appreciation for the time you spent signing books for us. My one regret is you spoke to my partner briefly while I was off taking some pictures and just loves to remind me that I missed you by a few seconds. I hope P&O invite you back soon ‘cos we would love to do it all over again. Many many thanks.
I love cruises, best holidays by far I recon.
Last I went on was the Ventura and was brilliant! They have an excellent theatre group who do some great musicals and acrobatics as well as a Marco Pierre White resturant. You wake up in a new country every morning, its great ! (as long as you dont get sea sick)
well next time you need a freeloading entourage derren let us know. though jane macdonald put me off the thought of cruise ships
How would one find out about such a cruise??? I’m so jealous I missed this, sounds like it was AMAZING!!! x
Looking forward to the casino events this Friday – Derren, you’re an absolute legend!
Hi Derren, The show was amazing and you finally changed my husband from a pessimist to an optimist. I must say you are really gorgeous close up, You have beautiful eyes and skin. You were the icing on the cake for this cruise which was brilliant. Only sorry we didn’t pick up our photo from photoshop but in a bit of a hurry the morning of departure. Enjoyed the chat so also. You are awsome!!!xxx
– That’s called “make-up” Maureen 😉 – Phillis
Im going on Oasis of the seas – fly to Orlando stay there drive to Miami and then cruise round the carribean- Hope you on that one Derren
Hi Derren
Just wanted to say how fantastic you were on board Aurora which was my 40th birthday treat.
The cruise was amazing and we only booked it to see you and it has given us a great introduction to crusing.
We really enjoyed the Q&A session and thanks for signing my book at the end of the last show. Was hoping to see you in the Crow’s Nest. Was your cabin at the back of Cafe Bordeaux or was that a private dining area!
Saw Friday night’s show and a little confused at the ending but guess as ever the illusionist that it’s you with the cheque in disguise!
Look forward to seeing you again soon!
Jon & Karen Lido deck
Hi Derron we were on that cruise with you our first p&o cruise fantastic i loved every minute of it, the weather was an added bonus and seeing you on the Friday was great even though you picked on my husband about spending less than the £50 on shoes and shirt, best bit was he did not want to sit in the front in case you picked on him, i told him he would be ok, oh how wrong i was. only sad bit was we did not make it back in time to get you to sign our book we bought while on ship, thank you for helping make a great cruise better
I am sure it’ s fantastic!
